PBL - Week 3

This week our PBL focus has been on how to be respectful and responsible when using the school toilets. Students

have recognised the importance of considering other student’s privacy and always leaving the toilet area clean.

Our school expectations require students to take toilet breaks during recess, lunch, before and after school where

possible. If a student needs to use the toilet during class time, they must always seek permission and return to class

promptly.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB ORDERS

All book club orders must be placed online through LOOP. There is no need to return paper order forms or payment

receipts to the school. Your child’s order will be delivered to the school and distributed to their classroom. They

usually receive their orders within 2 weeks of the issue closing date. www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download thei

iPhone and iPad app from the App Store or get it on Google Play for Android.

Avoca Beach Girls Netball Team Last Wednesday on 3 May the Avoca Beach Netball Team played their first game against Kincumber Public School.

The girls played an awesome game with great sportsmanship and they all had a big smile on their face!

They had lots of great intercepts, shots and did their personal best.

They played a great first quarter and were only down by one at the end of the first quarter. Unfortunately, they

ended up losing with the final score being 19-7.

A big thank you to Miss Metti for putting the team together, organising it and coaching the girls and a big thank you

to Alison Carlisle for helping with coaching the team.

Written by Olivia Eurell Media Team Representative.

P&C NEWS-Jackie Concar

“Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to sense a cause, practise ones

ideas, work with people, solve problems, see benefits and know one had a hand in them” Harriet Naylor.

AGM, PRESIDENT NEEDED - At our AGM held in March I resigned from my position as President of Avoca Beach

P&C, I have held this position for the last 3 years and was Secretary the year prior. I would like to thank all members

of our school and community who have offered their support, gratitude and encouragement. It has not always been

easy but I feel privileged to have been part of a team of such dedicated parents and would like to give special thanks

to Fi Currie, Paula Jamal, Bernice Cilliers, Deon Cilliers, Michelle Mitchell, Annette Parker, Lyndsay Buening, Jodi

Livesly and Liz McDonald for your continued positive support and keeping it fun along the way!!

Unfortunately, there were no willing volunteers to take up the position of President and our current P&C is without a

President. I would like to encourage anyone with a keen interest in our school to stand up and put themselves

forward, it was a position I took on with little knowledge or experience and I have found it to be an extremely

rewarding experience. I have learnt many new skills along the way and now is a great time to get involved when

there is such a great team willing to offer help and support. I am more than willing to offer any help and support

with the transition into the role.

UNIFORM SHOP – Our Uniform shop will be closed this Wednesday 10th May, you may still order online through

flexi- schools or you can wait and make your purchases on Friday. If you can offer an hour of your time once a term

and are available Wednesdays 8.30am -9.30am or Friday 3pm-4pm, please let me know so we can continue to keep

the uniform shop open, contact me at [email protected] or 0431036106.

78Avoca Beach Public School Newsletter Term 2 Week 3 NEXT MEETING – Our next meeting is tonight, Monday 8th May at 7pm in the staff room. All are welcome.

Many thanks,

Jackie Concar

EXTENDED LEAVE from ATTENDANCE. If you are planning a family holiday during the school term, for more than 5 days, parents need to apply for an ‘Application for Extended Leave’ from school. An ’Application for Extended Leave-Travel’ can be collected from the office. Once completed please return to the Principal at least two weeks prior to the leave then an approved ‘Certificate of Extended leave - Travel’ will be issued. The original certificate will be signed, copied for school records and returned to parents. This needs to be carried during leave as it must be produced when requested by police or other authorised attendance officers. UNIFORM SHOP opening hours Wednesdays 8.30am – 9.30am & Fridays 3.00pm – 4.00pm.

ETHICS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - Ethics classes at Avoca Beach have grown in popularity. One hundred children from Stages 1-3 are now choosing Ethics instead of attending Non-Scripture, with others on waiting lists. We need more volunteer teachers if we are to cater to these numbers and sustain the ethics program at the school. Teaching experience is not required for the role and free training is also available. To find out more about volunteering, contact Ethics Coordinator Janet Broz on 0416 843 556 or [email protected].
