Season opening of the top travel destination Rhodes by Austrians
According to an article written
by Elisa Hübel in “Griechenland
Zeitung”, holidaymakers from
Austria have opened the tourist
season on the island of Rhodes
again this year. As reported on
the homepage of the Dodecanese Island Municipality, the first charter flight of this year
landed on Vienna's "Diagoras" airport on Sunday (31st March).
The approximately 100 passengers were also welcomed by the Philharmonic Orchestra of
the island. Guests from Austria have also received information material, herbs and
traditional sweets as gifts. Afterwards Deputy Mayor for Tourism Mariza Chatzilazarou
stated: "Rhodes is one of the safest top travel destinations in the world." The Austrian
Embassy and the recently opened Austrian Honorary Consulate in Rhodes with Honorary
Consul Maria FIROGLANI-MOSCHI firmly believe that "with such a warm welcome many
Austrian tourists will surely become enthusiastic Rhodes vacationers".
GREETINGS BY THE AUSTRIAN AMBASSADOR
Dear friends of the Austrian Embassy in Athens,
The Austrian Embassy in Athens is pleased that Greece is one of the
top destinations for Austrian tourists. In the period from January to
September 2018 alone, a growth of 30% was recorded and we are
approaching half a million. The trend continues to increase and is
made further possible by the many summer destinations that
particularly Austrian Airlines fly to from Austria. The fact that
Austrians are particularly welcome in Greece in the sense of the
"Philoxenia", which is so typical of Greece, was recently demonstrated
by the warm welcome Austrian holiday travelers received at the
opening of the tourist season in Rhodes - even the Philharmonic
Orchestra of the island played on their arrival.

In order to be able to support Austrian tourists in the best way even in case of unexpected
events, such as earthquakes, an inter-ministerial delegation from Austria in April examined
the preparations and plans for crisis management in Greece in the sense of an exercise and an
exchange of experience and visited Athens and Thessaloniki as well their Greek partners on
Kos and Rhodes.
On the 13th of May we will celebrate the opening of the Greek-Austrian Music Summer in
Thessaloniki, which will take place for the fourth time this year. In addition, at the end of May,
the jazz ensemble "Month of Sundays", which was selected for the NASOM young talent
promotion program of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Jazz division, will be
performing in Greece. A total of 24 concerts are planned at 14 locations from May to
September within the framework of the Austrian-Greek Music Summer. We will report more in
the next issues of our newsletter and would like to invite you gladly to attend our concerts.
This year, too, the main theme of the Greek-Austrian Music Summer is the joint music-making
and the expansion of the bond between the Austrian and Greek artists. The Austrian Embassy
is very honored by having again been granted the auspices of the Foreign Ministry of the
Hellenic Republic for the Greek-Austrian Music Summer, thereby showing its appreciation for
our cultural initiative. We are looking forward to the numerous summer concerts, which will
take us once again to the most diverse places in Greece in order to deepen the friendship
between Austria and Greece musically.
With my warmest regards,
Ambassador Andrea Ikić-Böhm
