  • BOOKFAIR Congratulations to Zoe Shevlin, Abigail Hee, Tori Lobo and Jordan Walker.

    These students were the lucky prize winners of our raffle;

    each student won a book of their choice, a stationary item

    and a poster. This Book Fair was the biggest we have

    ever had; the Fairs started at our school in 1987 and have

    continued to provide good quality books and fun for our

    students and staff.

    Thank you for your continued support, this huge fundraiser

    enables the library to stock up on even more exciting books.

    The next Book Fair will be held in November with many new titles and

    Christmas specials on sale.

    =============================================

    Term Two in the Grade One Classroom This Term Children will continue to experience literacy sessions in point of need groups with a focus

    on understanding what we read or Reading is Thinking. We are concentrating on

    asking and answering questions, predicting and making connections, by using our

    prior knowledge. Our home reading program is going strong with the

    majority of children reading nightly and receiving milestone

    certificates for their effort, so thank you to parents for their

    support with this, as well as the practising of our weekly spelling

    lists. Our writing is improving with our V.C.O.P program and our weekly Big Write

    sessions. Some of the childrens writing has been published in the newsletter and

    on the school website so make sure you have a look. This term we are covering a

    wide range of Numeracy topics including, Addition, Multiplication, Location, Chance and Shape. Im

    sure your child would be happy to show you what they have learnt in these topic

    areas. For the past two weeks we have had a special focus on the changing

    Weather, creating a daily weather diary. Unfortunately the weather has played a

    huge part in the cancellation of our Seawinds excursion, which

    was planned to enhance our learning of the environment, in

    particular State Parks, Gardens and Wetlands, however we did

    managed to visit the foreshore briefly. Our exploration has led

    us to learn about living and non- living things as well as classifying plants and

    animals and investigating insects. We have studied the life cycles of many living

    things and our mini garden project will assist students in observing these changes

    in a plant. They will then present their gardens to classmates as an oral presentation to continue to

    develop speaking and listening skills. Thank you once again to our classroom helpers!
