From the Principal, Joanna Stanford

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

Thank you to our whole school community for a fabulous Term 1. I have enjoyed being a part of your child’s learning for this term.

Our year 3-6 students had a wonderful time at athletics day this week. All students were risk takers and tried their best on the day. Congratulations to Blue House for scoring the most points.

We practised our Emergency Management Plan this week. Our students practised a “lock down”. This is a procedure when students come in from the playground or remain in their learning community. Our students were very responsible, listened to teachers by moving to the appropriate learning spaces and were able to reflect on times that we may need to use this procedure. Students name scenarios that included an ambulance being called for a hurt child in the yard, severe weather conditions, or a car accident in the street. Please discuss these with your child and ways to be safe at school and at home.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to seeing you all next term. We have some wonderful school and community events for next term. Please check the newsletter and Derrimut Facebook page for updates about these events.

Volunteers Needed—Mother’s Day Stall

DPS is looking for 2-3 volunteers per session who could

help with our Mother’s Day Stall on Thursday 11th May

and Friday 12th May. If you are available between the

times below, please call Katie on 8361 1000. Your help

will be greatly appreciated.

We need your help…

We are after two types of volunteers to help support our school, one being volunteers for a fundraising committee, to help out with different fundraising opportunities, such as Mother’s Day/Father’s day stalls, Easter hampers. The other being, volunteers to help out on the day of our special events. We will be holding an informal morning tea for those who are interested to learn more about volunteering at Derrimut PS. This will be held on Wednesday 19th April at 9:15am in the Resource Centre. If you are interested, please contact Katie and register your details for the morning tea.

THANK YOU

A BIG thank you to all of or wonderful parents who have helped out in many different ways throughout this term. Eg. Classroom Helpers, School Banking, Kitchen/Garden.

Thank you from all the staff at DPS

Health Expo

In May, we will have a Health Expo on Friday 26th May, that will be launched at Showcase. There will be a number of exciting events such as a Teddy Bear Doctors Surgery run by medical students, health checks for our parents, and a range of heath expo stands. If you are a local sporting club or group and would like to get more interest in our club at this expo, please let me know by phone or by emailing the school email address.

Please watch this space to see who and what else will be at the expo.

Symeonidis Being an excellent listener

Chatter, chatter, chatter, the sound of my teeth going up and down was the only thing you could hear because on Friday 20th August it was like an ice block on the oval. The first thing was splitting into age groups.

The 10 year olds were doing Discus first. I was in the 10 year old age group even though I am not 10 but I will be soon. As soon as you can imagine! I twisted my body, swung my arm and let go of the discus. Wow! What a great shot. After everybody had their go I had to have another go with some other girl. Another great shot from Leia. It was a great shot but not big enough for a ribbon.
