Dear Parents,

Four years ago, after a lot of consultation with staff, pupils and parents, we decided on ‘Inspiring in every child theconfidence to succeed’ as our school strapline. (‘Well, it is what we do!’, commented one member of the Pre-Prepstaff). These words continue to stand true and underpin our philosophy as a school. All of our pupils demonstrateour philosophy. General Newsfood, adventure, different cultures andcountries. We have painted a Road ofSmiles picture, studied the countries thatthey have passed along the way, lookedinto the history of the Silk Road andidentified the spices which travelledalong them. In the meantime, we havebeen aware of this monumentalchallenge, which has inspired, I hope, anew generation of adventurers toconsider challenges of their won in theirfuture lives.

For our Pre-Prep and Prep Schoolchildren to watch Oli and Matthieu asthey made their way to Oli’s old schoolwas one of the most moving momentsof my six years at Northbourne Park. In aworld of Facebook and sequinnedcelebrities, Oli and Matthieu stand headand shoulders above the rest as rolemodels for our young charges. Who canfail to be impressed by their extraordinary physical andmental endurance? Who can fail to be touched by theirwonderful work with children, literally bringing smiles totheir faces and ours? I thank them for all that they havecontributed to this community over the past eight monthsand wish them well as they reach the end of this wonderfuladventure. Please do read their blogs about their wonderfuladventures over Christmas with your children and if youhaven’t done so and you are able, please do make adonation to this expedition.

..continuing the charitable theme, thank you all for yourgenerosity in filling 55 boxes of goodies for those in need inEastern Europe. Thank you for supporting this venture sostrongly before Christmas. Mrs Hayes has written a short paragraph in this newsletter thanking you all again.

Year 2 Introduction to Prep School. Saturday 23rd November. I very much enjoyed meeting the Year 2 parents on Saturday to explain a little more about life in the Prep Schooland thank both staff and parents for contributing so strongly to this informative morning.

Informal concert. Sunday 24th November.Once again, Mrs Gleave organized a wonderful Sunday evening concert. Thank you to those who performed sowonderfully. Well done to our beginners and to our very seasoned and accomplished players.

Fenwick. Wednesday 27th November. Thank you also to the choir for once again representing the school so well at this annual event. Thank you to theparents who attended and I hope it helped with the Christmas purchases.

Christmas Fair. Friday 29th November. This event opens the Christmas festivities and I hope many of you will be able to attend to stock up with thoseearly Christmas gifts. Over 20 adult stallholders will set up their stalls in the Prep School and the children will addtheir own sugar twist to proceedings, I am sure, in the Sports Hall.

Challock. Sunday 1st December. There has been much discussion this year about the Challock Advent Carol service, which is always a wonderfulstart to the Christmas season. Please do come and listen to our choir, joined by the adult choir singing a traditionaland moving service. It is a service of peaceful reflectiveness.

Super Friday, Super Saturday and Super Sunday. 6-8th December. Please do come and enjoy a quintessentially NPS weekend at the school with the Friends Christmas Drinks andDiscos for the children on the Friday night, don your netball trainers or football boots for the staff - parents - >

past pupils - pupils matches, (remembering to warm up beforehand!) We do not want any injuries this year andplease remember that we do have some younger players involved.

Cameron Channing I cannot believe that Cameron has been with us for a year already. It is like he has only just arrived with us.Cameron settled seamlessly into life at NPS and his easy and warm nature has ensured that he has been awonderful asset to the school. I very much hope that he uses his creative talents to the full in a future life ofteaching and inspiring young children. He certainly has a firm grip on discipline, as evidenced recently in hisdesign of an Assembly Attendance Card for his colleague Haydn! We wish him all of the very best for the future.Louise Orchard and Chris White join us in January as our new Graduate Assistants.

