I am delighted to introduce this third
edition of the Mechanical Department
Newsletter. We intend to maintain this
regular publication and to use it to keep
you in touch with news and developments
related to the Department of Mechanical
Engineering, School of Technology
(SOT).

About Indian Institute of Welding, Baroda Br: The Indian Institute
of Welding, Baroda Branch IIWBaroda Branch is one of the most active
branches covering entire Gujarat State. Branch was founded on 29th
August 1998 and it has strength of about 450 members. It regularly
organizes Seminars, technical lectures, certificate courses on
WPSPQR, Welding Inspector, industrial visits, national events etc.
Baroda Branch has been the centre of AMIIW exam. Baroda branch
executive committee consists of highly dedicated and motivated team
of personnel drawn from various industries and academic institutions.
About IIW-PDPU student chapter: IIW-PDPU student chapter was
established on 19th Jan 2018; during last one year PDPU student
chapter conducted various activities like industrial visits at Kalpataru
Power Transmission Limited and INOXCVA. Invited experts, Dr. G.
Madhusudhan Reddy, Outstanding Scientist, Associate Director,
Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Hyderabad.
Mr. Yogeshchandra S Trivedi, Senior Vice President & Member of
Board, L & T. Including experts from Fronius India Private Limited,
Kemppi India and flow 3D by Kaushiks International, Bangalore &
Hand on NDT. PDPU chapter also conducted seminar for final year
students, 26 team participated, 3 teams received best presentation
award.

Seminar was free for all students, students associated with various
other IIW Chapters participated including five students and one
faculty from BIT Vadodara and 6 students & one faculty Marwadi
University Rajkot. Total 20 Young engineers participated.

Report of the Exhibition held at PDPU on 18th January, 2019
Welding Research Lab; Developed under funding received from
various funding agencies like DST, DAE, ISRO, and DRDO. So far 27
M.Tech students have completed M.Tech dissertation using resources
created under lab and 6 PhDs awarded so far. Currently eight
students are pursing PhD at welding research Lab.
On 18th January, 2019, an exhibition was held at Pandit Deendayal
Petroleum University campus, Raisan, Gandhinagar, the Hon’ble
Education Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, as well
as other delegates who arrived for the “Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2019”
and of course for the PDPU students too. Total 10 no of stalls were
there in which Stall no 10 was allotted to the “Welding Research Lab”.
Total 9 Posters of various research works were displayed along with
their samples and some of the test performed on the weld joint. The
topics which were highlighted during the exhibition by welding
research were as listed below:
1) Friction Stir Welding,
2) Bobbin tool friction stir welding,
3) Friction stir processing,
4) Friction welding,
5) Cold metal transfer
6) Bend test specimen,
7) Tensile test specimens for super plasticity,
8) Characterization of weld joints
9) Dissimilar metal joining.
The above mentioned topics were explained and discussed with Mr.
Bhupendrasinh Chudasma, Hon’ble Education minister, Government
of Gujarat, and to the delegates who came from India as well as out of
India. Excellent appreciation was received about the work being
done in the field of welding research from all the delegates and from
the Mr. Bhupendrasinh Chudasma. Two persons were there as stall in
charge under the guidance of Dr. Vishvesh J Badheka and Dr. Kush
Mehta.

“We are thankful to the organizing committee (ORSP Team) of the
exhibition and Mr. Abhinav Kapadia, Chief Financial Officer, Pandit
Deendayal Petroleum University, for giving us the opportunity to
show the research work to the delegates and to the Hon’ble education
minister of Gujarat, Mr. Bhupendrasinh Chudasma. We are also
thankful to Dr. Vishvesh Badheka for giving us the opportunity to
represent the Mechanical engineering Dept.

Vibrant Global Trade Show-2019
Visited by Mr. Umang R Soni & Mr. Jayesh D Panchal from PDPU,
Gandhinagar
Vibrant Gujarat 2019 is focused on promoting trade, investments and business
from various countries across the globe. In lieu of the same, the summit will
invite key leaders and business leaders from West Asia and the African
continent.
The celebration of these two days will upgrade India's position in the sectors of
medicine, tourism, food and MSME products and also develop bilateral long
term trade relations. This will also expand diplomatic relationships and
strengthen India's position in the global order.

