Happy Together
Happy Together is a project designed to support low-income clients from KCWA family team
by delivering food and basic necessities to their homes every two weeks since March,
planned until June 2020. From March to May, we have successfully delivered 103 donation
packages to 230 individuals in total, along with letters of encouragement.
For this program, nine people participated as delivery volunteers from Pilgrim Church.
The WAY(We Are with You) Project
The WAY Project, funded by the United Way, supports
Korean seniors who are experiencing difficulties due to
language barriers and health concerns without immediate
families or caregivers who can support them during
COVID-19. We collaborated with local Korean restaurants
for five weeks to deliver prepared meals and side dishes
weekly to 46 seniors over the age of 70. We also
delivered rice, kimchi, and other necessities two times
during the project period. In addition, KCWA continues to
provide counselling services over the phone to help
seniors maintain physical and mental health. The WAY
Project is scheduled to run until June 19th, 2020.
COPE with COVID, HOPE with KCWA
Nineteen students from JK to Gr.12 and four volunteers
participated in this virtual program, which ran from May
11th to May 30th. There were three programs in total –
Hope Museum, Pen-Friend, and Mini-Orchestra – and
each program was designed to elicit messages of comfort
and hope to the heroes working in the frontlines during
COVID-19 and to community members through drawings,
hand-written letters, and music. Students’ artworks from
this project are posted on the KCWA website.
Cheer Up- Korean Community!Campaign

2020, at our North York Centre location to those who

Donor's Voice (Q & A)-Jaemeong Yu / JS Design Renovation
Inc.
(Jaemeong Yu operates JS Design Renovation Inc. and has been a sponsor at KCWA since
2019 for family team clients through regular monthly support. During CODIV-19, Jae-Myung
Yoo continues to support through the “Happy Together Project”, which delivers food and
basic necessities to about 20 families every two weeks.)
Q1) Is there a specific motivation that led you to sponsor and volunteer?
When I immigrated 21 years ago, there were hard time when I did not experience enormous
difficulty. A business I operated was at a point of irreparable, and it was impossible to
revive. When I think of those times, it was so dark and hopeless. There was an acquaintance
that reached out with a helping hand when I hit rock-bottom, and with his help, I was able
to get back up. If he did not lend a helping hand at the time, I would not have been here
today. I often think of that time. And I started volunteering and sponsoring, hoping to be
someone who offers support to those in need.
Q2) How did you learn about KCWA, and why did you start sponsoring?
I currently attend Pilgrim Community Church, and I heard about how my church sponsors
and participate in volunteering with various programs at KCWA. In particular, from what I
have heard from local community members, I was able to confirm that KCWA works
tirelessly for the community. I was convinced that it is a reliable organization in many ways,
so I decided to sponsor.
Q3) Can you tell us about your experience and future plans for volunteering and sponsoring?
I have provided pro bono handyman work to seniors, single-parent families, international
students and others in financially difficult situations for seven years. I am skilled in-home
repair, so I have been providing home repair services, small to big, including any repairs
that are difficult to solve, within my capacity without charge. In particular, I urge my
employees to help others in the service dimension, not to expand their business but for
volunteering purposes, at least one day a week. I made a promise to myself to give 2% of
all my income to those in need in the community, and it is a religious pledge, so I keep this
part up, and I plan to increase my contribution in the future.
Q4) Are there any messages you would like to share with other community members?
To look around your community. You will discover that many neighbours need a helping
hand. To help someone, whether financially, emotionally, or through giving your time, is not
easy, and at times, it can be of inconvenience to yourself. Still it can be a meaningful
opportunity to ignite a flame that is going off or to help grow seed. Try participating in
simple volunteer work or make a small donation. I hope you experience the joy that comes
from your contribution.
