Meadows School Newsletter 06 February 2015 February has certainly been a busy month at school – and a real highlight has been the Multicultural Week which took place just before half term – “celebrating our differences from around the world”. These whole-school theme weeks are always very popular with everyone and the children have created some beautiful work, which is now on display all around school. As well as finding out about different countries and cultures, the children learned about the positive messages around diversity and produced some lovely art work related to this, for example: Thanks to Mrs Collins and Ms Bromage for organising such an enjoyable week for all the classes. The school crossing issue continues – I have had a letter from Derbyshire County Council telling me about the consultation which has been launched. You are invited to give your views via this link: www.derbyshire.gov.uk/schoolcrossings This consultation will close on 21 April and the results will be analysed and used to provide a report for Cabinet to make their final decision. The recent parent/teacher evenings were well attended. This time, as requested by parents, the appointment sheets were available in the school entrance for a longer period (i.e. three weeks in advance) to allow plenty of time for booking appointments. I also put a reminder on the home page of the school website, in newsletters and via text. Despite all of this, some of you were unable to attend. Please do contact the relevant teachers and arrange a separate appointment so that you can feel well informed about your child’s progress – teachers are very happy to talk to parents at any time, so don’t hesitate to get in touch. We are pressing ahead with our plans to introduce electronic systems for home- school communications, ideally to include online payments, letters via email and parents’ evening bookings. I know this will be popular with many parents and I have had very positive feedback about the proposal. Snowflakes are just like people No two are the same Odd socks rock At Meadows! Meadows School Newsletter 06

February 2015

February has certainly been a busy month at school – and a real highlight has been the Multicultural Week which took place just before half term – “celebrating our differences from around the world”. These whole-school theme weeks are always very popular with everyone and the children have created some beautiful work, which is now on display all around school.

As well as finding out about different countries and cultures, the children learned about the positive messages around diversity and produced some lovely art work related to this, for example:

Thanks to Mrs Collins and Ms Bromage for organising such an enjoyable week for all the classes.

The school crossing issue continues – I have had a letter from Derbyshire County Council telling me about the consultation which has been launched. You are invited to give your views via this link:

www.derbyshire.gov.uk/schoolcrossings This consultation will close on 21 April and the results will be analysed and used to provide a report for Cabinet to make their final decision.

At Meadows!

Welcome diversity

into your life,

It will be so much

sweeter

Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this

world together

The parent focus group – has now had its last meeting and I am very grateful to everyone who was able to come along and meet with me to discuss all sorts of aspects of school life. I would really like to continue to meet with parents in this way, so I am putting out an open invitation to drop in to a

“Headteacher’s coffee morning”

Friday 20th

March at 9:45am in the spare classroom, immediately following the

Sparrows class assembly.

All parents are welcome, tea, coffee and cake provided. If this proves popular, I’ll aim to hold a similar event once per half term, varying the day and time to suit as wide a range of parents as possible.

Appeal for help – this request has come from Sally Whittingham:

“Sports Spectacular 2015

I am looking for a volunteer(s) to take on this year’s Sports Spectacular event, held on the Wednesday evening of Carnival week. Alongside a small team, I have organised this fun event for the last 3 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a super event, loved by all the children, which requires only a couple of meetings beforehand and complete hands on for a couple of hours during the evening. There is a file available with all the steps required leading up to the event and on the actual day. If you are interested, but would like to find out more information before committing, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Many thanks

Sally Whittingham”

If you are interested, please contact Sally direct, or if you don’t know her just call school and we will put you in touch.

Thanks to you all, as ever, for your continued support for the school as we work together to make our school so successful for the children.
