ANGER: JUST ONE LETTER SHORT OF DANGER

Everyone has an opinion and differences in opinon can easily cause outbursts of anger in the workplace. If you have angry workers in your department or you yourself are angry, you may end up reporting more injuries on the job. A recent study by the Annals of Family Medicine found that high levels of anger increase the risk of injury. Angry people are more likely to sustain injuries serious enough to require emergency medical care, and the risk is higher for men than women, says lead author Daniel Vinson of the University of Missouri.

The study, in the Annals of Family Medicine, found that nearly 32% of all the patients reported being irritable just before they were injured, 18% reported being angry and 13% reported being hostile.

Anger more than quadrupled a person's odds of being injured, while being hostile increased those odds sixfold. For men,

Vinson says, the link was particularly clear. Another study that followed 100 drivers for

two weeks linked episodes of anger with "near accidents".

There is little doubt that anger can be a contributing factor in workplace injuries, but what do you do about it? Here are some tips:

-Consciously determine to be calm. Don't react, think! Remember your goals and respond appropriately. Choose to remain calm!

-Communicate. When someone upsets you, tell them. Calmly talk to them about how you feel about their words or actions. Learn to express yourself better -- clear and composed.

-Remove yourself. Get away from the scene until you can respond without anger. Remember to relax. Relaxation exercises or music can be helpful. Keep in mind you can reach out to someone you trust for help.

PROPOSAL UPDATES In September 2019, AVESI, Inc. submitted pricing and a commitment letter to team with APTIM on their proposal for the Decommissioning & Disposal of the SM-1 Nuclear Reactor Facility at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. APTIM provided a Best and Final Offer and resubmitted. This project has not yet been awarded. In December 2019, APTIM requested a bid to support them on the loading, transport, dismantling and disposal of the Surface Ship Support Barge (SSSB). The SSSB was used by the Navy to service reactors and supporting refueling of nuclear-powered surface combatants at Newport News Shipbuilding. APTIM was recently awarded this project and we are standing by to see if we can assist them based on our submittals.

In February 2020, AVESI Inc. signed a teaming agreement with HGL/APTIM to provide radiological support services for the USACE Luckey rebid in Luckey OH. The team is working on the request for proposal as the release date is anticipated any day. This project represents $100M over a 10-year period. We hope to see an award by the end of 2020.

In March 2020, AVESI, Inc. signed a teaming agreement with ATI, Inc. in order to pursue a Pre-placed Remedial Action Contract (PRAC) out of the Omaha District for the USACE.

The Request for Proposal for work on the I-270 bank remediation in St. Louis, MO was released in early June. The RFP will ask our team to propose on excavating over 30,000 cubic yards of soil on a bank adjacent to I-270 and have the area restored with backfill by the end of the year. This will be a big way to wrap up 2020!
