Dear Families,
Welcome to all new students and families to East Torrens Primary, it is
wonderful to have you as part of our school community.
East Torrens is experiencing record enrolments, we are now at 390 students,
our highest ever number of students.
Some news for you about our teaching staff:-
Marc Johnson has won the position of Acting Well Being Leader (Student
Counsellor). Congratulations Marc!
This position is to replace Martha Pampoukidis who is working in the Southern
Education Office at the moment.
Marc’s replacement working in the Science department is Imogen Carruthers.
Welcome Imogen.
The other great news is that East Torrens Primary has been chosen by our
Education Department to feature in a video about our work in anti bullying
across the last ten years. Our school was filmed on Friday the 21st of February
by the media department to showcase our brilliant students and staff. We will
be featuring the video at our assembly on March the 20th to celebrate the
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.
Please put this date in your diaries as we
would love to see you at this assembly.
Kind Regards
Gael Little, Principal
As of the beginning of March all communications, such as

Greetings all,
My name is Marc Johnson and I am excited to have won the position as Wellbeing Leader for Term 1. You may have seen me around the school in my role as Mainstream Science teacher for the past 3 years. 2020 marks my 10th year as a member of staff at East Torrens Primary School so I have seen many changes throughout that time.
I am really thrilled to begin my role as Wellbeing Leader and help to strengthen the school culture around Community and Excellence with the other staff, students and leaders of East Torrens Primary School. One of my goals for this term is to establish strong connections with the school community through building Student Leadership Teams and providing more opportunities for Student Voice.
I am looking forward to working across the school in this role and developing closer relationships within the whole school community. Please take the opportunity to come and say hello if you see me around the yard or to come and make a time to speak with me regarding any future directions of the school.

EALD News
Dear Families,
The middle of the term is quickly approaching and all classes are working hard on their writing skills.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Melissa Ciufoli and my role is to support students
for whom English is an additional language.
This year I will be working across all Mainstream classes with class teachers to support students with
their reading and writing skills. I will also be working with small groups and individual students.
If your child qualifies for more intensive support with their English learning, a note will go home in the
coming weeks explaining the area of English your child will be receiving support with.
If you have any questions about your child’s English learning, feel free to contact me from Monday to
Friday.
Regards
Melissa Ciufoli R-7 EALD Teacher

Mathematics in M2 In M2 we are currently learning about place value. This week we have been partitioning numbers and finding out how many
different ways we can make the number 10 and above. We have also been learning about relative size by creating number
lines and using unifix cubes. Have a look to see what we have been up to!
Partitioning to 10
6 + 4=10
Partitioning to 10
8 + 2=10
Partitioning to 20
14 + 6=20
Relative size to 10 using number lines and unifix
cubes.
As part of our Biology content for this
term, classes are learning a range of
different concepts around the needs of
different living things, as well as the way
living things adapt to survive within
different environments. Here is an image
that makes us think about some changing
environmental factors to do with plants.
If you would like to conduct an experiment
based on the criteria listed please see Mr
Johnson in the Wellbeing Office between
Monday Week 6 and Friday Week 7 to
receive a pack.
There will only be a small number of packs
available and some additional purchasing
may be required.
