SIXTH FORM OPEN EVENING
From September 2013 a range of AS and A Level courses will be
available at St Bedes and plans are already advanced in
preparation for this. Sixth Form information, the Admission Policy
and Application Form can be found on our website, with a full
prospectus available from the College.
We would like to invite any Year 11 pupil who is studying at St
Bedes and their parents to our Sixth Form Open Evening on
Thursday 22nd November from 6.30pm
8.30pm. The purpose of
the evening is to offer an insight into the organisation of the new
Sixth Form, its culture and ethos. There will also be the
opportunity to meet with the teaching staff from individual
subject areas.
This is such an exciting development for St. Bedes in the year of
our Golden Jubilee and if you would like further information
please contact Mr Strange, Head of Sixth Form at the College.
ECO NEWS
The School has once again
achieved the Green Flag Award.
The Eco Group and Eco Committee
have worked so hard this term to
achieve this. May their good work
continue!
The fortnight of 19th to 30th November is 'Switch-Off Fortnight'.
The Eco Committee will be running activities during break and
lunchtimes to raise awareness about saving our energy resources
throughout the fortnight.
GCSE ART PUPILS VISIT TO MSHED
On Wednesday 7th November, GCSE Art pupils were given the
opportunity to attend the exhibition 'Real and Imagined Lives' atthe MShed, Bristol. The exhibition, on loan from the National
Portrait Gallery in London, explores the space between what is
real and what is imaginary, as well as examining the idea of
'identity' looking specifically at well-known characters with Bristol
connections. It is a combination of 16 and 17th century portraits,
contemporary photographic portraits and works by local authors.
There is also a space for visitors to create their own portrait and
display it alongside others as part of the exhibition. Eddy Nichols
(year 10) said: ''It was surprising to see the many different people
linked with Bristol, I also enjoyed trying to work out which parts
of the writing were real and imaginary. The older portraits
interested me the most, because nobody really knew the true
history behind the work and in some cases who the person was.''
CONGRATULATIONS TO ELPIDA HADZI-VASILEVA
We are delighted to hear that Elpida Hadzi-
Vasileva the wonderful artist who created
the Golden Tree named Transpire in our Art
block has been selected by the Ministry of
Culture in Macedonia to represent
Macedonia at the 55th International Art
Exhibition, la Biennale di Venezia. She has
been commissioned to create new work for the exhibition in
Venice next summer, working with curator Ana Frangovska and
the National Gallery of Macedonia.
CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
Tutor groups in years 10, 11, 12 and 13 will be collecting items of
food to go into Christmas hampers that will then be taken to the
Julian Trust Caring at Christmas project. The Julian Trust is a
project run in St Paul's that offers food and accommodation to
people who are on the streets. Our food contributions will go
towards ensuring that those vulnerable people who are homeless
at Christmas will at least not go hungry. A few tins or a bag of
pasta can really make a difference when everyone contributes
something. For a list of items that the centre have specifically
asked for, please look at the poster which your tutor should have
- remember no perishable items please. Further information
about Julian Trust can be found on their website:
http://www.juliantrust.org.uk/
Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Year 9 Boys Football progress to Round 5 of the National Cup
Well done to the Year 9 Football team who beat King Alfreds
Sports College at Burnham on Sea yesterday afternoon 4-3.
Despite being 2-0 down after ten minutes goals from Iwan

increasingly famous charity aims to raise funds and awareness for

E-SAFETY TIP
According to Ofcom, nearly half of children aged 5-7 have a games
console in their bedroom, rising to seven in ten 8-15 year olds.
Some games consoles, like the Xbox 360, have a timer so that the
console switches off after the allowed time. UKIE, the body that
represents the interactive entertainment industry in the UK
recommends that all games should form part of a healthy and
balanced lifestyle and recommend that games players should take
five minute breaks every 4560 minutes.
