Regency Retirement Village of Morristown Hello Residents, It’s April once again! Lots of fun times are coming your way. Valerie Farmer, our Activities Director, has lots of items scheduled for your enjoyment this month. I would like to encourage all of you to look at your calendar and sign up for any outside trips, so that you have ample opportunity to get out of the building and enjoy the incoming spring. Also, let me remind you that we have a beautiful walking trail through our Regency Park. Maintenance will be putting out some flowers in the outside baskets and flower pots. Last year, we had some residents to assist with watering the flowers and some residents enjoyed planting their favorite flowers. If anyone would like to enjoy some light garden- ing, please let us know. So, as we journey through April, I wish all of you a very happy spring! We appreciate you for being part of our Regency family. If you closed your eyes, you could almost imagine yourself on the beach in Hawaii. The palm trees swaying, the

sun shining bright, the tropical drinks, a delicious Luau feast, Hawaiian music and hula dancers. That pretty much

describes our February What’s Cookin’ Wednesday’s Hawaiian Luau. We had a great time wearing leis, sipping on

Hawaiian punch, and feasting on some wonderful Hawaiian dishes. We are really enjoying these monthly meals.

Our next What’s Cookin’ Wednesday will be on April 18th. The theme will be Cowboy/Western.

What’s Cookin’ Wednesday: Hawaiian Luau – February 21st

Well, we didn’t know who would be playing in the Final 4 at the time of our FUNtastic Friday, but it didn’t really

matter - we had a great time anyway! As always, we shared a theme-related snack including nachos & cheese, pop-

corn, basketballs (cheese balls), and drinks. We had several residents who showed their “skills” with our inflatable

basketball goal & ball. We had a great afternoon and look forward to next month’s FUNtastic Friday: Caddyshack/

Golf theme. Join us on Friday, April 6th as we celebrate Golf.

FUNtastic Friday: Final 4 Day – March 2nd

2Regency Retirement Village of Morristown

A Parlor full of residents, employees (past and present), friends and family gathered on Tuesday, March 13th to

celebrate Trudy Darnell’s 20 year Anniversary as Executive Director of Regency Retirement Village. Trudy’s career

at Regency started in March 1998. At the celebration, many employees spoke of Trudy’s character, words that speak

volumes of who she is as a leader and boss, but also as a person. Determined. Dedicated. Compassionate. Diligent.

Driven. Amazing. Irreplaceable. Inspiring. Heart. Servant. Kind. Cheerful. REGENCY. We appreciate Trudy and her

heart for Regency’s residents and employees.

20th Anniversary Celebration for Trudy – March 13th

We were all a “wee bit Irish” for our St. Patrick’s Day party held one day early on Friday, March 16th. We celebrat-

ed by wearing green and feasting on shamrock cookies, pistachio salad, and sour cream & onion chips. We learned

about the history of St. Patrick and why we celebrate this holiday. We learned some little known facts, including that

St. Patrick actually wore blue. Also, according to some stories, St. Patrick used the three-leaf clover to teach people

in Ireland about Christianity and the Holy Trinity. And you know it wouldn’t be a party without some fun pictures

with props.

Ira Gulley was born in Hawkins County into a family of 12, where he

went to school, farmed, hauled coal, drove the milk truck, and worked for

the county, among other things. He married his wife of 50 years, Annie

Mae, in 1962. In 1966, he was drafted into the Army and stayed until

1968. When he came home, he joined the National Guard Reserves and

stayed until 1993. He also went on the road in trucking for 25 years. His

wife passed away in 2011. Ira moved into Regency in February 2014. He

says he made the decision to move here so he didn’t have to upkeep his

home, or continue eating his own cooking. Ira is a member of the Regen-

cy Church Committee. What does he enjoy most about Regency? The fact

that he can be by himself when he wants to, or he can be around people

whenever he wants.
