Addresses Plant Pollution Problem at Blackrock City Council Meeting (Blackrock, IA) April 5, 2014 -- Blackrock City Council is holding a meeting on April 11, 2014 at 5:00 PM. The Raina carborundum plant in Blackrock, Iowa has been under pressure to remedy its pollution problem. Leslie Sludge, manager of Raina, will be witness to the company’s announcement of a plan to combat the pollution problem in the community. Sludge says, “Raina, Inc. has decided to move ahead with this program at this time because of its long-standing responsibility for keeping the Blackrock environment clean and in response to growing community concern over achieving the objective.” Sludge explains the new pollution abatement-program will begin in October and that the company expects “real progress in terms of clean water and clear air” as early as two years from today. The company has decided to commit another $2million in addition to the past $5.3 million for pollution-abatement facilities over the next three months. Raina will hire 100 extra workers especially for the pollution-abatement program to improve the problem of smoke from the plant’s smokestacks which cause waste to filter into neighboring streams. The bulk of the money budgeted for the new pollution-abatement program will be spent on two globe refractors, which purify waste destined to be deposited in surrounding waterways, and four hyperventilation system, which remove noxious particles dispersed into the air from smokestacks. (Blackrock, IA) April 5, 2014 -- Blackrock City Council is holding a meeting on April 11, 2014 at 5:00 PM. The Raina carborundum plant in Blackrock, Iowa has been under pressure to remedy its pollution problem.
