The acquisition of the Barakuda is a further platform for the growth of Seascape Surveys. Since the purchase of the vessel she has safely and successfully carried out projects for Conoco Phillips, Global Industries, Kangean Energy and Chevron. The Barakuda brings exciting new opportunities to Seascape Surveys allowing us to enter and compete in the ROV, hydrographic, geophysical, geotechnical and environmental markets in both Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region. I am sure we are all up to the challenge of these new opportunities and with the training required and experienced gained, the benefits both professionally and personally will be immense. I look forward to meeting up with all of you in the very near future. I do make the commitment to promoting and encouraging HSE, ensuring the future growth and success of Seascape Surveys and last but not least to the safety and well-being of all employees and contractors of Seascape Surveys.

Seascape Surveys Jakarta Office Opening Ceremony

On Friday 22nd October 2010, PT Seascape Surveys Indonesia celebrated the opening of its new offices in Jakarta with a party to show off the new premises. Despite heavy rainfall that evening, many guests turned up and enjoyed a lively and vibrant evening. The staff of the Jakarta office hosted the evening, with the ladies wearing matching Kebaya dresses and lovely smiles. The event took place between 7pm and 10pm. A varied selection of food was provided including Italian, Indonesian and Western. There was also a bustling drinks table with a wide selection of drinks. Despite the downpour, the party was a huge success and all who came had fun. The office has now been officially opened and we hope the coming months and years will be as successful as the party.

Evacuation Drill in Jakarta Office

Finally, we organized Evacuation Drill in our Jakarta Office, on 14 January 2011 at 15.00, we heard the alarm sound, all of us in the office walked slowly including our top management and toward to muster point in front of our office. At the same time, we found Budhyarto (as an injured victim) in a pantry, we brought him into the safe place, outside the office and our first aider team (Dista, Tono and Nasution) gave him some help, we called Medic One as our primary contact for medical emergency and followed their instruction to help the victim, After 15 minutes, Paramedic motor (Fast 2) arrived and took over the treatment, in 3 minutes later Paramedic ambulance arrived and transferred patient to the ambu-lance and brought the victim to nearest hospital.

On the last week of December 2010, We organized Basic first aid training for our office staff, with 6 drivers and 3 staff participants. It was our first time training for all our drivers and they were followed the training so well. The trainers from Medic One were experts on their field and gave a lot of knowledge to share with participants.

Basic First Aid Training for Office Staff

Personnel involved in INPEX project, one of the longest project ever under-taken by Seascape, received onsite refresher training on First Aid. This was done to ensure that all personnel involved have good awareness on how to act in case medical emergency occurs. It’s a very good initiative from our onsite Supervisor and HSE Representative. Our medical team from Medic One acts as the trainer. We all hope that we can finish the project smoothly and safely. Great work everyone!

IT Knowledge

The Virtual World

Many Sci-Fi Hollywood movies we see use concept of Vir-tual Reality. Like “The Matrix”, “Surrogates” and the lat-est TRON: Legacy. Ready or not, it gets closer to reality. In IT, Virtual world is already a reality. In the last few years there is a technology called Virtualization. Simple way to say Virtualization is, you can have another operat-ing system (Windows) inside a working operating system (Windows) or PC inside PC. Virtualization Technology will emulate the physical PC component, so the OS will think that it is stand on regular physical PC. The common end user use of Virtualization is for testing and compatibility issue while most of uses are on servers. Like we know, Windows 7 Professional has a feature called XP Mode, which is run on Virtual machine software called Microsoft Virtual PC. It is a normal Windows XP where you can install and run files. You can try to run your program on XP mode that can’t be run on Windows 7. There are some major Virtualization software for PC :

Microsoft Virtual PC VMware Player Sun VirtualBox

While for server:

Microsoft Hyper-V VMware ESX Citrix XenServer

Each comes with its own pros and cons.

The major advantages of using Virtualization is :

- Physical Hardware Consolidation, where you can put more Computer inside a computer, more hardware utilization. - Can deploy multiply even different OS on single hardware platform ( Windows 7, Linux, Windows XP ) - Easier for Backup & Recovery, as your Vir-tual Machine data stored as an Image, like a Ghost Image. You can easily copy to anywhere and boot it up immediately.

My PC Screen Shot , Running Microsoft Virtual PC, on Windows XP. Will it possible to run Virtualization for Offshore projects? I would say there is a possibility. Though we still we need to do more through testing, research and familiarization to this new technology and check software and hardware compatibility. For now, you can use the Virtualization for edu-cation purpose on your PC, testing up software, application without make the real OS get dirty with the installation however you will need to acquire additional license for using the Virtual Microsoft Windows as it is treated as a new PC. For simplest thing, just use Microsoft Virtual PC. My mailbox is open for further discussion (created by [email protected])

Seascape Surveys Training

SS Barakuda

Between the 15th February and the 18th February 2011, eight participants took part in Sonardyne in house USBL/LBL training conducted by Sonardyne own James Hope

Incident Investi-gation Report in house training with 12 partici-pants and

management team also involved on December 2010 and Hazard Identification Risk Assessment with 9 participants on February 2011 conducted by Eko Sriwibowo from Zenith

At the end of 2010, Seascape Surveys Indonesia have a vessel which formerly ownership of the Mermaid Offshore Services. The name of the ship before is Mermaid Sup-porter, since it was purchased Seascape Surveys Indonesia turned into a SS Barakuda. This vessel has a length of 39 meters, a width of 8.5m and 2.8m draft making it suitable for shal-low areas or to deeper regions within, which also has 30 beds for 3 deck levels. 4 beds at upper deck/bridge deck, 8 beds at main deck, and 18 beds at lower deck. This vessel is very versatile because can be used for air diving, survey and ROV/Inspection survey, the body of vessel proven by the existence of A-frame of 10 tons, the moon pool amid USBL performance, and optimal decks for other survey tools installation. ROV Lars launcher at starboard side of the vessel, one single pole with double branches for Multi beam and single beam transducers at portside. The survey room at bridge not big, but enough to operate, comfortable position to oversee vessel crew operation, and advise it.

Internet running 24 hours without any interruption if ves-sel moving/rotate and soon, and using good speed that enough to send and received large file from or to shore. In addition to its use of multi-use, the boat is equipped with omni-directional bow thruster or called by name schottel thruster. Purpose of this bow thruster, the ves-sel can function like a DP vessel, if the captain and crew experts and know how to operate it. At the stage has operated several time, there are for Kangean Indonesia, Chevron Balikpapan (Indonesia) and Global Industries. All projects work successfully, without any accident or incident, the operation of the ROV and survey tools work well, the vessel is functioning optimally. SS Barakuda are preparing for challenging projects in the future; including projects for Exxon Mobil in Russia, hopefully in the future SS Barakuda will be more success-ful and proud of Seascape Surveys.
