XIME STUDENTS CROWNED NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AT ALL INDIA MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION, NEW DELHI, 2017

All India Management Association (AIMA) conducted its prestigious National Competition for Young India (NCYI) between 3rd to 24th November 2017 across Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai and Delhi regions. The Grand Finale for the winning teams from the regions was held in New Delhi.

NYCI was launched in 2003 and is rated as one of the top competitions on the calendar of graduate and post graduate students and institutions in the country. It is organized with an objective of growing horizons, not only of management students but also for students from all disciplines. This is a unique platform for budding young managers to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity, experience and professional power to become ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’.

Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME) has been associated with this competition since its inception and continued its winning streak at NYCI this year too.

Ms.Kamala Sundaresan and Ms.Jessica Mathias of XIME, Bangalore emerged national champions at this prestigious contest on 24th November 2017 at the grand finale held in New Delhi, Mr. Arup Das and Mr. Apurba Mukherjee of XIME, Bangalore bagged the runners up trophy. The theme for the presentation was ‘Our Idea and Action Plan for a Developed India’. They had competed against 12 regional winners from the North, South, East and West regions to bag the national championship. XIME is proud of its young achievers and wishes them all the best in their future endeavours.

XIME STUDENTS STEAL THE SHOW IN SINGAPORE

CRANIUM is the Management Fest organized by CMS Business School, Jain University annually at Bangalore. Mr. Nikhil Jain of XIME-B bagged the First Prize in the Marketing Event and Mr. Krishna Thakkar bagged the First Prize in the Best Entrepreneur Event at the regional events held in Bangalore. Both students won a fully sponsored trip to the Grand Finale in Singapore organized from 29th October to 4th November 2017. After 4 rounds of presentations, Mr. Nikhil Jain and Mr. Krishna Thakkar won the first position in Marketing and Best Entrepreneur Event respectively, competing against some of the best teams from across the Country. Thus our students added another feather to the winning habit at XIME and have made us all proud!

THE WINNING STREAK CONTINUESAt Rajagiri B-School, Kochi - Mr. Santhosh Kumar and Ms. Ramya R were winners of the CSR Event at INFLORE ’17, the Management Fest organized at Rajagiri Center for Business Studies during 6th & 7th Oct 2017 in Kochi.

At Jain University, Bangalore - XIME was Overall First runner-up in Cranium ’17, the Management Fest organized by CMS Business School of Jain University, Bangalore from 12th to 13th October 2017. The individual competitions won by our students are:

• Best Entrepreneur – Mr. Krishna Thakkar won the First Position and a sponsored trip to Singapore for the Grand Finale.

• Marketing Event – Mr. Nikhil Jain won the First Position and also won the sponsored trip to Singapore.

• CSR – Mr. Santhosh Kumar won the First Position• Cultural events – Ms. Simona and Ms. Sharon won the First and Second Position

respectively.• Operations Event – Mr. Kunal Joshi won the Second Position.• Business Quiz – Mr. Vernon Rocky & Mr. Yash Jain won the Second Position.• Synergy event – where all domains have to work together, XIME won the Second

Position.

At PES Bangalore - XIME Bangalore Students won the Overall Championship at Calypso, the Management Fest organized by PES – Bangalore South Campus on 14th October 2017. The individual competitions won by our students are:

At NITTE , Udupi - Ms. Karthika and Ms. Kamala won the First Position in the Strategy Game organized as part of ETTIN, the Management Fest organized by NITTE, Udupi from 13th to 14th October 2017.

At XIME, Kochi - The individual competition won by our students in Quest’17 , the Management Fest organized by XIME Kochi from 20th to 21st October 2017 are:

• Marketing Event – Mr. Govind B, Mr. John Joseph, and Mr. Rony V S won the First Position.

• Finance Event – Mr. Apurba Mukherjee, Ms. Diksha Sharma, Mr. Arup Das and Ms. Priyanka Singh won the Second Position.

At Cusat, Kochi - Mr. Aswin, Mr. Ashish Joseph, Mr. Ananthram K, and Mr. Abdul Wajid won the First Prize in the Marketing Event in Talentime 34, the Management Fest organized by Cusat from 26th to 27th October 2017.

XIME Kochi students retained the overall championship at the same event this year too bagging majority of the prizes.

At AMITY Bangalore - Ms. Arpita Pande won the Second prize in HR Event in Arkio’ra 2.0, the Management Fest organized by Amity Bangalore from 13th to 14th November 2017.

At Christ University, Bangalore - The individual competitions won by our students in Chrizellenz’17 the Management Fest organized by Christ University Institute of Management from 17th to 18th November 2017 are:

• Business Plan – Mr. Ananthram K & Mr. Aswin M S won the First Position.• Marketing – Mr.Ashish Joseph and Mr.Nikhil Jain won the First Position.• HR – Mr. Saurabh Arora and Mr. Sagar Choudhary won the First Position.• General Management – Mr. Apurba Mukherjee and Mr. Pratik Rao won the First Position.• Finance – Mr.Vernon Rocky nd Mr. Yash Jain won the Second Position.• Business Quiz – Mr. Allwyn Philip and Mr. Abdul Wajid won the Third Position.

At ICFAI, Bangalore - Mr. Abhishek Maniraj and Ms. Muvya Vidya Dharani won the Second Position in the HR Event in IBS Fest, the Management Fest organized by ICFAI Business School, Bagalore from 24th 25th November 2017.

