World Book Day continued:

Year 1 pupils welcomed a very special

visitor into school for World Book Day.

‘Tom the Tale Teller’ joined each Year 1

class for a special reading session where

he shared some traditional folk tales using

props. Here he is with Thing 1 (Kadence),

Thing 2 (Joe), The Green Crayon (Max)

and ‘Poppy’ from Trolls (Georgia). We

would like to thank Tom for reciting some

fantastic stories in such an engaging way!

Reception children took part in various activities

during World Book Day. They all made their own

bookmark to use at home and made ‘Gingerbread

men’. The children had lots of fun and enjoyed

seeing their teachers dressed up too! Opposite is

Primrose dressed as Elmer and Alex dressed as

the BFG. Well done everyone!

Year 2 children were very excited about celebrating

their favourite story characters on World Book

Day. There were some excellent costumes including

Fantastic Mr Fox, The Worst Witch, Horrid Henry and

Batman! Year 2 children read the story The Giraffe

and the Pelly and Me, written by Roald Dahl where the

character Billy, dreams of creating his own sweet

shop. Children designed and described their own

sweets using some very imaginative ideas. They also

read some true life stories about some amazing

animals who have helped people in different ways and

have become animal heroes.

Year 3 children enjoyed listening to several stories

from the Amazing Animal Heroes book. They included

‘Wojtek – The Loyal Soldier Bear’, ‘Sergeant Bill – The

Head-Butting Goat’ and ‘Hannibal and The Mountain

Climbing Elephants’. The stories share how heroic

animals caught in human conflicts have shown bravery,

friendship, or brought comfort to people.

Photographed on the left can be seen Charlie Bicknell,

Stanley Smith and Jenson Baldwin all from Year 3.

Parents’ Evening

Nursery to Year 5 parent consultation meetings with classteachers are taking place during the

week beginning 23rd March with Parents’ Evening on Thursday 26th March. To make an

appointment to see your child’s classteacher, please follow the link that should have been sent to your

mobile phone or email address yesterday, and select a time convenient for you. This service is available

to access now until Thursday 19th March at 4.00pm. Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if

you do experience any problems with the booking service.

Year 6 children studied Hamlet by William Shakespeare. They created a

story board to re-tell the story, acted out a scene and created a family

tree to show the relationships between the characters. Year 6 children

also read animal hero stories relating to war time. Photographed above

are Tyler Parton, Elliot Holdsworth. Evie Tranter and Grace Clent.

Year 4 children had great fun on World Book Day. They worked in

groups to become ‘story experts’ and shared some of the wonderful

stories from our chosen book ‘Amazing Animal Heroes’ by Mike

Unwin. In addition, the children also received a visit from a children’s

author, Laurence Prestidge. All classes in Year 4, participated in

workshops with Laurence to design characters that they would be able to

include in their own stories. They were asked to write a brief blurb for the

book in which this character could be used, using techniques to hook the

reader. At the end of the day Laurence conducted an assembly, sharing

excerpts from some of the books that he has written.

Pictured above are Callum

Boden, Lexi Taylor, Noah

Cross and Jessica Bridgart

all from Year 4.

Year 5 also spent World Book Day exploring a range of Amazing Animal Heroes. Children read different Amazing Animal Hero stories and retold them as a comic strip. In groups, children discussed the reasons why their focus ‘animal hero’ was the bravest, ready to have a whole year group debate to award one animal the ‘most heroic’.

Above is Leila-May Boyd, Liam Carter

and Holly Collins from Year 5.

Netball News!

On 13th February, Miss Myatt and Mr Redpath took

14 girls to Rugeley Leisure Centre to play some

friendly netball matches against Chancel Primary

School. The girls enjoyed the games and worked

together extremely well. The girls who took part

were as follows: Back left: Danielle Owen, Sophie

Hassall, Sophie Glover, Tia Smallman, Lillie

Crutchley, Evie Ray, Lucina Cooke and Amara

against Littleton Green meaning that they won their group and

progressed to the final! A tough final against Chancel Primary,

who had not conceded a single goal in their group, ended in us

winning 7- 4 which is an amazing result! The team then

progressed to the Level 3 competition at Fenton Manor in Stoke,

on 3rd March. Miss Myatt was thoroughly impressed with all

players and their super team spirit. Well done everyone! The

team were as follows: Back left: Sonny Liggins, Alex Fewtrell, Tia

Sponsor Money

Thank you to all those families who were able to return sponsor money today, in support of

our Maths Day and active maths activities. Pupils will be consulted regarding how they feel

the funds would be best spent to benefit them directly.
