Medical Mission Opportunity to Maua, Kenya, December 2013Information meeting - Tuesday, November 27, 6 p.m., South Conference Room

We are looking to recruit medical professionals (doctors, dentists, and nurses) to be part of a medical team to The Methodist Hospital in Maua, Kenya from December 28, 2013 - January 7, 2014. Church of the Servant has been connected to the hospital through Stanley Gitari who came to visit our congregation in 2009. We have supported the hospital financially, but this team will be the first that Servant has sent to Maua. They will go to explore a partnership we can continue to develop. The cost of the trip is $3600. The first meeting will be held Tuesday, November 27 at 6 p.m. in the South Conference Room. Ann Knutson is the team leader and can be contacted at 348-5546 for questions.

A Very Important Look at Scripture! On Sunday, October 28, we were asked to turn in our annual stewardship pledge

cards. Here is a little Bible study for those of us who struggle with giving.

Why do we give?We give because God gives to us. Our giving is a response to God’s generosity.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever be-lieves in Him wouldn’t perish, but would have eternal life.” John 3:16.

Does our giving matter in our relationship with Jesus? Yes! Jesus asks us to focus on giving. “In everything I showed you that by work-

ing hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ” Acts 20:35.

How much should we give? “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house,

and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows. Malachi 3:10.

What are Jesus’ standards for giving?“And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the people were putting money into the treasury;

and many rich people were putting in large sums. A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on.” Mark 12:41-44.

How should we give?“Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all

your work and in everything you put your hand to.” Deuteronomy 15:10.

Is it important for a Christian to help others by giving? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed

and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? James 2:15-16.

How does the Bible summarize giving?“Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8.

Cookie Dough SaleChildren’s Ministries will be selling cookie dough on Sunday, November 11 in the Main Concourse. Boxes of 48 pre-portioned

cookies will be available for $15. Varieties include chocolate chunk, peanut butter, sugar, oatmeal, snickerdoodle, white chocolate macadamia nut and monster; just know that some varieties may be depleted, as the cookie dough was also sold on November 4. These are great for holiday baking. Funds raised from the cookie dough sale help support the children’s camping program.

Fall Festival 2012 Another fabulous Fall Festival was held on October 26 at Church of the

Servant. What made it so fabulous was that Everyone worked together to pro-vide a fun-filled, memorable evening for Church of the Servant members and residents of the community!

By Everyone, we want to include Adult Sunday school classes, Warm World and Starbright staff and families, Choir members, other Individuals – all who supported the evening activities by donations, working a game shift, baking a cake for the cake walk, working in the Hot Dog Café, providing home-made goodies for the bake sale, arriving on Friday morning to decorate the building, staying late on Friday to help clean-up, the Therapy Dogs and their Trainers who encouraged the children to love and tug on them, and those spinning the cotton candy and popping the popcorn, etc.

Whoever you are, and there are many of you, A Big Thanks! And a special thanks to Katy Leffel, who again coordinated the Fall Festival activities.

Estimate of Giving Commitment CardThis card represents a tangible opportunity to worship and serve God through

generosity. When we return a portion of our financial blessings to God through our tithes and offerings, we invest in God’s vision and mission, and we create an oppor-tunity for God to work through us and through our church. Giving literally changes lives in our church, our community, and our world!

If you have not done so already, please complete the 2013 Estimate of Giving Card below and return it in the offering plate on Sunday or to the church office. We ask that everyone return an Estimate of Giving Card, even if you can only make a limited financial commitment at this time. You can always increase or decrease your commitment if your situation changes by calling our Finance Department at Church of the Servant, 405-721-4141.

Electronic Funds TransferPledges paid through Monthly Bank Draft and the use of a Credit Card are both a convenient and reliable

way to fulfill your financial commitment to the church. These methods are also the most cost-efficient means of giving to the church since they reduce administrative costs and help maintain a predictable cash flow. To choose either of these methods, simply complete the information below.
