Ahoy, my dear, fellow steadfast prisoners of fate! CONSENSUS of the Napkin Nominations:Commodore:Tim FischerV. Commodore: Roger RoddySecretary: Lisa EdensTreasurer: Jan Cole

Additional Nominations &Final Voting to be at next Potluck Dinner / Meeting.

Page 5

The Ides of March were just beginning as far as virus cautions emerging, but we had our Buccaneer night as scheduled with no apparent health mishaps. The restaurant was great with friendly service and good Vietnamese faire. Nominations were applied with vigor to napkin (papers) that were hustled around in all but exacting fashion. Lines seemingly appeared and disappeared magically, but the process reached an informal consensus…… Additional Nominations & Final Voting will take place at our next Potluck Dinner Meeting.

OSC Restaurant Cruise on Lake Weir March 7th

This cruise to a restaurant was originally going to be on Lake Harris, but the last couple years we encountered so much grass in the lake it was decided that we could have a very nice Restaurant Cruise right here on Lake Weir. But one might argue that the Ides of March were upon us as in the morning of the planned cruise high winds were creating white caps on the lake and it was decided in prudence to be flexible and cancel.

CANCELLED due to High Winds 🌬

The Ides of March Flexibility starts kicking in…

Spring Rum Race #2 / Flexibility

POSTPONED due to Lack of Wind … Teamwork on Sims’ Dock construction progress &Aiding Steve Jeffess with centerboard cable replacement.

We had the fixin’s for a rum race shaping up but the wind was not cooperating…..

Page 7: Newsletter April 2020 draft working · Page 1 2019-20 OSC OFFICERS Commodore: Tim Fischer Vice Commodore: Bob Hay Treasurer: ... and for the second and last time in my life I was

… Jeff, Roger, Charlene & Art ventured out to test the waters with hopes we could have a few races, but, as predicted the wind was dying, so we came in..

We re-grouped on the porch with the other sailors to assess a teamwork project for continuing on the progress for Sims’ dock project. As we did, Steve Jaffes arrived.

… Steve explained to the group what he wanted to do to repair his center-board cable on his 17’ Catboat. It required some strong sailors to turn his catboat 90º sideways on the beach so he could attach a new cable to the centerboard which would then be accessible for the repair. Since there was no wind for sailing this was an opportune time for the operation… And…. we have learned to be so Flexible ! ….

The repair having been accomplished, Steve with his electric motor made for Bird Island where he docks his sailboat.

Sims’ Dock ProjectThe OSC Team then turned our flexible energies back to the dock project:

Page 10: Newsletter April 2020 draft working · Page 1 2019-20 OSC OFFICERS Commodore: Tim Fischer Vice Commodore: Bob Hay Treasurer: ... and for the second and last time in my life I was

Most of the decking was finished on the dock and walkways. Our day was well served, even though we had to be flexible and postpone the second Spring Rum Race. Mark Ciraco’s safety boat, as seen here, is the first boat to be tied up to Sims’ dock.👇

This is CANCELLED; There will be an Evite if we do anything. Otherwise NO Event will be happening as was planned for in April. Be Flexible 🙂

⚓⚓ Miscellaneous ⚓⚓Some members have been doing some outdoor activities informally during this time where keeping social distancing is necessary and kept, but still want to get out there in the fresh air and on the water.

Kayaking Deep Creek in March Deep Creek is east of Palatka and is tidal waters with the St John’s River. It runs through some very beautiful canopied landscape. We encountered some fisherman and other kayakers but it was very serene ……