Few Story of Visit is Explained as follows:
As we started our visit after entering from gate at Power, Renewable Energy
& Environment with future Charging Technology introduced by
Charge+Zone for Electrical Powered Vehicle in India. Charge+Zone is a
tech-driven EV Charging infrastructure company specializing in B2B and B2C
charging services on both dedicated and opportunity based charging using
smart-grid network. Based in India, with indigenous development of the
technology of mobile-app and CMS with firmware/web-socket cloud based
computing, Charge+Zone is on a mission to establish 100,000 charging
stations across important markets of EVs in India for cars, buses and even
trucks.
Other some Power, Renewable Energy & Environment related companies stall
we are visited such as Powerica deals with Power generating by Wind Turbine
by green energy, Solar PV Module, Solar Water Heater, Solar lighting
Manufacturer and seller such as citizen Solar (Solarising the Nation), Solar
KitTesco Energy, GEDA, Power Tree, etc.
As we visited the Automobiles, Electronic Vehicles, Engineering,
Banking, & Finance section, in this the Tunwal E-Vehicles introduced a
various range of Premium Electric Scooter as smart E-Bike with 60V,
Lithium ion Battery operated and ARAI Approved, Which claim No
registration and Lenience Required.
Man Energy Solution Providing one stop solution for the engineering
problem solution with man power in Manufacturing Activities, Field service
Activities, and Featured Engineering. CINK Hydro Energy manufacturer
of turbines deals with cross flow, Pelton, Kaplan, and Francis. Mehta CAD
CAM Systems Pvt. Ltd. Introduced an Innovative concept of Laser
Welding technology Machine, also they deals with various laser engraving
and cutting Machines.
As we visited Port, Transport, Logistics, and Construction Section,
GUJSAIL gateway to aviation in Gujarat which making a sky high projects
in Gujarat which providing regional Air connectivity, MRO facilities,
Aviation park, Aero sport activities, airstrip development, airborne law
enforcement, Aviation Training Institte, and Extensive Helipad
development in Gujarat. Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board
(GIDB) which is designed as Nodal Agency and undertaking certain
projects related to Energy & Power sector, SIR, Industrial parks, Roads,
Ports, Railways, Logistics Parks & Services, Water Supply, Tourism, Agro
Infrastructure, Health, Education, Enviornment, etc. Pegasas Infracon Pvt.
Ltd, Dholera which started the investment facilities in smart city making
at Dholera with making it second highest International Cargo Airport.
In Agro & Food Processing section visited a Kiremko food processing
Equipment which is a dutch company deals with Food processing
equipments for releted to Potatoes such as French fries, potato chips,
potato Flake, fresh cut and preserved potatoes processing lines. Tolsma
storage Technology which deals with food processing and storage based
equipments for potatoes, onions, and carrots in bags, boxes or bulk for
highest storage efficiency. They developed AC/EC Fans, Quadro Air-mix
unit, quadro compact cooler, semi circular ventilation ducts, and
Innovative storage technology. USHA NEUROS developed an Agricultural
drone with compact design to control the spray volume according to the
moving speed of drone, the characteristics of crops, and characteristics of
each pesticide.
Greemanity Industries established in 2016 and making Kalptaru organic
Liquid fertilizer which is internally patented products. ICAR – Directorate
Groundnut Research at Junagadh providing good Agricultural practices
for minimizing Aflatoxin contamination in groundnut. GNFS Neem project
is an initiative for Woman empowerment and rural development which is
making production of Narmada Neem Shop and Neem oil for personal care
and domestic use.
As we visited Education and Skill Development, Well Control school: An
overview developed by ONGC for Industrial Machinery and Machining
Training with online Examination. We also visited our PDPU Stall in this
Section.
We are especially thanks to our Prof & Head Dr. Vishvesh J Badheka to give
the permission for visiting the Global Trade show and also thanks PDPU to
give us an opportunity for it.
Achievements
Team CZAR (M-BAJA team) stood overall AIR 46th among the teams
participated in the mBaja. Team performed well in the statics and
dynamic events and placed as
o 16th position in Suspension and Traction event.
o 18th position in the Rock Crawl event.
o 25th position in cost presentation.
Student Zone
Team Sovereign stood overall AIR 12th among the teams participated in
the E- Baja edition and completed 7th in the final endurance race. Team
performed well in the statics event also bagging
o 3rd position in design evaluation.
o 8th position in sales presentation.
o 17th position in cost presentation.
