Callum Harrison News Stories Review I had to find different news stories from the internet and college; I needed to get 5 news stories in total. After I had got my news stories I needed to create a news gathering diary which would include all of the relevant information for the news stories I had selected such as: the dates of when the news took place, who was involved in the news upon completing this I created a news bulletin and read it out gathering feedback for it. I then had to find and record 3 of my own news stories, I had to look for all the information I thought would be needed creating mind maps from the information I had gathered followed by scripts for each of my news stories. I finally booked out the required equipment to interview people on my news stories. The first story that I chose to do was about people decisions when it comes to applying to university and what their reasons are for deciding against applying. Because my stories are aimed at college students I interviewed two different students on their decisions, one student who was applying to university and the other who was not. I was giving a 30 second recording limit. I needed to get as much information in as I thought was important. After asking the questions and getting the responses I used the programme reaper to edit my recorded footage and cut it down to the 30 seconds which I had to work with. I believe that this news story was one of the best ones that I created because it was detailed on the student’s decisions when deciding what they wanted to do when it came to applying to University. My next story was related to local news, I had heard that a Tram had crashed into a car and I was quite close to the incident. I looked at the news online and found some information about it and decided I wanted to use this for my next news story. This news story would be about the crash,

News Stories Review

I had to find different news stories from the internet and college; I needed to get 5 news stories in total.

This news story would be about the crash, what happened, where it was and who was involved. After gathering the required information I created a bulletin and then recorded the opening to the news story. After I wrote a short quote that I later added into my news story using the programme reaper. Although the story went well, it wasn’t as suitable for the target audience as it could have been. I originally planned to include that students who use trams to get to college will be affected by the tram crash but I didn’t include this in the final story.

My final story was about the Neknomination Online drinking game. I gave information on what the story was about along with a few interviews of people opinions on the game. I looked for relevant information on the drinking game specifically looking for information on where the game originated and how many deaths there had been since the game arrived in the UK. I believe that this story was good because it was relevant to the target audience and I gave good information on what the game was about and how it is becoming more dangerous. The story was aimed at college students so I again interviewed students for their opinions. I thought that getting opinions from students

would be the most relevant for my target audience. I edited the raw footage on the Programme Reaper which cutting the parts and placing them in the right place.

I think my News stories went well overall, they were all informative, clear and concise. If I was to do the News stories again I would do some more research into the stories. This is because I missed some information on a few stories which could have helped to improve to story. Another thing I would do is make sure that when recording I spoke slower and clearer to make it easier for the listeners to understand.
