AnnouncementsLip BalmsWe ask that the children do not bring lip balms into school. Some of the children are swapping and using each other’s which has the risk of passing on germs and bacteria. If your child has a genuine need for a lip balm can you please take it to the reception office where the office staff will oversee your child’s needs.

>>> NewsDear Parents and Carers,

As promised, here are introductions from our two new Primary Deputy Headteachers who join INA after the Easter break:

Gareth Marshall-Jones

I am delighted to be accepting the position of deputy of primary at Isaac Newton Academy and am excited about the prospect of getting to know you all. I am particularly looking forward to the chance of working within an academy where the best elements of primary and secondary education are combined to offer the children an outstanding educational experience.

I have previously been the deputy in both a small one form entry primary and a large three form primary school in Havering. I hope to bring all the knowledge and experience that I have gained to help build on the good work that is already taking place here.

I am now in my fifteenth year as a teacher and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I firmly believe that there is no limit to what children and adults are able to achieve. This philosophy ensures that I recognise that learning is a life-long experience and I look forward to the new things that I shall learn at the academy. I look forward to introducing myself to you during the course of the summer term. If there is ever anything that I can help with then please come and see me, and I will see how I can help.

Nichola West

What an exciting opportunity! I am exceptionally pleased and privileged to be joining this outstanding educational establishment. I am an enthusiastic and conscientious individual, who endeavours to achieve the best, positive outcomes for the children and adults I work with. My belief in the pupils’ wellbeing and their future role in society is central to everything I do. With my relentless optimism, I strive for success, empowering others and myself to reach our full potential.Currently, I live in Hornchurch with my husband and our two daughters. I have worked in Redbridge, in the teaching profession, for the past thirteen years. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching Studies from the University of Greenwich, and have gained a Fellowship with the College of Teachers. I have taught pupils

from Early Years to Year 6 at William Torbitt Primary School, where I have been Assistant Headteacher for the past three years. In my strategic leadership roles, I have led a range of teaching and non-teaching teams, as well as gaining experience in curriculum development.

I am delighted to be joining the team at Isaac Newton Academy. I look forward to meeting the pupils and their families, as well as working alongside the staff who have already made me feel so welcome!

As we approach the half term, I wanted to stress that we expect pupils to be in school every day during term time and for parents to ensure that they do not book any holidays or travel outside of the school holiday dates. We cannot authorise absence for travel abroad during term time except in the most exceptional or emergency situations. Such absence is not only recorded as unauthorised, which affects a child’s educational record, but is referred to the Education Welfare Officer and can incur a fine. We can only support your child to progress and learn if he/she is in school! Thank you in advance for your support in this matter.

With best wishes,

Rachel Macfarlane,

Principal

Enrichment ClubsThank you for returning your child’s enrichment letter. The children will continue next week with their current club and will start their new club from Monday 22nd February, after the half term break. Notification of the club allocations will be sent out by Thursday 11th February. If you have any questions regarding the clubs, please speak to Ms Chaggar at reception.

>>> NewsComposer of the FortnightFor the next week we will be listening to and learning about Robert Schumann as our Composer of the Fortnight. As a suggested activity to support at home, you could gather some facts about Schumann in preparation for the coming weeks. Information can also be found on the following youtube link.

Safeguarding ChildrenAs part of their curriculum, the children learn how to keep themselves safe. The following website has been set up by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to offer parents and schools advice on how to raise safeguarding awareness with children. There is a notable section called ‘The Underwear Rule’ which is of particular support and guidance to parents. The website also offers advice regarding ‘online safety’ and how to obtain support or advice regarding the safeguarding of children.

Message from the Reception Team

Do you have any Super hero costumes that your child or older children no longer want or wear that could be donated to the Reception children? If so, please either hand them into the main reception area or to one of the Reception class teachers; thank you!

Tapestry

Thank you to those of you that have returned your Tapestry consent forms to say that you are happy for your child’s pictures to be seen along with other children’s. If you still haven’t returned your form, please can you do this by Tuesday 9th February, so that we have enough time to set up the changes accordingly for the start of next half term.

I can hardly believe that we are almost at the end of another half term. Can I just remind you that we break up next Thursday 11th February at 3.45pm and that school will be closed on Friday 12th February for the start of the half term break. The children start back to school again on Monday 22nd February at the usual time.

Tam Broadway, Head of Primary

Notice Regarding Breakfast Club and After School Club

Can I please remind you that payment must be made in advance when booking a place for your child to attend either breakfast club or after school club. If you are having any difficulties with your booking, please contact Ms Rayner in the reception office. Thank you.

Learning this Week

Mathematics Mastery Parent Workshop

Thank you to those parent and carers who were able to attend the Mathematics Mastery workshop on Wednesday evening. It was great to see so many of you from both year groups. Thank you to Ms Curley for organising the evening and thank you to Ms Thomas and Mr Patel for their help. For those of you who were unable to attend and would like to read through the power point presentation, it is now available to view from the ‘Community’ tab on the website and then in ‘Resources for Parents’. We hope that you were able to take lots of practical and fun ideas away with you, to help you support your child at home.

It was great to see so many parents having fun as they used the concrete manipulatives to help them solve mathematical problems!

On Thursday Yusha led part of our Curie’s Maths Meeting. He asked the children questions about their

graph of favourite fruits:

“What fruit is the most popular? Well done Cameron, move your peg up!”

“What fruit is the least popular?”

“Which fruit has 3 (bars) coloured in Akbar?”

Great job Yusha!

The Reception children have been reading

‘The Other Ark’ this week and then had

fun making their own ark with imaginary

animals in the afternoon.

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above

At Home:

Having consistent messages between home and school is very important. Talk to your child about the importance of not hurting or hitting other children and that we need to treat everyone kindly and respectfully. We know that you have equally high expectations of your child at home as we at school and working in partnership has great strength in supporting your child to make good choices each day.