..and this brings us on to,

The Nursery and Reception Nativity, the Class 1 & 2 Nativity, the Christmas Concert, Choir rehearsals for the Carolservice and then the final day of yuletide celebrationsbefore we break for Christmas. I am not sure that wecould have packed more creativity and exploration intothis busy term if we had tried. My thanks as ever to ourinspirational staff for all that they do, to our pupils for allof their hard work and to you for such generoussupport.

With best wishes, Edward

The people of our local area have shown hugecommunity spirit and got together quickly and efficientlyto help out with this collection and cargo preparation.

The photos were taken on Friday 15 November at MrsPinky Jimenez's home in Eastry where we packed 70boxes of goods coming from NPS, Tilmanstone villagecommunity and Eastry Primary school.

The boxes and packing tape were donated by Minters ofDeal and all the items were sorted by type, boxed andlabelled.

The boxes were all transported to Ashford last weekend. From there the cargo will fly to the Philippines where itwill be handed over to the Philippines Red Cross.

News from the Boarding HouseWell, where to start! As always we have lotsof news to share in this edition of thenewsletter. Starting from where we left offlast time, on the eve of the newsletterpublication the Dorm Captains from the firsthalf of term received a treat for all their hardwork and got to make and then eat theirown pizzas. This was great fun and thechildren really enjoyed getting hands-on andchoosing their own toppings, even more, they loved having their pizza ‘delivered’ tothem while they spent the remainder of theevening watching a movie!

For the long weekend we began on Saturdaywith a well need rest day, staying at school, having electrical items and relaxing aroundthe respective houses… for the boys this‘relaxing’ took the form of some rathermuddy games of football, but a good, rejuvenating day was had by all! For the boys the day wasfinished off with a lovely evening watching Shrek and thegirls had a super pamper evening in the cosy girls’ house, complete with face masks and foot spa!

On Sunday, we decided to deviate from the norm and havebreakfast in our PJs in front of the television! We were allenjoying this so much that we postponed our leaving timefor our trip out by over an hour! Having eventually finishedbreakfast we wrapped up warm and jumped in the minibusesto make our first visit to Folkestone, a nearby costal townwith a great big play park by the sea! The weather wastypically British but we were not put off and had a brilliant time at the park, swinging, climbing, sliding and generally having lots of fun; even the staffcouldn’t resist joining in! Once we’d worn ourselves out at the park we hada short walk to the Golden Arches Restaurant, purveyors of high qualitybeef patties, McChips, McPop and a bonus McFlurry too! What a great day!

We flew through the week at school completing not only school work butalso two big charity events. The first was the Road of Smiles return onThursday and many of the boarders took on important roles in this event, including welcoming the guest and playing in the school band. The second,on Friday, was the Share Uganda Marathon where many of theNorthbourne pupils, including lots of our boarders, helped to raise £730 fora superb charity. Thank you to all of the parents and friends, particularlythose abroad, who sponsored the children. They ran their legs off in thecold and wet and your support meant a lot to them as well as the charity!

This weekend was another busy one, with school on Saturday and aCinema trip and an Informal Music Concert on Sunday! Some of theboarders enjoyed watching the new Hunger Games film and our youngerchildren watched the amusing Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs 2. Thechildren enjoyed the music concert and it is always a pleasure to watchthe children perform, whether they are beginners or experiencedmusicians!

Already this week we have celebrated Curtis-Green’s winning of Dorm ofthe Week by icing and decorating biscuits with more sweets and sprinklesthan you ever thought could fit on a biscuit; have changed our diningroom routine at the request of the children and are preparing for a cross-country event and the Christmas Fair on Friday! >

The children have very active lives here and while we understand your desire to talkwith them, it is also very important that they have plenty of sleep. We encourage you to call between 8 and 9pm,email anytime and contact them on their personal devices during the weekends.

As always, please be in touch with the boarding team for any questions or queries.

1st XI Football vs St. Edmund’s (Away)

This was the last Molten league match of the season and the boys were really keen to end off in style. The weather has reallyturned now, and so this match was played in cold and damp conditions.