At Kristu Jayanti Management School, Bangalore - Mr. Pavan Kumar and Ms. Arpita Pande won the First Prize in the HR Event, and Ms. Diksha and Mr. Angel won the First Prize in the IT E vent in Synectics 2k17, the Management Fest organized by Kristu Jayanti School of Management from 24th to 25th November 2017.

At XIMERA 2017, XIME Bangalore - Mr. Deepak Diwakar & Mr. Nikhil B of XIME Kochi won second position in the Operations event while Mr. Karthikeyan and Mr. Jayanthan won the second position in CSR Event.

At DCSMAT 2017, Vagamon - Mr. Chintalapudi Satya, Mr. Dhiraj Changia, Mr. Deep Raj Singh & Mr. Siddharth Lenka won the Second position in Marketing Event on 14th October 2017

At NIT, Calicut - Mr. Deepak Divakar, Mr. Reuben Thomas, Mr. Gokul and Mr. Manoj Chilkuri won the the Best Management Team title and Mr. Sourav Agrawal, Mr. Gourav Agrawal, Mr. Utkarsh Sharma and Mr. Kishan Mundhra won the Finance Event on 9th October 2017.

NEW DIRECTOR @ XIME BANGALORE Dr. Moorthy Uppuluri has joined XIME as Director of the Bangalore Campus on 29th December 2017. And Fr. George Sebastian resumed the Director's position at XIME Chennai. Before joining XIME, Dr. Uppuluri was the MD & CEO of Randstad India, a Dutch MNC well-known for HR consulting and had held leadership positions in Microsoft & GE. An engineer by training he had obtained MS from Northern Illinois University, MBA from Spring Hill College, USA and a Ph.D. from University of Hyderabad.  He will bring in a great value add to XIME in the areas of teaching and training in general and in research, consultancy and institution building in particular. 

DIRECTOR, XIME KOCHI SPEAKS AT SEVERAL CONFERENCES

Dr. Manoj Varghese, Director XIME Kochi, was a resource person for several conferences including the International Conference on “Access to Information and Communication Technology” at National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi on 12th October 2017; the MDP on “Strategic Transformation and Leadership” for ITI Limited at IIM K on 30th November 2017; the MDP on “Managerial Excellence Programme” for Electronics Corporation of India Limited at IIM K on 8th December 2017; International Conference on Commerce & Management in the Changing Times organized by Post Graduate Department of Commerce on 23rd December 2017; session “HR

Analytics & HR tools” as part of the certificate course on HR Re-Skilling conducted by NIPM Kerala Chapter on 30th December 2017.

Fr. Dr. George Sebastian resumed the Director’s position at XIME Chennai, after looking after this function at XIME Bangalore during 2nd term of the year. CHAIRMAN’S DAIRY KMA conducts Business Success ForumKerala Management Association (KMA) started its Business Success Forum, a lecture series bringing successful entrepreneurs of the state under the KMA roof. Prof. J. Philip, Principal Founder and Chairman, XIME Bangalore inaugurated the event. In his inaugural address he said ‘India should follow the business path of Germany, Switzerland and Denmark and Entrepreneurship skills should be developed in students at their younger age’. AVA Group of Companies Managing Director Dr. A.V Anoop explained how company’s ‘Medimix’ became a world’s best-selling ayurvedic bath soap. KMA President Mr. Vivek Krishna Govind presided over the meeting.

Column in Business Line Business Line, an economic daily of The Hindu has brought out on 30th December 2017, a special feature titled “CAREER PATH – A FOCUS ON EDUPRENEURS” on management education in India. An article ‘India needs strong academic managers’ an interview of our Chairman, Prof. J. Philip was the highlight of this feature. He was also extensively quoted in the other articles published therein apart from prominently projecting our vision to be among the top 20 management institutions of India.

THE 22nd ALL-INDIA RANKBusiness India, a top Business Magazine of the country, in its December 18-31, 2017 issue has ranked XIME as the 22nd Best B-School in India. XIME was previously ranked by the same magazine at 25 in 2016, and 39 in 2015. The impressive progress in XIME’s ranking over the last 3 years is a testament to the quality of the PGDM programme at the Institute, its placement record and significant achievements of our students. XIME aspires to be within the top 20 ranks by 2020.

XIME FACULTY RETREAT XIME organised a 2 day Faculty retreat during 25th to 26th November 2017 at Ramee Guestline Hotels and Resorts, Attibele, Bangalore. Faculty from all 3 campuses and top management team of XIME gathered in the resort to take stock of the progress made on key Institute’s goals, undertake a SWOT analysis and brainstorm on the various initiatives and programs that can be done to leverage XIME strength, address key weakness and exploit opportunities available, with the aim of reaching the vision of being in the Top 20 B-Schools of India by 2020. Two days witnessed intensive small group discussions, presentations of the findings, action plan preparation and open fora. However, it was not all work. Faculty members also unwound through various outdoor games (cricket, basketball, shuttle, badminton etc.) and dinner get-togther.

