STAFF ENJOY A SLICE OF MEXICO
Year 11 Food Technology students brought a slice of Latin America to school when they set up a makeshift Mexican restaurant.
The lunchtime event was staged for staff to sample their cooking skills, after they had spent a busy morn-ing preparing a range of delicacies for their GCSE Hos-pitality exam.
Najma Abdullahi, Iman Achaiba, Sidra Ahmed, Daud Butt, Mwamba Lesa, Madina Hussein Abdi, Roxana Stanescu and Lameer Al-Fifi all took part in the exam, which was led by Mrs McMullen, Interim Vice Princi-pal and Ms Hawthorne, Food Technology Technician. Iman Achaiba was Team Leader and Head Chef for the event, with Daud Butt taking the role of Sous Chef. They spent a busy morning making chicken and vege-table quesadillas, prawn empanadas, corn on the cob, chilli con carne and rice, chicken and vegetable tacos along with a selection of desserts – chocolate chilli cake, walnut cake, plum and fragipane filo pastry and coffee crunch cake.

Staff including Executive Head teacher Frank McCarron were invited to come along to the ‘Juan Direction Restaurant’ to eat a three course lunch. The students then had to serve the food in their roles of Head Waiter, Restaurant Manager and wait staff. Mrs McMullen said: “It’s been a real success and the students have worked very well as a team. “A lot of the staff have said the food was delicious so that’s great to hear.” Another team will create a Carribbean menu next Tuesday which will count towards 30% of their GCSE exam.
ROLLS CRESCENT PRIMARY SCHOOL VISIT
Year 5 students from Rolls Crescent Primary School enjoyed a percussion samba class as part of their day visiting school on Tuesday.
Mr Burns divided the class of 30 students into four groups, and each group was given a different instrument to play.
The students took part in a range of activities whilst they were visiting school, which included a mini football tournament organised by Manchester United Foundation, a T-shirt printing session, a science class and a quiz about University.
Rolls Crescent Primary School Teaching Assistant Ms Sheils said the students had got a lot out of their visit.
“They’ve really enjoyed themselves and it’s helped ease any worries and concerns they had about starting high school.”
PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS ENJOYED GETTING IN RHYTHM
Students from Years 7-11 have been busy in rehearsals to take part in a huge school choir
concert at the M.E.N. Arena on Thursday 25 January.
A total of 18 students have been rehearsing on Tuesdays after school for the concert,
which will involve
schools from
across
Manchester. It is
organised by a
company called
Young Voices
who stage the
largest children’s
choir concert in
the world.
The students
have had 17
songs to learn
and they have also been rehearsing dance moves, with Bronwyn Bull in Year 9 helping to
teach the choreography.
They started rehearsing back in September and they are very excited about performing
at the concert with a live band.
Mr Burns has been taking the students through the rehearsals and some of them also
took part in a similar concert last year.
Molly Hopkins, Year 11, who took part last year, said: “It was a lot of fun last year so I’m
looking forward to taking part again this year.”
Amoya Steer, Year 8, said: “I love to sing and I really enjoy singing as part of the choir.”
Out of the whole group there are only two boys taking part—Chris Thananki, Year 9, and
Altamash Saud Adnan Khan, Year 9.
Mr Burns is organising some T-shirts for the choir to wear at the concert next week.
We wish them all the best and hope the concert is a huge success!
Anyone who would like to join the choir after the concert is welcome to join rehearsals
on Tuesdays from 3pm-3.30pm in A6.
