"The Unfolding Conference " took place from 23 to 26 October 2013 in Brussels at the Higher Institute for Gezinswetenschappen. This unique conference brought together hundreds of participants from all over the world : researchers, stakeholders and practitioners in the field who came to explore and discuss new practices and perspectives that enable children to develop their unique potential and engage in society. !

The European Delegation moderated a workshop Thursday, October 24 under the theme "Family as a living system". The discussion focused on the collaboration between parents and educators and the importance of the role of parents in education from the earliest age of the child. Practitioners from different countries expressed their experiences. !The objective of the conference was to create an opportunity for stakeholders from around the world to engage in a policy dialogue with regard to children and childhood and to create the foundation for a sustainable and successful collaboration between them. It was organized by the Alliance for Childhood and the Learning for Well-being Consortium with the participation of the Universal Education Foundation, IASWECE , ELIANT Eurochild and the Evens Foundation. !

The European delegation also intervened on November 18, at the annual conference organized by the European ELISAN network (European Local Inclusion & Social Action Network). This conference focused on the fight against unemployment, inactivity and exclusion. It was designed to promote and facilitate access and involvement of regional and local authorities in strategies, programs and actions of the European Union in this area. !In this context, the European Delegation put forward proposals and examples of grass roots actions that improve social cohesion. Other successful initiatives were presented on policies and legislation, which , on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family in 2014, promote and value the family as a productive player in society, as agent of integration and shield against exclusion. !On the other hand, the European Delegation was asked to become a stakeholder to hear the voices of mothers in the European research project FAMILIES & SOCIETIES to make mothers' voices heard. This participatory research project funded under the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union, was launched in February 2013 and will continue until January 31, 2017. !!The project's main objectives are : to study the diversity of family forms, relationships and life cycles in Europe to assess the compatibility of family policies with existing changes in families, to contribute to the development of evidence based policies.
