HELEN ATTRACTS COMMENTS
HELEN Cottle’s Workshop Class was full of praise and many took the trouble to email their thoughts.
SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR SOCIETY
THE Queanbeyan Art Society wound up one of the most successful years on record at the annual Christmas Art Exhibition/Competition opening and the Members and Friends of the Society Christmas Party. Members and friends of the Society came together for the annual event and the usual good friendship and food shared to the sounds of member Stuart Marshall’s music. QAS Patron Frank Pangallo Frank Pangallo opened the Exhibition and was the Guest Speaker, speaking on the history of the now QAS Gallery (O’Neill’s Cottage). He was the force behind retaining the cottage as an art gallery while a Councillor on the QCC. The history of the cottage goes back to the first Mayor of Queanbeyan who lived in it. The area was further developed by the Art Society which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 201750th anniversary in 2017. The Exhibition was judged by Denis Mortimer and he was pleased with the quality of art hung. True to all year 120 works covered the gallery walls for the Exhibition which will hang until the end of January 2017. A Healthy and Happy Christmas! A Healthy and Happy Christmas!

OUR STUART’S RECYCLE ART OUR STUART’S RECYCLE ART
AART Society member Stuart Marshall Stuart Marshall returned to the Rotary Club of Queanbeyan West to do a demo for a charity painting but turned it into a recycled piece of art. You may have heard the expression 'behind every great man is an even greater woman'. Here is a new spin on this after Stuart showed us his backing board for the painting for the Rotary Tuesday meeting demon-stration 'behind every great creative work is a politician''behind every great creative work is a politician'. One wonders if a politician’s name is on the back of the charity art and particularly if he or she becomes Prime Minster does it put a bigger value on the work. Well done Stuart!Well done Stuart!
BRING AND BUY IN FEBRUARY
THE next QAS Bring and Buy will be held at the Gallery at the opening of the
‘Anything Goes’ Exhibition on Sunday 5th February 2017. Members Karen Hall and Patricia Fleming will pull together a wonderful collection of art materials and ‘goodies’, similar to those sought by members who attended November’s exhibition opening. Many thanks to the members and Friends of the Society who gave to the Bring and Buy! Members please consider giving those seldom-used and excess art materials which are taking up space in your studio.

PRESIDENT’S PALETTE
Yours in Art,
Barry Cranston
President
THE 2016 year came down for the Art Society at a great Christmas Exhibition/Christmas
Party and members and committee should be pleased with our year in art. A big thank you to all artists for your support throughout the year with our total yield for the Exhibitions over 1,000 1,000 worksworks. I am not sure if any other community art society is able to boast those numbers! To put this ‘show on the road’ ‘show on the road’ every month you must have a keen, workable and happy committee. I am pleased the Soci-ety has a committee with all these qualities. On behalf of all our members I thank our wonderful committee for its dedication and willingness to serve the QAS. Our membership is growing and I would ask members if they could go out of their way to make new members welcome. n With such a small palette it is hard to thank everyone who helped and made my job a pleasure this year, thank you!thank you!

hands over a cheque to Rhonda Rhonda Robinson Robinson of Soldier On at the office at Gungahlin House. The QAS 9th Charity Art Show was such a success the Society was able to present this cheque.
2017 QAS 50th Ideas
EVERY month in 2017 we have an extra special $50 (50 yrs) prize for a painting entered using gold paint/medium. Purchase a lovely new desk for the front room. It could be a stand alone
desk or a bench desk to run along under the window; It would be good if it had shelving underneath to hold gallery painters newslet-ters, visitors book and other items etc. Plant a tree (The ex Mayor). Plant a golden rose. Plant a Time Capsule. Find ppl whose family members started the Society or were in the first years. Display historic photos of early years in the Society. Everyone's memories of their own time in the Society and put them together into a book QAS ART SOCIETY GOLDEN MEMORIES. Members if you have any other ideas for our 50th contact secretary Rosanna.
GETTING STARTED GETTING STARTED
WWE all have trouble getting started again after not
painting for quite a while. I have discovered a way to get started after ‘cleaning’ up my painting studio and finding ‘several’ started works and they just needed a little love to bring them to life. Mind you some may never make it but with fresh eyes you will find a new colour, tone and a movement that can bring your old painting to life. If nothing else you will end up with more room and a clean studio. Give it ago! Give it ago!
