PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Dear Families,

Peace Be With You

I had the pleasure of being present yesterday at the Leadership Speakers of our incumbent leaders for 2020 and was overwhelmed by the insightfulness and passion of these young people. Every Year 5 student stood proudly and spoke beautifully about the qualities they believe make a good leader and described how they reflect these qualities in their daily interactions and experiences here at Ss Peter & Paul’s. Each student spoke of our Learning Dispositions: Collaboration, Creativity, Resilience, Persistence and Communication and the importance of these in making our school the best place it can be for everyone. I was so impressed by the preparation, content and presentation of the speeches that I felt it worthwhile sharing with our community some of what was said. If this is an indication of what we can expect of our Year 6 Leaders in 2020, our school and your children are in good hands. Taken from the speeches of the incumbent leaders: “I would like to have a leadership role where I can be a mentor, guide and help other students in our school. I would like to give back to this amazing school…”

“I hope that I can help student's to fee safe and at home in this special place. Most of all I just want everyone to get the full experience of this wonderful school.” “I look forward to showing you my qualities and I am looking forward to supporting the students and helping this school grow.” “I am a kind, happy and sporty student and would love to share with all of you my love of this school and how happy it makes me feel to be here. The teachers are amazing. Our sporting spirit is fantastic and we learn a lot of things everyday.”

“I am a really kind person and would help anyone in need.”

“Persistent, I think everyone should be persistent. I push through tough times and try to finish my goals. I will always do what I need to do, …. I know I will get it done. I can also help people that need help in trying.”

“We have grown so much, learnt new things and come so far. I never thought I would be standing here sharing my speech with all my peers. Although it is quite nerve-wracking I am showing confidence and courage as a true leader would.”

“I really enjoy looking after and helping out other students, especially the juniors. It is my favourite time when I get asked to help out in the Junior School.”

“I love our school and every morning when I put on my school uniform I can’t help but smile and be proud of who I am. SSPP is like my family where I have over 100 brothers and sisters. “ “I am resilient and patient, I will always keep trying no matter what! If something is too hard, I will use some strategies or I’ll just keep trying.”

Warmest wishes, Trish Vandekolk

SCHOOL NEWS

Year Five and Sixes had a wonderful time at their

excursion to Schramm’s Cottage last week. During our Inquiry learning, we have been researching how inventions have changed our lives and our world. It was wonderful to see how far we have

come today.. We sketched what we saw, like in the old days before cameras or phones. We found this

tricky, it took such a long time.

SCHOOL NEWS

After our excursion last week we decided to be

creative in our writing. We had researched before our excursion all about Schramm’s Cottage. We

visited the cottage and obtained a real feel for what life was like and how far we have come in the

everyday inventions we use today...

The life of Max Von Shramm My name is Max Von Shramm, and I am a German immigrant, and came here to live a better life with my family in Australia. I teach my

eight children at my cottage alongside with my wife Kate. I have three girls Rachel, Rhoda and Ada, and have five boys , Joseph, Victor, Albert, Walter and Hubert. Our life is hard running our eight kids, but we deal with it. It takes a lot of time to cook meals only using a stove with wood,

and because we have no electricity, we must use our hands for everything, and do everything manually. I hope in the year 2000,

someone will invent a stove that will turn on without wood, or even cook itself. Or maybe even an electric mincer or bread slicer. Maybe even

something to use to even get around instead of horse and carriage, or something with a bigger engine.

Alisha (Year 6 Room 12)

Schramm’s Cottage Creative Writing I Mr Ashley von Schramm wrote this letter to tell you how

difficult it was living in this cottage. My wife Kate and I had 8 children altogether 3 girls and 5 boys. The girls, Kate and I

slept in the cottage while the boys had to sleep outside. Luckily we had a fly screen to stop insects, bugs and flies. I’m

sure it would have been really cold in winter and hot in summer. Most of our food we grew but the other food we

either walked to town or walked to the train station or bus or tram and we caught one of those. They really needed to have a bus or train around here they’re all so far away. As I ama a

German immigrant I set up a Lutheran School for all children of immigrated parents from Germany. The schoolroom is at the front of the house when you enter. Outside we added a wood burning stove and a well where you used the pump for the water to come out. Living in this cottage was very

hard for the ten of us as there was not a lot of room for all of us. I hope that in the 21st century that they have bigger

houses, running water, more bedrooms, automatic washers for clothes and dishes and stoves that you don’t need wood

to cook food. Also it would be great for more modes of transport instead of walking everywhere. I hope you get an

idea of how life was like when I was alive From Ashley von Schramm (By Ashley Year 6 Room 12)

Schramm’s ----------------------------=-----------------

Hello my name is Ilaria Von Schramm, I am married to Max Von Schramm. Together we have built a cottage to live in with our seven children and teach other Lutheran children.

We have been doing it pretty rough but then my husband invented all these different things to help out in the garden! I am very excited to see how his inventions will change the future!

Ilaria (Year 6 Room 12)

The Life of Martina Von Schramm I, Martina Von Schramm, a German immigrant, live in Schramm’s Cottage in Victoria Street. I

fled to Australia due to poverty. My cottage may not be the fanciest on the outside, but it is our

home, and we are proud of it. By we, I mean my family and I. I have a husband and 8 children.

Life nowadays is a bit tough, but we cope with it. I have opened up a schoolroom in my cottage, where I teach a group of students. We do not

have clean water facilities through the taps, but we were recently able to install a well. It has a

handle, which we use to pump out the water. We fill buckets each day, and use that to wash

ourselves , and drink from. Our food is either home grown, or sometimes, if we can, we will

walk to the nearest tram stop, and catch a tram to the supermarket. Hopefully, they will come up with a tram that travels at a quicker speed, and can carry more people. Perhaps they will come up

with some sort of machine that will wash the clothes, or even a stove that doesn’t require wood…. Who knows what crazy ideas or

inventions the future will hold….. By: Martina -Year 6, Room 12

PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE WORKING BEE—SUNDAY 1st DECEMBER—FINAL ONE FOR THE YEAR

We have our final Working Bee for the year planned for Sunday 1st December. This is a chance to prepare the school grounds for our Christmas Carols & Mini Market Night as well as doing some maintenance before the school holidays. The major task for the day is to mulch all the school garden beds to ensure weed growth is limited over the break. It would be great to have as many parents as possible attend the day with wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes in hand. Parents who have not yet attended a Working Bee so far this year, are strongly encouraged to lend a helping hand. Your involvement goes a long way in showing your children how you support them in their learning. A special call out goes to all the students and parents of our Graduating Class of 2019. Come along and do your bit! Everyone is welcome to help spread the mulch and contribute to the building of our wonderful community spirit. A CareMonkey request will be sent out in the coming week.