This was followed by Christmas cake cutting by our beloved Chairman Prof. J Philip. The highlight of the evening was X-SEED’s science laboratory equipment donation to Chatrakhane Higher Primary Government School, Chandapura. XSEED students mobilised a fund of over Rs. 80,000/- from friends, families, XIME faculty and through online crowd sourcing platform Milapp.org. XIME Management added topping to the initiative of XSEED by contributing another 1.2 lakh to the money collected for this project. XIME enlarged on the original vision of XSEED to buy good scientific equipment for the school in setting up a good quality science laboratory in the Government School. This gesture of XIME Management and the XSEED Club truly exemplified the spirit of Christmas - Caring and Giving to those in need. It was an eventful evening that came to an end with the Santa Claus spreading the joy of Christmas.

Santa Came Early to XIME Kochi As usual Santa made it a point to visit XIME Kochi very early!! Well this time we had the fortune of having three eminent personalities as dignitaries for the Christmas celebrations at XIME Kochi on 6th December 2017, namely President, Mr. P. C. Cyriac IAS (Retd); Chairman Bangalore, Prof. J. Philip; and Chairman Kochi, Dr. J. Alexander IAS(Retd.) The evening was lit with carols and Christmas stars everywhere. President urged everyone to spread the spirit of love and sharing and joy in his Christmas message. The highlight of the day was a skit on the birth of Jesus. To add to the spirit of the festive season, the faculty and the administrative staff of XIME Kochi together rendered a carol, which was a surprise gift to the students.

MDPS/EDPS/OBPS/FDPSLeadership Development Programme for Senior Executives (DGM & Above)-NLC India Ltd A customised 4-day residential Leadership Development Programme for 3 batches (total of 60 participants) of senior executives (DGMs and above) from NLC India Ltd was organised at XIME Bangalore during November and December 2017. The training covered a wide array of topics including Interpersonal Relations/ Inter Personal Influence, Passion for Achievement / Result Orientation, Planning and Decision Making, Business Acumen/ Cost & Business Orientation, Active Passion for Learning, and Change Management/ Driving Success with Change. The programme had both theoretical sessions and practical workshop. It was well received. XIME will also be organizing similar programme for 6 batches (210 participants) of chief managers of NLC during January and February 2018 at Neyveli.

Introduction to Cloud, Big data, IoT and AI MDP on ‘Introduction to Cloud, Big data, IoT and AI’ was organized from 15th to 16th December 2017. Dr. M V S Peri Sastry, was the Programme Coordinator. MDP on Finance for Non Finance ExecutivesXIME Kochi organized an MDP on Finance for Non-Finance from 19th to 20th December 2017. 12 participants from various companies including our neighbours Start Up Village. MDP on Transformational LeadershipA two-day MDP on Transformational Leadership was organised from 23rd to 24th November 2017 at XIME Chennai Campus, Oragadam. Dr George Sebastian, Director and Former Dean of XLRI was the key resource person for the MDP. The programme was designed to take a deep look into oneself and understand and transform one’s leadership style to develop high performing teams. It was also intended to bring out the best in oneself and others. 16 participants from global companies located around Oragadam including Komatsu, Tempel, Delphi, OBO, BMW and Momentive participated and gave a very positive feedback on the design and administration of the programme.

Text Analytics using R-studio and Gephi The programme was designed to provide participants with the necessary background to do systematic literature network analysis by adapting graph theory metrics by using tools such as R and Gephi. MDP was held at XIME Chennai from1st December to 2nd December 2017. Dr. Pachayappan, Faculty, XIME Chennai was the key resource person for the MDP. 14 participants including Research Scholars/Faculty from XLRI, IIM-K, VIT, PSG, SRM, VELS, Pondicherry University and Chief HR Officer-Royal Sundaram attended. MDP was well received and a repeat programme is planned in February 2018.

Case Method TeachingThe purpose of this programme was to introduce the case method to corporate trainers and B-School faculty who are new to the case method of teaching, and to provide an opportunity to those with some experience of case teaching to share their views and strengthen their understanding. Prof. Raymond Arogyaswamy was the key resource person for the MDP organized at XIME Chennai campus between 11th and 12th December 2017. 14 participants including Faculty from Bharat University, MCC Boyd, PSG, Sairam, MOP Vaishnav, Sairam and Loyola attended the MDP.

PLACEMENT UPDATES Placement Week at XIME was organized from 18th December to 22nd December 2017, during which 86 students were placed. 16 students accepted Pre Placement Offers from various companies in which they did their summer internship and 5 students were placed through pooled campus placement drives organized by Mahindra & Mahindra and Orient cement. 107 of 279 students (38.4 %) were recruited by 26 companies as on 31st December 2017. The Highest salary till date is 11.5 lakh per annum and Average Salary package is 7.13 lakh per annum. Partial list of recruiters this year include KPMG, Deloitte USI, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, VMware, HDFC Bank, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, ICICI bank, Aptech ltd, Federal Bank, Aye Finance, Alstom, Mahindra & Mahindra, Honey Well, Hunger Box, etc. Placement at XIME is in full swing and 90% of students are expected to be placed by 30th April 2018.

INDUSTRIAL VISITSOrganization Visit to Mphasis Software DateA section of students of Chennai XIME undertook an Industrial visit to Mphasis Software on 27th November 2017. During the visit, our Students were addressed by the company’s AVP HR Mr. Sharavanan, the AM HR Mr. Sourrendere and the Latest Technology Expert Mr. Sakthivel. The students understood the holistic functioning of a modern Software company and the latest consumer technologies that are bound to shape the future lifestyle of societies.

