This year, to ensure all loan hats are returned, we have purchased new very distinctive orange hats which have been identified with class room numbers. Each class has been allocated 3 hats and teachers will monitor their use. Should a student persistently require a loan hat then teachers will make contact with parents. It important that all students and parents are aware that teachers will allocate loan hats on a first come first serve basis and that those unable to secure a loan hat will be unable to play outside and as such will be sent to the office. For this reason students should ensure they always have their own school hat. HOMEWORK Parents will soon receive a school policy on Homework that has been developed after considerable research and discussion by staff. The policy acknowledges that children need time after school for extra-curricular activities, for relaxation and for family time and that teachers will not set homework for homework’s sake. A key statement about the importance of regular physical activity will be included in the policy as will a statement advising parents, who have gained approval for their child/ren go on a vacation during the school term, that teachers will not provide curriculum based work for absences of this type and that a travel diary will be the only expectation. In summary, the school expectations are:

Regular reading and numeracy practice. Completion of student work unfinished during assigned class time. Participation in research or information gathering to support classroom learning program. Involvement in physical activities.

Each teacher will provide further specific details about how their homework will be structured to support this whole school perspective. SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION FOR PARENT REPRESENTATIVES For 2017 we will be electing two new parent representatives. Information will go home with the Newsletter Notes today inviting interested parents to nominate for a position. The timeline for the selection process will be as follows: 1. Week 1 – Tuesday 1st February: Expressions of Interest sent to all families with details of the role and

purpose of School Board. Interested parents or community members return nominations by Friday 10th February.

2. Week 3 Monday 13th February: Nominees for positions identified on voting sheets and forwarded to all parents, via students, for their consideration and return by Week 4 Friday 24th February.

4. Week 5 Tuesday 28th February: Communication of 2017 School Board members to community via newsletter.

CANTEEN NEWS Welcome back for 2017. I hope you all enjoyed the festive season and break from school. The canteen will be re-opening on Monday 6th February for recess and lunch orders. Lunch orders are available for children across the school from Kindy (once they start full days) through to year 6. Recess is not pre-ordered and is only available for children in years 1-6. We are using last term’s menu, available from the school website or the front office.

To place an order there are a few options, you can order online at: ouronlinecanteen.com.au, or you can buy some lunch bags (paper) from the canteen or supermarket, write your child’s name, class and order on the bag placing correct money in the bag or see us on the morning you are ordering so we can give you your change, we do not place change into lunch bags. Another alternative is to buy a sheet of money stickers, these are available from the canteen, you then just place the total of your order worth of stickers onto the bag (the sticker sheet has many different denominations on it). Don’t forget to update your child/children’s class details for the New Year so that their orders get delivered to the correct class.

Lastly and most importantly the canteen needs your help between 9-11am, 12-1:40pm or 9am-1:30pm. If you think you can help out please come down and see us in the canteen or contact me on 0421 224 603. We are open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so even if you could do one shift a term we would be very grateful! If you have any questions at all please don’t hesitate to contact me or come and see me at the canteen.

Tammy Park– Canteen Coordinator

UNIFORM NEWS Welcome to 2017! For those new to the school, the uniform shop is open for sales every Monday morning in the MPA from 8:15-9am and we accept either cash or cheques. For those of you who are unable to make it on a Monday there are a couple of options. Orders can be placed either by filling out an order form, which can be found on the school website, and placing it with the correct money or cheque into the blue P & C box located in the front office. The other option is to place an order online through www.ouronlinecanteen.com.au. Orders placed with the order form or online will then be delivered to your child's class the following Monday. Don't forget if you are using the Our Online Canteen ordering system, update your child/children's class details for the New Year so that orders are delivered to the correct class!

If at any time you have ordered an item that happens to be the wrong size, please leave the tags on and we can swap it over for the correct size! Also to all existing parents please don't forget that the uniform shop accepts and sells second hand uniforms so if you have any that are lying around there are always others in need of them.

NO STOPPING means that a motorist cannot stop to set down or pick up passengers. Typically these are put in place to ban vehicles from stopping in potentially hazardous areas. Statutory NO STOPPING areas occur under the provisions of the Road Traffic Code. These areas may or may not be sign posted. For example it is an offence to stop or park a vehicle: Within three metres of a double barrier white line. Within ten metres of an intersection. Within nine metres of a traffic island.

PLEASE BE AWARE that penalties may apply for: Parking on a NO STOPPING area (stopping on a road during the prohibited period). Stopping/parking on the footpath. Parking in a NO PARKING area. Double parking. Parking on a nature strip (verge) without the owner’s consent. Parking such that the vehicle causes obstruction in a public place. Parking facing the wrong way against traffic flow. Parking on a median strip.

Golden Rules of Parent Parking: Don’t block driveways. Don’t park on footpaths. Don’t obstruct children’s crossings. Do be aware, courteous and responsible. Do observe parking signs.

Illegal parking may have a notice of infringement or an infringement placed on the vehicle, or a photograph of the offending vehicle may be taken and an infringement posted out.
