Éditorial par Justin Usher Le concert de rock organisé récemment au profit de l’association caritative ZOA illustre combien le collège du Léman est une institution mixte, où les étudiants externes et internes se mélangent de façon harmonieuse sur les plans artistique et social. On retrouve cela lors des évènements sportifs, où presque la moitié de l’équipe de football est composée d’élèves internes. La communauté des internes est également bien représentée dans les équipes de rugby et de hockey. Des évènements comme ceux-là, ainsi que le bal de la St Valentin qui a eu lieu cette semaine, nous rappellent que de nombreux aspects font de cette école une communauté à la fois soudée et dynamique. Choisir un type de voyage : randonnée, croisière ou visite culturelle, puis un mode de transport : train, voiture ou avion, enfin un hébergement : hôtel, tente ou bateau. Pour ce faire, les enfants consultent des guides touristiques et cherchent sur le net, aidés par les enseignantes. Une mini agence touristique est ouverte, chacun s’y rend pour acheter son billet d’avion et obtenir un visa. Bien sûr il faut préparer la valise adéquate et se rendre à l’aéroport. Surprise : plusieurs mamans ont revêtu un uniforme d’hôtesse, les papas jouent les agents de sécurité et notre salle à manger est transformée en aérogare… Les enfants enregistrent leur bagage aux guichets des compagnies aériennes : BritishAirways, Swiss Air ou Air France. C’est l’effervescence d’un jour de grand départ en vacances à l’aéroport de Genève. On vérifie son passeport, son billet, et que le doudou soit bien dans le sac, car on part pour un long séjour ! The second IPC unit for PS3 began with our Entry point:Visiting the travel agent, choosing a holiday and going to theairport.
We were very lucky to have had a large body of parentvolunteers who acted as security guards, check-in staff,passport controllers and flight attendants. The dining room hadbeen transformed into an airport!
Any onlookers would have thought it was for real. The childrenhad their passports, tickets and bags packed for their particularholiday. They waited patiently in line to check-in and aftergoing through security, getting their passports stamped theysat at their gate ready to board.
Over the next few weeks the children will “visit” variousdestinations around the globe to experience different types ofholidays. Watch this space…

PrimaireNous avons pu durant les 2 dernières semaines assister auxconcerts des CP et CE1 et admirer leurs performances tant auniveau choral qu’instrumental.
Les Grade 1 ont terminé leur thème d’étude sur les jeux pardes ateliers de construction de jouets tandis que les CM2bilingues commençaient à réfléchir sur les migrations depopulation.
Les CE1/Grade 2 ont réfléchi tous ensemble pendant uneassemblée aux règles à instaurer dans la cour pour que lesrécréations soient des moments de détente, agréables pourtous.
Mardi, ils ont pu écouter Anne Fine parler de sa passiond’écrivain et faire dédicacer quelques 600 livres.

PrimaryDuring the last 2 weeks we have had the concerts of grade 1and grade 2. We were all very impressed by their great singingand instrumental performances. Grade 1 finished their IPC topic of ‘Toys’ with a fun filled toyfair. The children participated in many different activities, allcentred round making toys.
Grade 5 started their topic of ‘Moving People’ with a thoughtprovoking exercise on refugees.
Grade 2 and CE1 joined together to discuss ways to make therecess a more pleasurable experience for everyone.

Middle SchoolPLP goal-setting:Our Grade 7 and 6 Middle School students have been meetingrecently with their Homeroom Advisors in order to establishtheir personal goals for their PLPs (Personal Learning Plans).These goals will be shared with parents on the Parent-Teacher-Student Meeting Day on Wednesday 20th March.The Grade 8 students will be preparing their PLP goals after SkiWeek. At the Student-Led Conferences scheduled in Juneduring the last week of school, each student will be able todisplay their portfolios to their parents and evaluate thesuccess of their PLP goals. Reminders about coming Parent Information Evenings:
For parents of students currently in Grade 7, thescheduled Grade 8 Information Evening will be onTuesday 19th February 2013 at 6pm in the EigerAuditorium.

The All Grade 8 studentswill also be travelling to Lausanne on Monday 4th March inthe afternoon to listen to an inspiring speaker, BertrandPiccard, a Swiss explorer and humanitarian. Again, we requirethe completed permission slips by this Friday.

Mock examinations and CTP 4 tests
IB and IGCSE mock examinations will take place fromMonday 18th to Monday 25th February in the CervinAuditorium. All students in the second year of the IB and IGCSEprogrammes will sit these examinations.Some students in the first year of IGCSE will sit their Frenchmock examination.During these six days students will have exam leave and willnot be expected to be in school unless they have an exam.Students will be expected to provide a medical certificate incase of absence from an examination; only in this case theexamination may be rescheduled.

National Honour Society
This week, the National Honor Society has begun a highschool tutoring program in order to help students in need.Therefore, the NHS has started collaborating with teachers andstudents from both English and French section. The differentNHS members have proposed themselves to help students invarious subjects that they excel in. As we all know, theNational Honor Society features very hard working studentswith high grades. We hope to be able to help as many studentsas possible.

Extra-scolaireLa période 2 se termine le vendredi 8 mars 2013. Lesformulaires d’inscription pour la période 3 vont vous êtreenvoyés par e-mail et seront également disponibles sur le siteinternet du Collège à la rentrée des vacances d’hiver, le lundi18 février.
Les élèves déjà inscrits à des activités qui continuentlors de la période 3 n’ont pas besoin de se réinscrire. Enrevanche, toute nouvelle inscription à une activitéancienne ou nouvelle requiert une inscription.
Nous vous proposerons de nouvelles activités et nous avons leplaisir de vous annoncer le retour d’anciennes activités. Lesinscriptions seront ouvertes du lundi 18.02.13 au vendredi22.02.13. Les activités de la période 3 commenceront le11.03.13. Si vous souhaitez changer d’activités, veuillez le fairedurant cette semaine d’inscription.

Extra-curricular
Period 2 will finish Friday 08.03.13. Period 3 registration formswill be emailed out and available on the CDL website the firstMonday back from winter break 18.02.13.
No need to reregister for activities that continue fromperiod 2. All activities that were not offered in period 2need to be registered.
There will be a number of new activities on offer in period 3and the return of some old one.
Registrations will be open Monday 18.02.13 – Friday 22.02.13and the period 3 programme starts 11.03.13. If you would liketo change your existing activity please do so during theregistration week.
All registrations or changes will be confirmed via email.