Industrial Visit to Lennox India Technical Centre.A section of students of Chennai XIME undertook a visit to Lennon India Technical Centre on 29th November 2017, during which, the senior functionaries. Mr. Prem Babu – Director, Mech Engineering addressed the students explaining in detail, the intricacies of HVAC Market and the role of IOT, Machine Learning, Automation which was an eye opener for our students. The Senior Manger HR – Mr. Sam explained the HR Policies of Lennox India that made our students realize the criticality of Employee Morale in Company’s Success. Also the Technology & Risks of doing offshore captive processes was elucidated to our students along with a hands-on demonstration of the Testing Centre facilities of the company.

Industrial Visit to BEMLStudents of batch 23 made their way to BEML, KGF campus on the 14th November 2017. BEML is a popular public sector undertaking and its full form is Bharat Earth Movers ltd. The company is known for its proficiency in sectors of Defence transport vehicles, earth movers, and manufacturing of Metro coaches.

The students were given a lengthy tour of the sprawling 200 acres+ campus. They were shown the welding division and the assembly division. Post lunch, the students were taken to the truck division and the crane division. The students were left spellbound after witnessing the sheer magnitude of the processes and projects BEML has undertaken. The company has a massive order book, as expressed by the management. This visit was helpful for the students as they brealized how a PSU actually works. The huge number of workers and sheer magnitude of the projects was something many of the students had never seen.

Industrial Visit: Coco Cola PlantA few students of Batch 23 visited the Hindustan Coco-Cola Beverages Ltd on the 2nd December

2017. The students were taken around the well-designed factory with many banners carrying the plants staunch belief in Standard Process Management (STP).

This unit produces both carbonated and fruit beverages in PET and glass bottles. The plant has 6 assembly lines 2 used for fruit-based beverages and 4 for the carbonated drinks. The first line produces 155 bottles per minute while all other lines produces 600 bottles per minute.

While the beverages are produces in the factory, auxiliary materials and the bottles are procured from Coke approved suppliers in and around the country. The glass bottles are reusable and therefore the company’s supply chain ensure that all the bottles are returned to the factory where quality standards are checked before reuse.

The peak time of summer witnesses the highest production. The production of 1 litre beverage requires 1.6 litres of water. The plant claims to Zero water wastage as the water used for cleaning purposes are treated and reused while effluents are incinerated and supplied to cement factories.

The plant also has an efficient waste management system where wastes are segregated as hazardous and otherwise and then sold to vendors. The waste plastic has also been made into T-shirts. Hindustan Coco-Cola Beverages Ltd is all set to launch a new product called “Smart Water” which is said to be the purest form of drinking water, priced at Rs. 50 for 750 ml.

Other Industrial Visits Various sections of the XIME Bangalore students regularly visit Industries as part of their curriculum. The student interact with senior Managers and Directors of these organisation to understand how various management principles and processes they have studied in their classrooms, are practiced. These visits are also designed to help students get insights on various unique strategies adopted by organisations to combat emerging industrial and company specific challenges. XIMERA 2017On 10th & 11th November 2017 XIME Bangalore organized a management fest XIMERA 2k17 Reloaded. The theme of the fest was “Hollywood: Red Carpet to Success”. Each club was supposed to choose a movie on which they would base their events.

Dribble ’n’ DunkXIME Bangalore conducted an inter-collegiate Basketball and Football tournament, Dribble ’n’ Dunk, as a precursor to XIMERA, its annual Management and Cultural Fest. Held on the 14th and 15th October 2017, the tournament witnessed a footfall of 180 players with 22 teams participating from various colleges from Bangalore, Hosur and Chennai. The teams that won the first and second prize for basketball were Hustlers and TP Bois respectively, both participating from Christ University. The team from BMS College bagged the first prize for the football match while Christ University (Kengeri Campus) were declared Runners Up. The two-day competition was indeed a true display of sportsman spirit, teamwork and pure talent.

HRudayThe HR club’s “Into the Woods” was a daring journey for each of its eleven participants comprising of 8 interesting rounds. The Quiz was a challenge to test their speed in giving right responses. With rounds like negotiations and skill building testing their ability to convince, comprehend and choose, they were led deeper into the woods where they encountered and solved a tricky case study with respect to recruitment. The woods got even competitive when each of them were challenged to design an organisational structure for a hotel in another planet. The video round asked each of the participant to describe a role in a minute testing their knowledge about the subject and how well they can communicate it in a short span. The fight to win became more intense the second day with the best four teams competing in events like taboo, treasure hunt daring them to relate and answer each and every challenge hurled at them. The final test in the IR round stressed the participants with various real-life situations in order to differentiate the best from the rest. The winners of the challenge was the team from TSM Madurai and the first runner up was the team from Christ Kengeri.

X-Oration The public speaking club choose the movie The King’s Speech. The 2 days were divided in 7 rounds, 4 on the first day while 3 on the second day. 13 contestants from colleges like Christ University, XIME Chennai, XIME Kochi, TSM, SIAS, SIBM, Jain University, CMS Business School & Welingkar had participated. Rounds such as Flip Challenge, Shipwreck, Extempore and Motivation were conducted which tested the students’ ability to talk on topics based on situational analysis, speeches where they can motivate people. An overnight task was given to students to prepare a summary of the speech which was supposed to be presented the next day. Christ University was the winner of The Kings Speech.

