Value of the Fortnight

We show RESPECT whenever we show others that we care about them.

Treating others with dignity and speaking to others in a courteous and polite way are important because they create a peaceful atmosphere to work and play in.

At Emerson we value everybody by demonstrating mutual respect in all we say and do. This is the basis of building strong and positive relationships that endure well past our school years.

Our Student Leaders are fine examples of how demonstrating respect is effective in building healthy relationships.

They have been chosen for their various positions because they have shown respect to both students and staff over many years.

Congratulations to everyone on the list you should be very proud of your achievements!

DIANNE WRIGHT

Tuesday 28 February, 2017

What a beautiful day! Students from MSK had the opportunity to sail down the Yarra River and

into the bay.

The yacht that they travelled on was the “I Can”. It was previously named the “97” and it was a

racing yacht. It won line honors and also handicap honours in the Sydney to Hobart Race.

Although it was a warm day the breeze kept them a little bit cooler. The headsail was unfurled

and the yacht tacked both in the river and on the bay. Students worked the grinder in order to

change the position of the sail.

Two tugboats went past us on the way to bring in a very large boat. Ferries passed us and the

passengers waved to us.

The people on the yacht were all volunteers who knew how to sail and were happy to pass on

knowledge about sailing.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT last Friday was very successful with all teams having a great after-

noon. The Volleyball squad had a win and Mr Stokes is very impressed with the improved

skills. One of the most outstanding skills the Volleyball team possesses are team work and en-

couragement of fellow team mates.

Our A grade team had a great game, coming away with the win as well as working on their of-

fence. The fast transition of play allows many points to be scored and the team to gain a strong

lead.

B grade had a tougher game, with a tight score line in the first half. The boys were able to work hard on their

defense and limiting Ashwood to marginal points in the second half.

C grade played well, with some solid offense in the first half, many players contributed to the scoring, which is a

credit to their team work.

The girl’s game was a tight game. Emerson only had 5 players and all of the girls had to put in a huge

amount of effort. The girls need to be congratulated of their hard work and only went down by 2 points!

Around the Bay training starts on Tuesday with a skills session being held on the oval at 3-3.45pm. All

students that participate in the Around the Bay training must be picked up by a parent/guardian or have permission

to make their own way home. If you would like to participate please see the PE staff.

ACTIVE APRIL will be starting soon. All of the students will be enrolled by the PE staff. Every student is eligible for

10 free YMCA passes. If you would like further information about this please contact Jess White.
