The Poutama Tukutuku Panels in front of our whare on each side represents Tāne o te Wānanga who climbed the stairway to the goods and retrieved the baskets of knowledge. For those of you who don't know our whare’s name is Te Whare Wananga o Taeotu...In reference to Tāne. The Poutama also represent the learning journey of every akonga and kaiako in Taeotu. The Poutokomanawa in the middle represents Whakaue who is at the top, Tutanekai in the middle and then us Ngā Uri o Taeotu at the bottom. The Stars represent “Matariki” the Matariki cluster up on the right side corner is positioned there to look over all the other stars. Each star has the pepeha of each akonga in Taeotu as we in Taeotu whanau hold strong to our Identity as our whanau Whakatauki says “Ko ngā ākonga kai te whatumanawa”. “ākonga are at the heart of everything”.

Te Roro o te rangi Whanau

Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi engari he toa takitini taku toa. My strength does not come from my individuality, my strength comes from many. This whakatauki is written on the side panels of our house board because this belief is what holds our whanau together. When we work together, we are stronger than when we do our own thing. The board is made up of many single pieces and each of these shows our creativity as individuals. When the pieces are placed together it creates an artwork that symbolises our ability to collaborate. Of course the main colour on our board is blue but did you know what the colour blue symbolises? It is the colour of the sky and the sea and represents loyalty, confidence and intelligence. It is peaceful and calm. Orange represents joy, creativity and success and we chose to include that on our board to catch attention and stand out in a positive way. Our koromatua, Te Roro o te Rangi was a leader who was confident and strong but he also knew when to show mercy. He stood out as being a great speaker, for showing courage and for his resilience. We hope the board we have created symbolises these qualities and gives us something to live up to.

Tunohopu Whanau

Naku te rourou, nau te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi. With your basket and my basket the people will thrive. This whakatauki is about how if we all help each other we can achieve great things. That if we share what we have and work as a team then everyone can benefit and we can all move forward together. This is the whakatauki that Tunohopu has chosen to show collaboration. One of our Habits for Learning goals is collaboration. On our whanau board we showed collaboration by literally putting all our hands together on the board. But no hand is the same because they all have different things on them that we like. Some of them are food, sports, fortnite, music and more. However, these things all together represent a lot of great knowledge that between us we can all share. Tunohopu collaborates with each other by helping each other to grow and move forward. We share our baskets of knowledge and skills and recognise other’s strengths that may help our weaknesses. This collaboration helps Tunohopu to thrive as a house, as we know that singularly we will not get very far, but together we can all reach our full potential. Noak Crabtree Tunohopu 5

We have been practicing linked handwriting concentrating on slope and letter formation.

We have been practicing our times tables to increase the speed of our recall.

We were learning about the orbits of the Earth and our Moon.

We looked at the moon every night and watched it move through its phases. This is Boston’s chart.

We focused on poems to enhance and expand on our writing ability. By understanding and taking the time to craft poems that carry deeper meanings, we are able to explore ourselves as confident writers.

For our inquiry, we focused on an New Zealand artist that we can research and recreate their iconic piece with a splash of our individuality.

Tunohopu Five

Are there any NZ Artists that you

recognize?

Tunohopu 5 were extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to code their own flight path for drones. Everyone was focused and showed great care with high tech gear. It was brilliant to see how our students were so adaptive to new learning experiences.

You may see some of our posters around Rotorua Library. Make sure you keep an eye out for them when you are there next!