MarkXimeMarkXime, the Marketing Club of XIME Bangalore chose the movie The Godfather. The club conducted its events by engaging participants in 5 challenging rounds over the 2 days. Day 1 began with a challenging PR Round, a grueling Greek Parliament round and a Selling round, all testing participants on

their communication and negotiation skills. Participants were engaged in a Marketing Quiz round and an Ambush Marketing round on Day 2 which challenged their knowledge of concepts and general functioning of Marketing Managers. The Finale of ‘The Godfather’ consisted of participants presenting a business plan. TSM Madurai emerged winners of the Marketing event, while Jain University was declared Runners-Up.

FinitiativeA total of 13 teams participated in these events. Every team had two members. A total of 5 events played out over the two days, and the first event was the finance quiz. The quiz was conducted on a website called Kahoot.com and was a closely contested event. This event was succeeded by the flagship event of the club, known as ‘Lock, Stock and Negotiate’. The second day saw two events being hosted, Street Strategy and Case study. The last and final event was a tough case study event in which all the teams were given a case study to solve, and this case put all their Finance skills to test. The teams were given one hour to solve the

case and to come up with a feasible solution.Finally, the winners were decided by averaging and accumulating scores of all the events. SIBM- Bengaluru was awarded as the best team after this process. The events were engaging and interactive and participants and the organizers both enjoyed these events to the fullest.

X-OPSThe XOPS club of XIME hosted their flagship operations event “BREAKING BAD” as part of XIMERA. The six rounds were quiz, bidding game, supply chain game, overnight case challenge and layout presentation, sequencing and process optimization with minimum time calculation of logistics, situational analysis. The teams from Thiagarajar School of Management and XIME Kochi secured first and second place respectively.

X-SeedX-Seed the Social Club of XIME had organised an event for XIMERA where a total of 7 teams from different colleges participated. The event comprised of 4 rounds in total where the 1st round was named, “I got X”, 2nd Round was

“Poster Making contest”, 3rd Round was “Case-Study Presentation” and 4th round was “Village Adoption Plan”. The team from Christ Main Campus came out as winners of the event and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 12,000. XIME, Kochi was the Runners up and won a cash prize of Rs 8,000.

EmpresarioThe name of the event was based on the movie ‘The Social Network’. The first event was a General Quiz, it was a fun filled event with nail biting competition. The next round was the Press Release where in the team members represented the Manager of Maggie and had to face the Press with the query related to the Lead incident. The Hoax Market was the third event where in different people represented investors, bankers, suppliers, media, customers and unions. The second day of XIMERA began with a failed business plan idea. The next event was B-plan swap. Each team was given a different B-plan than what was submitted by them and had to present it within 15 minutes. emerged as the winners and Christ University, Bangalore bagged the runners-up award.

CulturalsThe cultural events on the 10th November 2017 included solo singing, solo dance and group dance competitions. The audience was thoroughly entertained by the talent on display, especially the group dance. On the second day, Cultural events started with the ‘Battle of the Bands’, a competition between Rock and fusion music groups across Bangalore. This was the first time a competition like this was hosted by XIMERA. A number of bands participated in the competition, and the audience enjoyed both the cover songs and the original songs played by the contestants.

The concluding event in the cultural events was the much-awaited fashion show. Only XIME students participated in the event, and walked the ramp and showcased their style quotient. The lighting and music added to the fun.

Finally, a trophy and a handsome cash prize was awarded to Christ University, Bangalore which performed consistently and admirably in all the Cultural events put together. This trophy was awarded to.

Fashion ShowStudents of XIME truly closed the curtains to its Management and Cultural extravaganza, XIMERA 2K17 Reloaded with panache. The students of Batch 22 and 23 walked the ramp in true Hollywood fervor, much in agreement with this year’s theme. With their sharp looks and

steady walk, the students not only displayed their diverse talents but also brought an apt closure to yet another mega endeavor.

ST. XAVIER’S DAY CELEBRATION

“No one can ever excel in great things who does not first excel in small”. These are the words of St Francis Xavier in whose remembrance XIME celebrates St. Xavier’s Day. St. Francis Xavier is considered the greatest missionary since the time of the Apostles, and the zeal he displayed, the wonderful miracles he performed, and the great number of souls he brought to the light of Christianity, entitled him to this distinction.

This year on 3rd December 2017, we celebrated the Feast of St Francis Xavier. Fr. George Sebastian, Director, XIME Bangalore, donned the role of celebrant and led the community into the Holy Mass, following which the students and faculty gathered for a community breakfast.

CLUB ACTIVITIES HR Connect Talk - Guest Lecture by Mr. Shailesh MenezesAs a part of Alumni Connect, Mr. Sailesh Menezes, alumni of XIME, Bangalore (1st Batch) visited the campus on 17th November 2017. Currently he is the Director & Head, HR, Hewlett Packard Enterprise India. During his talk, he

shared his experience in XIME and also shared how the campus and its culture has changed. The topic for the discussion was Future Jobs. Mr. Shailesh focused on the topic of “Personal Branding”. He said that factors like ethicality, reliability, credibility and adaptability matters a lot. He shared some experiences from HP where he learned the importance of these factors.

He also talked about the changes in the way jobs are being executed and the role of technology in them. The change from a hierarchical structure of manager to being a leader of a team and bringing value addition for the organisation. He also talked about the global technological trends, change in consumer behaviour, the impact of globalisation and the change in thinking from the previous generation to today’s generation. At last he added few tips for the students to be successful in life. He said that never try to live beyond your means. This was in relation to the emotional stress employees go through. He encouraged the students to compete with oneself and give back to society throughout one’s life.

