Library News It is an extremely exciting time in the library. For the last 12 school weeks we have been working to ensure the data

in our old school library system will transfer to our brand new library system. This week was the changeover and I am

very happy to report everything has gone according to plan and we have started using our new system.

Oliver Library is our new system. It is designed to engage students in the library by providing fun and easy to use inter-

faces, as well as access to other data bases of information.

Oliver can be accessed wherever students have access to the internet, through their student portal home page. They

can find and reserve books in our library. They can also find books in Lake Macquarie Library and, if they are a mem-

ber, make reservations there too.

There are links to other libraries and Department of Education approved educational sites.

We are really looking forward to introducing our students to Oliver Library. If your child knows their student

username and password you might like to have a look at what is available with them.

Regards,

Ros Beard

Finding School Information We have many ways of reaching out to parents and community through the use of technology. We are streamlining

this process to make sure parents know where to find the information needed.

School App - This is used for reminders and urgent matters

Facebook - We use Facebook to celebrate learning and our wonderful community. Please make sure

your permission to photograph notes have been returned.

School Website - Access the school website for general information and links to school notes. The-

se can be downloaded and printed at home if necessary.

Our Community Liaison Officers will be phoning families this week to conduct a survey on these strate-

gies. We look forward to hearing your feedback.

Zone Swimming Congratulations to our Zone Swimmers who represented our school at the Zone Swimming Carnival held last week at

Swansea Pool. All students are to be commended on their behaviour and participation in their selected events.

Three of our students have been successful in gaining placement on the Zone Team and will swim this week at the

Regional Swimming Carnival to be held at Maitland.

Coby Hall will swim in the 50m freestyle, Backstroke and Butterfly as well as the 200m IM and the all age 100m Free-

style. Annika Potter will compete in the 50m backstroke and Josh Gibson in the 50m Butterfly. Congratulations Coby,

Annika and Josh and Good Luck for Regionals.

All missed dance lessons will be made up on another day to be advised.

Office requests If you would like to receive your Newsletter in full colour each fortnight via email, please ensure that your request

form is completed and returned to the office as soon as possible. Also a reminder that Asthma Action Plans are to be

returned to the office promptly if your child suffers from Asthma.

A parenting workshop survey is being sent home today to assist us in providing future learning for parents/caregivers.

Please complete the form by Monday 6th March and return to school or alternatively, you can complete the questions

on our Facebook page.

To ensure that we are holding up-to-date contact details for all families, please complete and return the contact infor-

mation sheet which was sent out earlier this term. We also require the permission to publish forms (green form) as

soon as possible.

Working With Children Check Thank you to all in our school community that have already supplied us with their WWCC number or alternatively

have completed the Statutory Declaration that is available from the office. If you are volunteering in any capacity with-

in the school, please ensure that you have completed the necessary paperwork, including the 100point check as this is

now a DEC requirement. Forms are available at the front counter if you have not already done so.

Book and Magazine Donation Some classes would like donations of magazines. Sports magazines are of particular interest, particularly Rugby League.

Please send them to 3P classroom for Mrs Parsons to organise. Kinder would also appreciate any sensory style kids

books. Any books with touchy feely pages or bath books would be fantastic. The "That's not my......" style books would

be perfect. Please send any of these to Mrs Hoscher's KH class-

room.

Well Done Mallory Mallory Pearson donated 37cm of her hair to Variety—The Chil-

dren’s Charity recently, where her hair will be made into a wig.

Canteen It’s been great to see some new volunteers in the Canteen over

the past few weeks. We really appreciate you giving up your time

to help out and the kids love seeing a familiar face around school.

There are still vacancies on our roster and we would welcome any

help, even if just for a few hours at a time. It all helps to keep our

Canteen open.

Please note that we are not selling Sushi at the moment on a

Thursday as we previously had been. Keep an eye out for some

meal specials throughout the term.

There is a copy of the current Canteen Menu on the website for your information.

Parent interviews are on this week with all of our Stage 1 teachers holding meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday after-

noon. Please go to the school library for these meetings and remember to bring along your “My Child” questionnaire. If

you have already handed this in, the classroom teacher will bring this document along for you.

A few reminders for upcoming events;

Hunter Life Education Permission Notes and Money are due in. This excursion will be taking place in week 8.

Term Invoices were due on Friday 24th February, we will be handing out text books to students that have paid on

Monday the 27th February.

All extra curricula activity notes and money for Dance, Guitar, Drumming, Aerobics are due in.

What’s happening in 2B?

We have had an excellent start to the year and students are settling in to their new class with enthusiasm and smiling

faces. We have been looking at ‘The Past in the Present’ and have enjoyed many discussions, pictures and a tour of the

school history walk.

Students have enjoyed using their creativity to design a scratch pattern into a black and rainbow mask. We have been

reading some exciting stories that relate to feelings including ‘Feathers for Phoebe’ and ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. It

has been excellent to see students so enthusiastic and engaged during discussions about these ‘marvellous’ ‘fabulous’ and

‘fancy’ stories. Just ask them about some of these words.

Remember to fill out student Home Reading logs with the number of nights they have read (as an accumulative total) and

hand them in on Friday of each week. I would like to ask all students to bring in a personal whiteboard marker and

whiteboard eraser to use on our mini whiteboards for reading and maths activities. Please remember to clearly label all

of your child’s equipment and clothing. Thank you to the families who have already sent in boxes of tissues and waterless

hand sanitiser. These supplies are greatly appreciated and go to excellent use throughout the year.

What’s happening in 3W?

3W has had a great start to 2017. As a new teacher to WBPS I have felt welcomed by the students and they helped me find my bearings. The class is really developing a great relationship and everyone is working well together to achieve success. We are also having lots of fun with loads of laughs shared throughout each day. We have been very busy learning how to plan and write narratives. Students have been working on how to capture the readers’ attention by having an engaging start to their stories. They have also been exploring how they can use adjec-tives in their orientation to help the reader get a clear image of the characters and setting. The class have really taken these lessons on board and I am really enjoying reading their creative stories. Our next step is editing our stories and giving each other feedback. Mr Winter

It has been an amazing start in 5W at Warners Bay Public School for 2017. We

of the new things I am learning about them each day.
