    FEBRUARY 2015WORSHIP ATTENDANCE

IN DECEMBER 2014 AND JANUARY 2015

Our gatherings for the Worship of Godin Jesus Christ is the center of our lifetogether in Christs Church. All else flows

from that: our gathering for study, forfellowship, for service, and for outreach.Take the time to invite and bring a relative, neighbor, or friend to worship. Thank you!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,Members and Friends of the

    Hill United PresbyterianChurch:

The month of February brings with itthe beginning of the Lenten Season.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday andincludes the forty days (less the sixSundays) before Easter.

Lent is forty days because it remindsus of the forty days Jesus spent in thewilderness being tested and tempted bySatan after Jesus Baptism.

Often times, Lent is understood as atime of denying yourself something forspiritual purposes.

How about, rather than denyingyourself some things, adding some things

    to your spiritual life!

A person could add more prayer andBible study; or be more loving towardsothers; or share about ones life in ChristJesus with others; or take on a trial tithingperiod in ones monetary gifts to theministry and mission of the Church.

Take a few moments to consider andpray about this proposal for Lent 2015!

Yours for giving more through ChristJesus this Lenten Season,

    Pastor ClarkRev. Clark Sawyer

In 1979 the Worship Committee asked BeaWelch, a life-long member of Hill Church, to make

the communion bread. The late Virginia Lytle, aformer member, got the recipe from a Butler bakerythat closed. Bea rolls out the dough on poster boardthat she has marked off in 5/8 inch squares. Threeyears ago Bea recruited Kerry McElhaney to makethe bread during the winter, from December throughMarch. Bea will be rolling out the bread again in

    April.

Making the communion bread is only one of theways that Bea serves the church. She is Moderatorof Presbyterian Women, Secretary of the Board ofDeacons, and head usher for the womens team.

She also served as Church Treasurer for 20 years. In the past she has taught Sunday school and at onetime headed the former Vacation Bible School

    program.

Teaching Sunday school for third and fourth

graders was probably the most rewarding, Bea

Every year Hill Church is asked to support the work of the Beaver-Butler Presbytery, the Synod of the Trinity and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church USA.This support is made through a per-capita assessment of church members. Thisassessment has been used for over 150 years to fund the essential work of thePresbyterian Church.

As we have done in past years, we are inviting members to the Hill Church family offaith to contribute to the support of the shared work of the Presbyterian Church USA.The per-capita assessment for 2015 is $39.93 per member which includes all thosewho have been baptized and have made their profession of faith. For example, a singlemember would contribute $39.93, a couple who are both members would contribute$79.86, a couple with one confirmed child would contribute $119.79 and so on.

For your convenience in making this offering, a special blue envelope has beenincluded in your regular box of envelopes, appearing between

the January 25thand the February 1stenvelopes. Or you maymark the memo line of your check per-capita and this offeringwill be properly credited to your giving statement.

Thank you for your continued generosity and support.