MarkXime - Brand WarsMarkXime conducted its famous annual quiz, Brand Wars on 5th October 2017. This time the quiz was conducted with a twist, rather than being a conventional quiz, it was a real - time, online quiz which needed participants to answer the questions that were there on the screen by using their smartphone as their answering device! The students came in overwhelming numbers, and had a lot of fun and learning. The questions comprised of MCQ's which were split into various rounds, which included, marketing concepts, famous brands and personalities, current affairs on M&A and much more!

The winners of the quiz were Shipra Aggarwal (1st prize) and Sheetal Patil (2nd prize). The winners received certificates of merit, pen drives and hard cash.

Money Multiplier EventMarkXime organized its action-packed money multiplier event on the 29th November 2017. The event required the participants to multiply the money given to them within a stipulated time, 20 minutes to be precise, the participants used their creativity, selling skills and talents to woo the customers by providing them services like head massage, buying stuff from e-shop. They also entertained the customers by singing, dancing, cracking jokes and interacting with them to multiply the money as fast as possible. After the stipulated time given to us, they were required to give an oral presentation for 2 minutes, explaining them their selling methodology in front of the judges. The winners of the event would get 100% of the money collected, and the runners-up would get 80% of the money collected. The winners were Sharath and Maria, the runners-up were Shipra and Samiksha.

Emporio BazaarThe Entrepreneurship club of XIME Bangalore, ‘EMPRESARIO’ hosted its flagship event on the 11th October 2017. The event was called Emporio Bazaar and the main thought around the event was to give all the budding entrepreneurs on campus a fair opportunity to showcase their business skills. Prelims of the event were held on 6th October during which applicants had to submit their business ideas to the EMPRESARIO’ team in the form of a power point presentation. The six best teams were allowed to put up their stalls in the main campus (girls’ mess) on the day of the main event. The team that earned the most amount of profit would be declared the winner.

Other students also got the opportunity to visit all the 6 stalls, have the food on offer, and play various games held on the stalls. Every team got one stall to showcase their mini-exhibition of games, food, or both. One team also exhibited and later sold handicrafts of different types.

It was a close battle between the talented entrepreneurs and in the end, team ‘ICY SPICY BLAST’ was announced the winner. Teams ‘SHRAVAN’ and team ‘WABI SABI’ were awarded 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. The winners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates. All in all, it was a memorable event in which b-school students got an opportunity to become businessmen/ business women.

TGIFThe public speaking club of XIME, X-Oration conducted its fun event called “Thank God it’s Friday” on 13th October 2017. They emphasised on the point that not only verbal skills but also non-verbal actions play an equally important role in communication. In line with that the event had two rounds in which participants had to showcase their non-verbal as well as their persuasive skills. In the first event “Dumb-Charades”, students have to enact and identify the names of product. In the second round “Ad-World”, students had to create innovative advertisements for different brands by creating tag-lines, enacting the ads, etc. The winners of the event were Harshit and Karishma and the runners up were Adarsha and Shivani and Shreya Sengupta and Shreya Dehregawen from batch 23.

CAMPUS TALK BY DELOITTEOn 8th November 2017, the largest accounting firm of US, Deloitte visited XIME campus. People with different level of experience and designation arrived and explained about the company, its culture and the kind of the students they are looking to hire. The director of risk assurance team emphasised on the rise of technology in workplace and the required skills that the students should build. They also briefed about the growth opportunity in the company and the amount of mobility one can have after joining Deloitte. To give a real scenario about Deloitte, a newly recruited candidate was also called to share her experience in the past 6 months. This helped students to get the idea about the company from a perspective of a newly joined candidate.

KPMG CASE STUDY COMPETITIONThe prestigious KPMG KICC case study competition was held at XIME Bangalore Campus on the 24th October 2017. This is an annual competition which KPMG conducts across premium B-schools all over the campus. It starts with an in-campus round across campuses and from each institute the best team represents their institute for the regional round. It attracts the best talent from all over the country. This event is only open for the first years and gives them an opportunity to read, analyse and present a case, as a group of consultants in front of esteemed panel. This gives them immense exposure and gives them a pre-view about the life of a consultant in the Big 4. The team, The Fixers emerged as winners, just narrowly edging out Management Mavericks in the process.

The winning team comprises of Gayatri Sankar, Ramya Rajkumar, Santhosh Kumar and S. Hajra. They will be representing XIME in the regional finals which will be conducted in Bangalore later on. Kudos to them!

DISTINGUISHED SPEAKERS Guest Lecture by Mr. Satish Kumar Gupta

Mr. Satish Kumar Gupta, Head for Essar Steel as the Insolvency Resolution Professional visited XIME on 28th October 2017. He has been appointed to this position by the consortium of lenders led by SBI and NCLT and is overseeing restructuring of a 45,000 Crore portfolio which is the largest insolvency resolution operation ever in India. He interacted with the finance specialisation students and explained different concepts related to insolvency and its structure. While talking about the insolvency, Mr Satish explained the existing confusion caused by complex judicial framework. He also explained

about the need for reduction in time taken by following a time bound resolution. He then talked about the paradigm shift of regulations in terms of insolvency and structuring stressed assets in a company. He said that the change from debtors in possession to creditors in controls in required during the insolvency. The guest speaker explained to the students about the overview of The Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (IBC). He said the pillars of IBC are Corporate Debtors, Insolvency Resolution process for individuals and unlimited partnerships and Institutional infrastructure. He explained the role of resolution professional in the process of insolvency and the operational challenges National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) faces during the process. In terms of evaluation

