YEAR 12 VCAL PRESENTATION DAY

The first of Newcomb Secondary College’s Year 12’s to finish this year were our VCAL class. They concluded

their education at Newcomb Secondary College on Wednesday 15th October with a presentation to their friends,

family and teachers as well as representatives from other schools.

Throughout this year the VCAL class has raised over $1300 in profit by running the Kopi Shop two days a week.

This money was then used to put together 150 care packages. These packages are designed to aid any secondary

school aged youth who becomes homeless. This is an ongoing concern in schools around Geelong and Australia.

Students are sometimes forced into ‘couch surfing’ or into other temporary accommodation which is classified as

homeless.

The primary purpose of this presentation was to distribute these care packages to a number of other schools in

our region. Representatives from Bellarine Secondary College, Western Heights Secondary College and Northern

Bay Secondary College all attended the ceremony and were grateful for the 30 care packages which they took back

to school with them.

The students also presented details of some of the other activities they had completed throughout the year includ-

ing an excursion to the aquarium, and building and placing extras bench seats around the school.

YEAR 7 SCIENCE - ZOO EXCURSION On Tuesday 4th November, all Year 7 students will be going to the Royal

Melbourne Zoo for a Science excursion. This is a compulsory excursion.

Going on Melbourne Cup Day, we can take advantage of free entry so we only

need to cover the cost of buses.

This is a great opportunity to have a great day and help celebrate students first

year at Secondary school.

Materials from this day will be linked to both the

students Science studies and also EASE studies.

Any questions should be directed to Mrs. Ruth Cusack (Science Learning Area Leader)

or your Science teacher.

Tours of the College’s facilities are available by appointment -

call (03) 5248 1400 or email [email protected]

CASUAL DRESS DAY

Thursday, 23rd October we will be holding a Casual Dress Day to raise funds for the Newcomb family whose

home caught fire and a boy sadly lost his life. Some proceeds will also go to State Schools Relief Fund who assist

many of our Newcomb students.

A gold coin donation or more (if you can afford) would be much appreciated to go towards these very worthy

causes.

Thanks to the school leaders and SRC for the Casual Dress day donation ideas.