Although we went 1 nil down in the 14th minute, this was not a true reflection of the match, as we had played most of thefootball in the first half. Our passing was clinical and accurate, allowing us to play the most attractive football of the wholeseason.

Paddy Jackaman eventually evened the scores by scoring a great opportunists goal, when he was left unmarked at the far post.

Score at half time was 1-1. Game on!!

Once again, a period of 10 minutes saw us fall asleep, and the opposition capitalised on this. We conceded two rather softgoals, one of them being the result of a mistaken back pass to the keeper! Hey ho!!

Lads, in truth, you deserved more from this match. You worked hard, passed well and created great chances. The oppositionhad to fight hard to secure their win and I am proud of your performance. Special mention must be made of Roshan Aiyagariand Charlie Scholfield, who were playing their second U13 match even though they are only U11. Well done!

Boys, take all that you have gained from this match and ensure that you put it into place for the last game of the season nextweek.

Man of the Match: Felix Dont and Nic Yanni

1st XI Football vs Wellesley House (Away)

Playing football in muddy and wet conditions is very difficult and can at times resemble a rugby match in the middle of winter!!

There is no doubting the commitment that each boy displayed and there were plenty of bodies that were put on the line!!However, there where three main reason that culminated in us losing this match!

1. There was hardly any communication between each player until the final 10 minutes of the first half, when we scored ouronly goal!

2. We lost our shape a great deal, especially at the back and this resulted in us leaving big gaps and thus chasing the ball!!!

3. Finally, we allowed the ball to come to us, rather than go and get it! So instead of being competitive on the ball, we let theopposition intercept too many passes!!

Unfortunately, football is all about possession and shape, without these key ingredients it is difficult to win matches!!

Although we played well in parts, looking to pass the ball along the ground and out on the wings, in the end we were possiblya bit too naive in our attacking options. Final score 4-1 to Wellesley House.

Now that our half term break is over, we need to build our fitness up again and start getting the basics right in training.

Man of the Match: Alberico Bernard

Metherell Cup. Colts at Junior King’s

This is a fantastic tournament; 8 schools compete in 2 leagues of 4. The top 2 from each league go into the semi-final and thenthe final. Northbourne were drawn in a league of Lorenden, Junior King’s and St Edmund’s, 3 good teams and so getting to thenext round would be tough.

Our first match was not good. We were asleep for the first half and when Lorenden went one up through an own goal, anequaliser was never on the cards. Our next match was the complete opposite. We dominated Junior King’s for the whole gameand deservedly won through goals by Roshan and Charlie. A draw against St Edmund’s in our last game would be enough toput us through and we controlled the game throughout, it ending 0-0.

Unfortunately we were drawn against Kent College in the semi-final; they are a spectacular side and although we played ourbest, they ran out 3-0 winners. Kent College went on to beat Lorenden in the final 4-0 to lift the cup.

Apart from the first game you played well, boys. Decent communication, some nice passing and a bit of aggression thrown in –well done.

Man-of-the-Tournament – Sam Ditton

Under 9 Football vs St Edmund’s (Away)

In effect we played two matches against a very accommodating St. Edmund’s team. In the first half we played the strong St.Edmund’s team but with our substitutes included. We kept a good team shape considering we had the extra players but wentdown 3 – 0 because Charlie Exley, our old buddy, scored a hat-trick against us!

In the second half, St. Edmund’s put on their ‘B’ team. We looked the more dominant side but didn’t keep our shape as well asin the first half. In fact, we resembled a swarm of bees chasing after a bouncy honey pot but our energy was duly rewardedwith a 0 – 0 draw.

It was good to see the commitment of all the boys and how much more comfortable the team seem to be when on the ball.

Player of the Match: Nat Thompson

Colts A v Kent College (Home)

This game, our second meeting of the season with Kent College, is often the acid test of how much the boys have progressed. The first fixture saw us soundly beaten 5-0 against one of the best teams in Kent and it was important that we did better thistime.

