Meet Our Drivers Night If you always wondered what the driver you root for every week looks like up close and without a helmet on, then you will enjoy tonight. It’s “Meet The Drivers” night at Five Flags Speed- way. This particular night is put on the schedule once a year strictly for the fans. It gives everyone the op- portunity to meet the drivers in each division at the same time. After practice and qualifying is completed we move all race cars from the pit and place them on the front straight.. At that time we will open the gate under the flagstand and invite all you fans to join us and give you the chance to mingle with them. Who knows? That driver you’ve been yelling “BOOOOO” to might end up making you a fan of theirs. Of course this by no means is the only thing we have in store for you. After the drivers get through trying to pick up a few new members to their fan club, they will provide everyone with some great racing. You Milton area fans, don’t be sur- prised in the pits if you see a familiar face. The crew chief on the #36 Pro Late Model is MIlton High Principal Mike Thorpe, brother of driver Keith Thorpe. (Keith crashed last week, and will not race tonite.) Steve Stokes is a track official, BLAB-TV host, and former driver. The Pro Late Models, Super Stocks, Sportsman and Bombers will be on hand and provide everyone with some great racing. We have to look at how close the points are this early in the racing year. The top 4 in the Pro Late Models are only 5 points apart. D J Vanderley has a 3 point lead on Tommy Rollins. Third is David Jones 1 point back, and one more point back is last year’s champion Ronnie Smith. A driver gets 15 points to qualify fastest, and it is reduced by 1 point for each place back. A feature win gets the driver 50 points, and then each place back is reduced by 3 points. Win from the pole and you get 65 points in one nite. So the championship for the PLM is still up in the air. See the back page for the points standings going into tonite’s action. It is close in the Bombers and Sportsmen, and we have a rare tie for the lead in the Super Stocks. Don’t forget to put May 28 on you calendar of events. It will be the sec- ond Blizzard Series race for the Super Late Models. The Papa John’s 100 will be the highlight of the night along with Modi- fieds, Sportsman and Bombers. Hope to see you on the front straight tonight. Maybe I can meet some of these drivers along with you. Really, they probably won’t allow me near them. Steve Stokes May 14, 2010 #6 Bonus Inside! 20 Photos Ready for Autographs
