Well, other than doing some research on the mile-high city they would be competing in, some of the teammates showed up a day early to scope out the city and familiarize themselves the best they could. Most women would like pearls for their birthday…but these three went for the whole Oyster…Oyster

Race that is!! Team “Storming the Castle”, is made up of 3 vibrant women in their 30’s from Phoenix,

Arizona who love to do different and exciting activities each year for their birthday. This year’s birthday

was no different. Because this team missed their hometown Oyster; Jill, Christy, and Kiri decided raise

the bar and challenge themselves and compete in a race outside familiar territory. Storming the Castle,

ventured all the way to Denver Colorado to test their skills in the Denver Oyster! How would a team

prepare for such a secret challenge you ask? Well, other than doing some research on the mile-high city

they would be competing in, some of the teammates showed up a day early to scope out the city and

familiarize themselves the best they could. Because this was Storming the Castle’s first Oyster Race these

women had little to know what to expect! Other urban adventure races that these women have competed

in have only allowed 2 person teams, so having a third partner really motivated these women and sent

them into the race with confidence! Jill commented, “Christy is stronger and has better stamina,  but I am

faster, so I set the pace and then she pushes me to maintain it.  Christy and I also think exactly the same.

Kiri is way smarter than either of us, so we let her be the brains of the operation”So with a perfectly

constructed team, this group of women cracked the Denver Oyster! Some of the women’s favorite

challenges were gettin’ wet on the slip-n-slip and hunting through the famers market. The women recall

one of their ‘uh-oh’ moments when one of the racers found out that they were competing in the Full

Oyster (20-30miles) right before the race started, the whole time she thought they were only competing in

the Half Oyster(10-20miles)… needless to say, the look on her face alone screamed ‘uh oh’. Though,

Storming the Castle was off to a confusing start they had a successful race finishing in a place they were

all happy with… not last!! These ladies argue that the key to their success was their amazing team

support person, like Christy’s hubby Jace, and of course never giving up! Adding to their success these

inspiring women rose over $600 for Make A Wish Foundation! Team Storming the Castle was clearly a

very impressive team of daring spontaneous women. We hope the Oyster Races can now become their

birthday tradition and we see them in 2011!