The day did not start well with our striker, Jack Shipton, unable to play. This meant a call up for Patrick Davies from the B’s and areorganisation of structure. The team talk prior to the match called for discipline and determination – the boys gave it in bucketloads.

To be honest, Northbourne outplayed Kent College for the majority of the game, especially in the first half. Our link-up play wasoutstanding and NPS rightly took the lead through Roshan Aiyagari after 10 minutes. The rest of the half saw Northbourne pileon the pressure and better finishing would have seen us end the half 3-o0 up instead of 1-0.

Kent College roared back in the second half and equalised early on. Only Marcus Yanni in goal kept them from going ahead butit was Northbourne who should have won, but twice our finishing lacked power and the game ended in a draw.

Boys, a superb performance which showed just how much you have improved as a team.

Final Score : Northbourne 1 Kent College 1

Man-of-the-Match : Patrick ‘Super Sub’ Davies

2nd Team Football vs Junior King’s 4th Team (Away)

Football in monsoon conditions!! On a bitterly cold and wet afternoon, we attempted to play this match on a paddy field.

The game plan was simple, forget the wet, forget the cold and let’s be bold!!

With the introduction of Ferdinand Plessix, the boys started tp play out wide and our passing was as clinical as it could be. Wewent 2-0 up early on and the score remained like this until half time.

However, we feel asleep during the second half, possibly suffering from complacency! King’s fought back really well and tookthe lead 3-2 with five minutes remaining. Enter Oscar Balfour who then scored what must be goal of the season throughout theschool! He climbed up above everyone else to meet an accurate corner kick to head home in the top left hand corner of thegoal.

Final score was 3-3. Well done lads on your brave and determined efforts! This was an exciting game to watch.

Man of the Match: Oscar Balfour and Ferdinand Plessix

Under 9 vs Lorenden (Home)

This was a good match to watch with the boys from both sides giving their all. Leo Bevan in particular, again showedimprovement and pulled off two good saves in the first half. Lorenden had a superb player who managed to dominate up frontand because of him, the score was 3 – 0 by half-time. In the second half, Lorenden sportingly took off their best player whichproved to be the difference between the two sides as Lorenden failed to score any more goals and in fact we looked the morelikely team to score with efforts from Matthew Hickson, Jayson Weadon, Freddie Hendy, Charlie Unitt and Max Skingle bringingus close. This was an enjoyable afternoon’s football, well played all boys.

Colts A v Junior King’s (Home)

This was the best that the Colts A have played all season – even better than the draw against Kent College.

Every player was disciplined, intelligent and aggressive – a powerful combination. We played the ball to feet, we gave the manwith the ball options and we shot when we had a sight of goal – everything that we had trained to do.

The match looked evenly balanced in the first 10 minutes with attacks by both sides but both keepers were playing well; thenan attack led to a firm shot in the box which was handled by a King’s defender – penalty. Roshan stepped up and crashed it intothe net. Half-time 1-0.

We have, in the past, given away leads and so the boys were asked to start the second half aggressively and score again – whichis what they did. This time Jack Shipton was put through and he slotted past the keeper.

King’s came back and scored a very good goal to liven the game up but with minutes to go, King’s scored an own goal toeffectively end the game.

Boys, an outstanding performance. Let’s take this spirit into our last game. Final Score : NPS 3 King’s 1

Men-of-the-Match : The whole team.

Colts B v Junior King’s (Home)

It is always disheartening to play well and lose but football is a game that involves scoring goals and if you don’t score them, then you can’t win. The boys did play so well, especially in the first half. Oliver was marshalling the midfield and Calum andMirko looked confident in defence. Our forwards, especially captain Luke, were combining well but we just couldn’t put the ballin the net. Right before half-time a hand-ball gave King’s a penalty which George saved but they scored on the rebound.

