ALL HALLOWS IS AGAINST BULLYING We would like to remind students and parents that our website has links to an anti-bullying email service. [email protected] is the email address that can be used to confidentially report incidents of bullying to a senior teacher. Students are also encouraged to report bullying to their form tutor and Year Learning Leader. We would also like to thank our College Council for their powerful anti-bullying video they have recently produced. This can be found on our website and on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_mdTYLbWVQ . Each year our College Council do a large scale bullying prevention event across All Hallows and this year's video is certainly impressive. In the past they have organised on line pledge against bullying and even had a airplane fly over the College at the same time our students were on the fields spelling out the words All Hallows is against Bullying.

E-SAFETY FOCUS GROUP

We would like to set up an E-Safety focus group of parents. This will involve 3 meetings a year where we will look at E-Safety and identify

any risks. We will then develop actions that we can implement to minimise the risks. If you would like to be part of this group contact Mrs

Williams at college either by phone or email: [email protected].

ATTENDANCE PRIZE DRAW The College is pleased to announce that our attendance rate is currently 95.5% (an increase from 94.1% at the same time last year). This is excellent news and students will certainly benefit from the extra time being spent in lessons. We must not let attendance slip over the last few weeks. We are having a prize draw for any student between Year 7 to Year 10 during the week commencing 23 June 2014. All students who have 100% attendance during this week will be entered into a prize draw and one lucky winner will win £50 worth of vouchers for Amazon to spend as they wish. Students will also win group prizes for their form classes regards attendance in the next celebration assemblies which will be held in July.

CAREERS ADVICE FOR STUDENTS Our new careers advisor, Mrs Jean Pilling, has now seen 202 students for impartial careers interviews since she started in mid-December - 17% of the whole College. If any parents would like their son or daughter to have a careers interview this year then please notify the relevant Year Leader who can ensure names are added to the list. Priority is now with Year 10 who will all be seen over the coming weeks and months. She will also see some Year 9 students over the next few weeks. She has a drop in on Thursday lunchtime for students of any year.

RECOMMENDED READS

Boys Don't Cry by Malorie Blackman

You're about to receive your A-level results and then a future of university and journalism awaits. But the day

they're due to arrive your old girlfriend Kendra turns up unexpectedly ...with a baby ...You assume Kendra's helping

a friend, until she nips out to buy some essentials, leaving you literally holding the baby.

We are always hearing about young single mums, still kids themselves, whose boyfriend’s do a runner upon wit-

nessing the positive pregnancy test, or after the novelty of a newborn wears off. But what happens when it’s the

dad left holding the baby after the mum runs off because it’s all too much? We rarely hear about that.

That’s what this book aims to address and change

In the Bag by Jim Carrington

Joe and Ash are best friends. Ash is the leader, Joe the one who follows. Then one night after a party, Joe and Ash

come across a holdall, seemingly abandoned by the side of the road. They open it up ...and find £20,000 in cash. Of

course they're going to hand it straight to the police. Aren't they? Or is all that money just too tempting? Whoever has

lost it won't notice if a bit goes missing, will they? And that is precisely when the trouble starts ...Jim Carrington has

already established himself as a fine writer for teens with his debut novel, Inside My Head. With In the Bag, he shows

how horribly easy it is for two teenage boys to make a car crash of their lives, through an unlucky combination of

being in the wrong place at the wrong time and making a handful of wrong decisions.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS Over the last week of College attendance was as follows:

Year 7 - 96.1% (up 1.7%, well done Year 7)

Year 8 - 96.5% (up 1.2%, well done Year 8)

Year 9 - 93.7% (up 1.0%, well done Year 9)

Year 10 - 96.3% (up 1.6%, well done Year 10)

Year 11 will not be on our stats from now onwards due to official study leave.

This was an excellent week. The average for the week was 95.6% (up 2.6% on the

previous week). Since 3rd September attendance has increased 0.3% to 95.8%. We

aim for 97%.

Last week GIRLS attendance has increased 3.1% to 95.3%, BOYS attendance has increased 2.4% to 96.0%. Since 3rd September boys

are winning girls 96.3% to 95.2% but the gap is closing!

Parents are politely reminded to avoid absence unless it is absolutely necessary. Thank you for your on-going support regarding medical absence and

holiday absence.

Holiday absence from College

Holidays have not been authorised since 1st September 2013 under new legislation on all English schools. Requests for holidays must still be made in

writing to the appropriate Key Stage leader (Mrs Garvey KS5, Mr Blades KS4 and Mr Diamond KS3), but in the vast majority of cases they will be unauthor-

ised. A Fixed Penalty Notice may be issued of £60 per parent / carer per student, to be paid within 21 days, otherwise the penalty will rise to £120 per par-

ent / carer to be paid within 28 days. If the penalty remains unpaid then the matter will proceed to the Magistrates Court where you will receive a criminal

record if you are found guilty.

Medical absence from College

Whilst the College requires parents to contact us on each day of absence , school policy now requires that any student who accumulates 7 or more days of

absence during the course of the academic year will be asked to provide medical confirmation of the need to be absent before any further absences are

authorised for medical reasons. This is a necessary measure as we closely monitor absence due to illness / medical reasons in order that we can ensure

students are supported where needed.

For your information medical confirmation does not have to be a doctor's note but can also take the form of a medical appointment card, a copy of a rele-

vant dated prescription or evidence of medication being taken

If no medical evidence is provided then the absence will be coded as unauthorised. Ten or more unauthorised absences may result in you receiving a Fixed

Penalty Notice. This incurs a penalty of £60 per parent / carer to be paid within 21 days, otherwise the penalty will rise to £120 per parent / carer to be paid

within 28 days. If the penalty remains unpaid then the matter will proceed to the Magistrates Court where you will receive a criminal record

if you are found guilty.

The link between attendance and achievement is well researched and documented and students should be aiming for an attendance rate

of no less than 97% over the year. Thank you for your continued support with this importance issue
