Outram School Newsletter Volume 1 Number 3 18 February 2010
Hello everyone,The Twilight Mardi Gras is going to be quite an event on Saturday
evening! There are a massive number of events, stalls, and
performers planned to be happening in different places around the
school grounds. There has been a tremendous amount of community
support and most families are helping out in some way or another. A
big thanks to all those who have volunteered their labour, contacts,
goods and services to the organising committee. We literally
couldnt do this all without you.
Our professional learning programmes are well in place for 2010 as
well as classroom programmes for the children. In order for our
children to be the best they can be we need to have our teaching and
support staff also being the best they can be. This involves asignificant investment by the BoT in professional learning for staff.
This year we have a focus on writing programmes as well as
secondary focuses on maths and our ICT programmes. Each year we
set goals related to student achievement and monitor how our
learning as a staff is having a direct outcome on the achievement for
children in the chosen areas.
We have high expectations for the children at Outram School, as we
know so do parents. We expect children to achieve and do well. We
also expect them to challenge themselves outside of the academic
arena and to explore their potential in the arts, sciences and in
physical activity. We also want Outram School children to be honest, reliable, show courtesy and consideration towards others and exhibit
all the social skills, empathy, etc that will make them worthwhile
members of our community as they get older. This is an essential
part of the Outram School Vision that is captured in our logo that
appears on the front page of each and every newsletter. It is why we
celebrate a wide range of achievements in our assemblies and in
many other ways. It is why we have the Allen Centre and the
wonderful programmes that pervade our classrooms and wider
programmes coming from this space. It is why we have the extensive
physical activity programme we do. It is why we believe in children
being inquiring as a key skill and why the Inquiry model is how weconduct our topic time.
A key component of childrens learning is the relationship between
home and school. If children went to school 24/7 from the beginning
of January the school year would finish before the end of February.
Home influence on learning is significant and children learn so much
better when we are all working together and towards the same goals.
Coming up we have the class meetings where we will outline the
class programmes for the year. This will also be a time to meet
teachers and ask any questions about how things work at school.
Please diary this now and make the time to come along.
Have a safe and happy week!

Yahoo! Not long now, guys! Thanks a million to everyone who is helping, youare all making a huge difference in how successful this Mardi Gras will be.Everyone that comes to our school will be able to see what a great communitywe have and how supportive our parents are. If it is wet we still go on. Fingerscrossed the day is gorgeous. We still have a few things we would like help withand they are:
Mystery Jars: We have about 100 mystery jars but it would be fantastic tohave lots more! If you havent made a jar before, it is simple! Fill a clean jar(size of a jam jar) with goodies that your children would like to receive. It is thatsimple. It doesnt need to be expensive I found some little cars my boys werepast playing with, a funky eraser and a few lollies etc. The kids love the jars,
they go fast and it is a good money spinner for us. If you havent made one ortwo, we would very appreciative if you could make some and bring them to theschool office.Picnic Tables: We could do with more picnic tables for our Mardi Gras and ifanyone has any they can lend for the night, that would be most appreciated!Wooden Chopping Board: In the Pizzeria area we are going to need largewooden chopping boards to cut the large pizzas. Could we borrow them for thenight, please? Another thought we would love to have a big pizza cutter tohelp speed up the pizza process. Are we lucky enough to have anyone outthere that has one, and could you lend it to us for the night? Contact: AlexMorton on: 4862525.
A special thank you to my Captains of Industry: Kellie Bain and RebeccaMitchell who have been working tirelessly to make this Mardi Gras happen. Alsoa huge thank you to the teachers, staff, pupils and parents of the school wemake a great team! We are all getting a bit on the tired side but we are nearlythere!
Last but not least, have a brilliant time Outram School. Kellie and I hope you allenjoy this Saturday and we look forward to seeing you all having a fantastictime at our schools Twilight Mardi Gras. A BIG Cheers to you all!
