NEWSLETTER 2017
Hello Folks
This year in The Studio has zoomed by so quickly.
We have had a number of Showings and Discussions on a Sunday afternoon which
have been fun and entertaining.
Please contact the Studio on 4632 8644 if you are interested in attending next year’s series. You are welcome to bring a friend or 2 along if you wish. We like to
keep you all up to date and find out what your Design “requirements” are. We have been convincing our clients that Design is all about developing a Design
Scheme that reflects your own personality & Lifestyle… NOT about copying any particular Designer or Decorator which I have witnessed regularly in the Industry
this Year! A knowledgeable Designer should not need to do that. Let us Lanes
develop your INTERIOR to suit YOU and YOUR Lifestyle. We will look forward to seeing you in 2018. We are still open after hours by
appointment for your convenience
DESIGN & DÉCOR MELBOURNE 2017:
This year we attended Design and Décor in Melbourne. We managed to discover many new
trends and found some wonderful Design pieces. Unique /Interesting and more Natural
Design is in this next year! Brass is the NEW metal – silver metallic will re-surface in 2018.
Powdery Pinks are very now with golds and greys along with corals and Nudes – these will
be fading venturing into 2018.
Accessorise with these colours in Furnishings rather than permanent fixtures. There is still a
strong Earthen Luxury desired by all of us as life is so hectic and driven by Technology.
Organic materials & traditional handicrafts will gain momentum. We need a sense of
wellbeing which will influence everything.
RATTAN & CANE:
I love Rattan and Cane – reminds me of my Childhood & Gladly inherited some
proper Manilla Cane from My Mum which I still have.
It is tough and durable and really suits the less pretentious look that is
preferred at present.
Dress it up with some Beautiful Washable Linens and Printed Cushions. It is
available in Natural, Tea Stain, White or painted in any colour.
WASI SABI. (Japanese philosophy in finding BEAUTY in
IMPERFECTION) is the go .
People are preferring things worn-giving more character and
texture …… Crackled effects, weathering & oxidisation. Dark
woods and Earthy tones are back. There will be a shift away from
Blonde woods and the Scandinavian Look- Rosewood, Walnut,
Mango wood along with Charring effects will be popular.
WINDOW FURNISHINGS:
Curtains are returning with a vengeance both in plains, and patterns Some are opting for pattern but most enjoying floaty, natural
Linen Sheers. Phone Jennie to give you the most creative, suitable curtain option. She will also help with your heading and track options.
We have an enormous range of samples to work with.
We still provide numerous options of Blinds and Shutters – along with our
Fabric Roman & Roller Blinds.
SOURCING FURNITURE & UPHOLSTERY:
Can’t Find that special piece of Furniture? Jennie can find anything for you and we also can
provide Custom Lounges and Chairs. We can even send you to the factory to have your sofas or Chairs Custom
made to your required measurements. Along with this
we can organise all your Upholstery and re-vamp your
old furniture.
WALLPAPER:
We have huge ranges to choose from. Do make an appointment and come in and select from our
library. Our Customers at present tend to be using wallpaper more as a feature wall - not on all walls
in a room.
COMMERCIAL WORK:
Yes, we are still doing some wonderful Commercial projects. This year the Highlight in this area was being chosen by Kaloma Home in Goondiwindi to do their whole Design Project from all their Hard Finishes to the complete supply of Window Furnishings, Furniture and Fabrics for their new 32 Bed Extension. The complete installation was completed earlier in the year. It was a rewarding and Challenging project with a great end response. Great care was taken to give the facility a more fresh, homely environment. Thank you to Penni Roberts C.E.O. & the Board for trusting me to fulfil their project.
DULUX COLOUR DESIGN:
Need a Colour Designer? Jennie has been a Colour Designer for many years and covers all aspects of Colour Design for both Residential and Commercial projects. Phone Dulux on 132 525 to book your appointment.
WHY USE AN INTERIOR
DESIGNER?
An Interior Designer can see Design
Mistakes the Average person cannot.
Using a good Designer can save a fortune as Interior Design is an
Investment. After Years of Experience they learn many Design Secrets and
are able to read Personalities, Tastes,
Lifestyles and then inject them into your Design schemes. Experience
is a BIG Plus in this industry. We have celebrated 34yrs of Business in Lanes
this year! Please make an Appointment to come
into our Studio for advice or to view
our fabric & wallpaper Ranges. We still offer an FREE measure & quote on our
basic blind and curtain Ranges. A design fee is only charged if Jennie is
required to put a Design scheme
together for you.
CHRISTMAS BREAK Close: Friday 22nd December

2018
Our phones will be re-directed to our mobile over the break so please phone our Normal No. 46328644 if you require any Design & Colour Advice or
Window Furnishings.
LONGEVITY is the New Go
DISPOSABLE is out……… Woo
Hoo!!
Select strong basic pieces – a
Signature Sofa, Bedhead or
Sideboard. You can keep them
for ever.
People are finally realising that
Cheap and Cheerful is not
worth spending on.
Neutral Colours are still the Go
– Use colour in Special Lamp -
Shades or Cushions to RAMP
things up.
HIGHLITE OF DESIGN AND DÉCOR 2018.
This Year I attended the Tim Street - Porter Seminar. Why would I attend another when he is so
world famous?
Tim studied Architecture in London before becoming an Architectural and Interior Design Photographer.
He works with fabulous magazines including Architectural Digest, World of Interiors, German Elle
Décor, Australian Belle and others.
He has written several books produced by his Designer wife Annie Kelly. He is a Multi Award
winner in his field. His books include Design of Los Angeles, Casa Mexicana and many others. He is the
chief photographer for Annie’s Books. He photographs fabulous works by Famous Interior
Designers as such…… Martyn Lawrence – Bullard,
Rose Tarlow, Robert Couturier, Nancy Goslee - Power, & Oscar Niemeyer.
He loves visual surprises and not predictable design. He also swings towards Modernist Styles.
Jennie thoroughly enjoyed his most Informative,
imaginative & interesting lecture. She was especially intrigued by one of his houses where one of the
James Bond movies was shot.
A very Merry Christmas to all our clients and Colleagues
and have a wonderful Successful 2018!
