Starting Salary $9.25 Salary Range: $9.25 - $10.75 Job Description:
This position is responsible in assisting the public in using the Library's computers,
printers, copiers, scanners and fax machines. Computer Assistants are
responsible for assisting the public in using various software applications in the
Computer Labs, assisting card holders in signing on to the public computers
through our time management system, and issuing guest passes to non-card
holders. This position is also responsible for maintaining, setting up, and resolving
issues with the Library's computers and troubleshooting hardware and software
problems. Computer Assistants perform basic maintenance on equipment, clean
equipment, and perform other technological support duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Strong commitment to positive and polite public service.
Excellent communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software.
Computer Lab and/or Library experience preferred.
Experience setting up and maintaining PC Hardware.
Software installation experience preferred.
Ability to work independently after training is complete. Strong problem solving skills.
Detail oriented.
Physical Requirements: Applicants must be able to lift 25 lbs., bend, push and stand for periods of time.
Hours: Up to 19 hours per week
The Library is open evenings and weekends
Availability to work some nights and/or weekends is required

Job Description
A Library Computer Aide assists Library users in the Computer Room assuring that all computers, the
SAM print management system and printers are functioning properly and assisting users with access
to the internet and use of the computers. Library Computer Aides enforce the Library Internet and
Computer Use Policy if necessary with the support of the Reference Librarian.
A Library Computer Aide may be called upon to do any or all of the following (These
examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform):
Clear paper jams
Assist with use of MS Office products
Monitor functioning and correct problems with SAM print management system
Reinforce the library internet policy
Help computer users with internet browsers
Assist with audio-visual setup requests
A Library Computer Aide, upon application, shall have the following training and experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent
Previous library public service experience helpful (Preferred)
Associate level degree or some college (Preferred)
Ability to troubleshoot and repair basic personal computer problems
Excellent public service skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Dependability, energy, self-motivation and positive attitude
Ability to reach, bend, stretch and stand for long periods

The Troy Public Library is the hub of the vibrant, dynamic, and diverse City of Troy. The Library sees over 700,000 visitors per year and serves an educated and involved community. Being engaged with up-to-date technology is a priority and a value to Library staff, residents, and businesses. DUTIES
Monitor patrons’ use of the library public computers and enforce computer use policy.
Manage patron issues in the computer lab, and enforce all of the policies around that, food, noise, time, managing Envisionware.
Assist technology center patrons, troubleshoot computer hardware and software issues.
Apply a full working knowledge of all forms of technology, especially laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers.
Maintain the library’s public calendar and enforce room use policy.
Assist with teaching computer classes to the public.
Perform related duties as required. REQUIREMENTS
High school degree or GED equivalent and a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college credits. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Must submit proof of educational attainment at time of application and official transcripts at time of interview.
Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public, library staff, library volunteers, and other City departments.
Ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, fast-paced environment, using excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency with electronic resources, Microsoft Office applications, social networking sites, and mobile technology.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency using multiple devices and platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
PREFERENCES
Prefer course work in Library Science.
Prefer previous clerical experience and strong keyboarding/data entry skills.
Strongly prefer recent experience working with the public in a technology support environment.
Experience with library electronic resources, e.g. OverDrive, Hoopla, and other relevant software. HOURS Part-time, year-round. Twenty (20) hours per week. Schedule will be varied to include days, evenings, and weekends. Flexibility is needed.