He concluded by mentioning about the opportunities IBC has in creating new business and in the terms on interim management of company.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Anand PillaiMr. Anand Pillai, a famed motivational speaker visited the Bangalore campus for a guest lecture on 24th November 2017. It was a free talk session rather than a lecture. Many students from batch 22 and 23 attended the session. The session was about ‘Personal branding’. Mr. Pillai spoke effortlessly and eloquently, and he was very honest about his appearance and modest about his achievements. He spoke about self-belief, being true to oneself and at the same time he spoke about building self -confidence. He brought his excellent sense of humor to the fore, and the audience was in splits

most of the time. The faculty and management of the college who attended the session enjoyed it immensely. His session was short but memorable. The session ended soon, but not before Mr. Pillai had received a standing ovation from the audience.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Pratap SuthanOn 31st November 2017, XIME opened its doors to one of the most creative artists of our time, Mr. Pratap Suthan. He is the one who played a part in giving Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu their first break, and he is the one credited with the ‘Incredible India’ and ‘India Shining’ campaigns. He came to XIME to discuss with students the concept of Marketing Management and Advertisement.

The evening started with him playing the extremely catchy ‘Creative Anthem’ for the audience, which helped them, differentiate creative people from the rest of the world.

He then spoke of the evolution of advertising, that is, from the time of listening to radios, watching television, reading newspapers right up to the modern times of social media. He emphasized on the importance of social media and about how it can make or break a brand with relevant examples.

He then showed the audience the effect a simple but well-made advertisement can have on a viewer by showing the audience various ads including that of Ola and Samsung. He then spoke to how in awe he was of the technological advancements in the recent times. He even shared with the audience, his personal prediction of what the world would be like in 2047 which fascinated every person in the room. Followed by this was an interactive session between the audience and Mr. Pratap Suthan regarding the scope of advertising and ethical dilemmas faced by the ‘creative people’.

DIWALI CELEBRATIONS On 19th October 2017 students of batch 22 and 23 celebrated Diwali in the Bangalore campus with their extended family. The whole area was illuminated by Diya’s showcasing the tradition of the festival. The HR club, HRuday also organised some fun events on this occasion. Events like Rangoli Competition made students feel like home. Other games like Tambola also made the event more enthusiastic and energetic. Faculty and Supporting staff, and members of the family also joined in for the celebration. Students had a great meal prepared specially for the occasion.

CHILDREN’S DAY EVENTOn 14th November 2017, XSEED club of XIME organized Children’s day celebrations for over 45 students from 2 government school in XIME’s neighborhood and Shanti Bhavan, an NGO with the mission to adequately develop the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children of India’s “lowest caste”, with a world class education and enable them to achieve careers and professions of their choice. Children’s day celebrations are being held at XIME every year since 2012 in memory XIME Alumnus Late Mr. Sujith Valsalan from Batch 15. Events like Painting competition, Quiz, and Talent shows were conducted and gifts were presented to the winners. XSEED is happy that it was able to encourage the children from underprivileged background and inspire them to dream Big.

DANDIYA NIGHTWith unflinching support from the management, the Rotaract club of XIME hosted their flagship Dandiya event on 5th October 2017. It was a fund raiser event for the NGO- Swanthana. The faculty coordinator of Rotaract club, Prof. Jaffer was present on the occasion. It was a scintillating night with the students of Batch 22 and 23 grooving for some desi numbers, prizes for the Best attire/ Best dancer, super exciting games and many more. It was a memorable event in the XIME diaries.

DURGA PUJA CELEBRATIONOn 28th September 2017, the Bengali Association of XIME organized a fun filled evening at the MDP block celebrating the auspicious festival of Durga Puja.

Durga Puja is a festival celebrated in Bengal, Orissa, Assam and other parts of India that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The organizers chose ‘Ashtami’ or the ‘Eighth day’ to celebrate the festival as it is the most important day of the Puja.

On 28th September evening, all the students dressed up in traditional Bengali attire and gathered at the MDP block. The whole area was decorated with flowers and lights.

The evening started with a cultural show, which was also organized by the students. The entire story of Ma Durga and Mahishashur was depicted to the audience through a beautiful dance-drama. Students sang Bengali songs and danced graciously to Durga Puja themed songs. The evening continued with traditional dance and music. A ‘Dhunuchi naach’ competition was also held. The evening ended with a lavish Bengali meal that was served to all the students.

HR MEET AT XIME CHENNAIXIME Chennai organized a HR meet on 13th December 2017 for manufacturing companies in and around Orgagadam with an idea of getting to know the neighborhood and creating a platform for HR professionals in the region to network. 35 HR Leaders from 20 Oragadam based companies, including Nissan, Allison, Flextronics, Nippon Paint, Danfoss, Delphi, Unipress, Essar, Hyundai Steel, Momentive, Tempel Steel visited our campus. We had the opportunity to present XIME through a video presentation. The HR professional also benefited through the networking avenue the event presented.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONCarol singing was conducted as a preparation of Christmas on 8th December 2017. The President Mr. P. C. Cyriac I.A.S. (Retd.) presided over the function. Students rendered carols with the spirit of Christmas. The President delivered the Christmas message, emphasised joy and happiness as the basis of Christmas and this joy comes from the unconditional love of God for all human beings. After the cake cutting the staff and students participated in the party games arranged by the students.

