Great to see our past President Ian Bessell back from the Lakes for a visit, looking well.Saturday evening we enjoyed a casserole & sweet meal, to finish the day, which was enjoyed by all,We even wished our very valued member Kate a Happy Birthday while she blew out the candles. We would like to see more members at these events, as its getting to be the same exhibits all the time,I’m sure there is some very interesting old machinery tucked away in your sheds that would bring back memories to the public, so how about giving it a bit of spit & polish & come along to enjoy our fun, looking forward to seeing you. Thanks again to the members that enjoyed our weekend.Apologies to any exhibitor I’ve missed, or exhibits I’ve missed.

Barb Moore.

Thank YouI would like to thank all members of The Historical Machinery Club of Tasmania for the cards, flowers and expressions of sympathy. To see so many of you at Ivan’s funeral was overwhelming. Your support at this difficult time was very much appreciated and a great comfort to me.

Kate Best.

Amber Clarke is 7 years old and born with Cerebral Palsy. The Clarke family have been fundraising to be able to take Amber to South Australia for a very intensive treatment called “Therasuit Therapy”. This will help aid Amber do all the things she dreams of doing but in particular walking and talking, two things we take for granted every single day. The therapy is expensive so the Clarke family need some assistance in helping Amber reach her dream. It is with great pleasure that the Sassafras Heritage Farming Weekend committee were recently able to donate $6,000 to Amber’s rehabilitation fund.

The weather stayed pretty kind to us over the two days of the show, with late showers in the afternoon on both days.We were also set up on the south-eastern side of the show ground this year.Members who attended were:Brian Scott, who displayed two lawn mowers and a petrol engine with a water pump and also two small diesel engines, which he revved up every couple of hours and smoked everyone out.Viv Voss had two small petrol engines which he bought along to display.Pat and Heather Harris displayed a petrol engine with a water pump and also an old reel lawn mower.Rex Woodberry had a display of various types of hand working tools.

Ray Harris bought along a diesel engine and assorted chainsaws to display.Nigel Boyd had a good display of railway tracks, memorabilia and his cruise liner. Over the day he also did his spruiking of come get your pop dog, chips and donuts at least a dozen times throughout the day.Scott Allsop had a display of model engines.Katie Best did her best to keep the pot boiling for the members throughout the two days for their coffees and tea.We had two late arrivals on Saturday, Kevin Reeve and Michael Clark they arrived at 2.30 to display but we were packing up then so too late to display, but the thought was there that they did front up for the show. All in all a good quiet two days at

the show for our members.

Restoration of a 1916 Model K BSAI have had the good fortune to be able to buy this Model K BSA. I have replaced the wire in the original control cables (using the original nipples and ends) but with new wires and the original levers, replaced the Frame neck bearings, repacked the front and rear wheel bearings, cleaned the oil pump plunger, flushed the fuel system, was able to free up the tank drain and prime tap and delivery spout. Put some new rubber on the foot boards, new tyres and tubes and a new rear drive belt. Had the Original Brook Leather Saddle covered with its water marks and name badge, repaired the stitching. The old machine had not been used since the early 1920s and after learning about the spark, throttle, air lever and the mixture adjustment it started after laying up for more than 93 years. It was a big thrill when it sprang into life after only a few kicks. I have now got the Bike on Club Rego and enjoy riding the Machine on every chance I get. Joe Young

The NHMA Mission Statement. The NHMA Inc is an Association of enthusiasts from across Australia, formed in 1987 by a small band of clubs with similar interests that provides a fellowship with common interest of collecting, restoring, displaying of Heritage Farm Machinery, Tractors, Vehicles and Associated Memorabilia. The necessity of a working handbook for NHMA member clubs has grown over the past years. The issues of insurance, safety matters, club record keeping have and will continue to become more complex. It is also becoming more difficult for clubs to elect officers who are willing to take on these positions that are vital to the clubs future. The guideline handbook is now updated regularly, to keep up with latest developments. The main theme is on SAFETY FIRST AT ALL TIMES. Taken from the NHMA current guidelines. Your President, Secretary and Treasurer have the current handbook. Please ask if you would like to check on an issue.

Members please noteIt is a requirement that you please display your name tag at our monthly meetings and also at our machinery displays. This will help our new members to get to know the rest of us, thank you. Please note if you require a name tag please let Ian Bessell know. Contact details are on page 2 thank you.