QUEST 2017 Quest 2017, the management-cultural Fest of XIME Kochi was officially inaugurated on 20th October 2017 by Dean Academics, Dr. T.V. Francy in the presence of the XIME student fraternity and the participants from other colleges. Quest 2017 saw a first of its kind participation levels with a total of 240 students representing 22 different colleges across India. The valedictory ceremony started at 5pm on 21st October 2017 with Ms. Eesha Priya IAS, Asst. collector, Ernakulam, as our Chief Guest. Dr. Manoj Varghese, Director, XIME Kochi presided the ceremony in the presence of Dr. T.V. Francy, Dean Academics, along with the faculties, participants and the student fraternity of XIME Kochi. The prizes were distributed and Christ University, Bangalore bagged the overall championship of Quest 2017, beating 21 other colleges. The curtain for Quest 2017 fell with the cultural night that was organised for the students in the evening.

DISTINGUISHED SPEAKERS Plan@Earth @XIME KochiPlan@Earth is a Kochi based NGO working to make waste a resource. They try to work towards a waste free future where reutilization becomes the norm. Mr. Sooraj Abraham & Mr. Mujeeb Muhammed founders of Plan@earth emphasized on the need to reduce, reuse, recycle and redesign waste. Since recycling facilities in India lacked in advanced waste disposal technology, it therefore becomes the duty of each individual to take care of his or her own waste products. The speaker suggested several ideas on how the institution could reduce its waste generation and treat it. The first element of Personal Social Responsibility is cleanliness and it all begins with each human being, as socially responsible citizens. In continuation with this talk, XIME Kochi students

took a pledge to uphold the green protocol initiated by XSEED, the social club of XIME Kochi, to volunteer over 100 times towards efficient waste management and to spread awareness to over 100 people. This was also followed by students on a cleanliness drive in an around the campus.

Ms. Shantha Paul, AGM , RBIMs. Santha Paul, Assistant General Manager, Reserve Bank of India Kochi was the guest speaker for the speaker series session conducted on 11th October 2017. She spoke about India’s foreign exchange dimensions and what perspective RBI has. She mentioned that there is a shift in focus in foreign exchange management. Beginning from 1991, foreign reserves were found which were sufficient for only one week. Due to which severe problem in foreign exchange reserves in BOP arose. How foreign exchange has become the indicator of health of economy was indicated through import cover (with reserve or stock), interventions in market, payment of debt, etc. In 1992, LERMS was introduced and following year LERMS was modified. 90’s changes introduced LPG. FEMA was passed in 2000 replacing FERA to facilitate trade and develop a foreign exchange market in India. She talked about different acts passed during the year like Money Laundering act, 2003, etc. She further updated students with FEMA regime, how foreign direct investment flows and how India’s current account details are composed.

Mr. John Francis KMr.John Francis K, Leader - MENA Delivery and Digital Innovation, E & Y, gave a session on current trends in innovation and urged students to be updated with the current trends in the market so that they become able leaders.

Mr. Abraham TharianMr. Abraham Thariyan, Executive Director, V –Star, was the guest speaker for the speaker series session conducted on the 8th November 2017. Mr. Thariyan is a banker, co-author and an independent director of the UAE Exchange, India Ltd. He spoke on the topic ‘Challenges faced by Indian Banks’. He mentioned that the Indian banking scenario has undergone tremendous changes ever since the imperial times. Mergers and acquisitions after independence allowed loss-making state banks to function as private banks. According to the speaker, the challenges faced by the Indian banks are numerous- non-performing assets, large overdues, political pressure, competition from NFBCs

and foreign banks to name a few. Solutions like embracing technology, beefing up cybersecurity, spreading awareness and reducing debt were suggested.

CLUB ACTIVITIES

Blood Donation Camp on 27th September 2017XSEED club  organized a blood donation camp on 27th September 2017 at XIME, Kochi campus in association with Indian Medical Association.  The blood was donated by both the faculty and the students. XSEED club is maintaining a data base of the blood groups and have been activity contributing to the needy people whenever there is a request for a blood donation.

XIME –My Place, My ResponsibilityA one-week cleanliness drive was conducted by the XSEED club from 3rd October to 7th October were activities like cleaning the campus and pathways outside the campus were done. In addition to this there were poster making competitions and campaigns to spread awareness on waste management among students. There was also a Nukkad Natak which delivered a message to the students that the  cleanliness in  our place is our responsibility.

Eye and Dental Check Up XSEED club in association with Ahalia Eye Foundation Hospital and Vasan Dental Care Hospital organized a free eye and dental check-up on 29th November 2017 for the people of our neighbouring locality. For those requiring the spectacles, we also sponsored the same from XIME.

INSTITUTION TRIP TO ATHIRAPPALLY VAZHACHALXIME Kochi team – both Faculty and Staff went on a one-day tour to Athiraplly- Vazhachaal, natural waterfalls, on 3rd January 2018 lead by our chairman Dr. J. Alexander IAS(Retd.). The trip was a memorable one were all the staff and faculty members had lot of fun and enjoyment. Chairman Dr. J. Alexander commented that it was a great joyful outing and a much needed one which actually strengthens the bonding of the team.