The second half taught us a valuable lesson – if you give the ball to the opposition then they will score, which is exactly whatthey did. We had a lot of possession through winning tackles but we kept passing to the opposition. King’s managed to score 3more times in the second half to make the score worse than it should have been.

Boys, you deserved more today but I hope you understand that you can’t keep giving the ball away.

Final Score : NPS B 0 Junior King’s B 4

Man-of-the-Match : Luke Skingle

2nd Team Football vs. Edmund’s (Home)

Immediately after the whistle blew for the start of this match we dominated both possession and territory. Accurate passes andgood communication lead to an early goal by Victor Saint Bris. This definitely set the tone for the match as the NPS boys carriedon applying pressure and we looked the better team.

10 minutes before the end of the half, we took our foot off the accelerator and let them equalise, taking the score to 1: 1 at halftime.

We ran back out determined to set the pace for the rest of the match. Two great goals were scored within 5 minutes of eachother. Victor managed to get his second goal and Jack Shipton snuck one passed the keeper to take us 3: 1 up. The St.Edmund’s boys had a lot of shots at goal but unlike us, they failed to score due to some superb goal keeping from Nils Rivier.

A counter attack by St. Ed’s and some frantic defending led to an accidental hand ball inside the box! The St. Edmund’s strikermanaged to score the penalty making the score 3: 2. The boys continued to impress until the final whistle and finished on ahigh. Well done second team we are definitely showing signs of radical improvement.

Man of the match: Nils Rivier, for a consistently brave and skilful performance. (Suggested by the opposition coach).

Colt’s A v Lorenden (Home)

Although this wasn’t a league game, we were determined to put in a good performance against a side that had beaten us in theMetherell Cup a few weeks ago.

Due to the bad weather, we were unable to play on the full-sized pitch and so ended up on a much smaller pitch which meantthat keeping possession of the ball was far more important. It was pleasing, then, to see the boys adapt very quickly to theconditions and it wasn’t surprising when Roshan made yet another run down the left, he cut in and slammed the ball into theback of the net. >

Sports NewsBut Lorenden are a skilful side made of stern stuff and they quickly responded with a good goal of their own to make it 1-1 athalf-time.

With the rain pouring down, the second half turned out to be a battle of spirit. Northbourne started the half well, keeping theball and passing accurately. This possession created a goal chance for captain Charlie which he took well. Alas, we sat back onour laurels and allowed Lorenden one final chance from which they scored to end the game 2-2.

Boys, this result means that throughout the season, no side has beaten us twice – well done.

Final Score : NPS 2 Lorenden 2

Man-of-the-Match : Roshan Aiyagari

Colt’s B v Lorenden (Home)

Colt’s B goals are a bit like the Number 12 bus – you wait all season for 1 and then 4 come along at the same time!

These boys have played together all season and have improved with every game, but a victory didn’t look like it was going tocome. But this game was to be different.

We were playing on a smaller pitch and this seemed to help the boys communicate better and thus they were able to link up farmore efficiently, move the ball around and ultimately put the opposition keeper under pressure. This paid off when a good crosswas met by captain Luke who smashed the ball into the net. This was followed up by Thurso who skilfully made it 2-0 justbefore the break.

We were caught counting our chickens before the eggs hatched early in the second half and Lorenden fought back to make it2-2. But time has forged a real spirit in the B’s and they charged back to the other end and Thurso scored his second to make it3-2 to NPS. But Lorenden were equally determined and they scored with barely a minute to go to make it 3-3. Game over? Not likely. With seconds left, Thurso shot from far and the bounce deceived the Lorenden keeper and the ball dribbled over theline – a hat-trick for Thurso and a great victory for the B team. Well deserved boys.

Final Score : NPS 4 Lorenden 3

Men-of-the-Match : Luke Skingle and Thurso Willett

Under 9 Football vs Kent College (Home)

Northbourne Park 2 v Kent College 2

We wanted to finish the season on a high note and were determined to put on a good show. Kent College sent two teams andput their ‘A’ team on in the first half. Despite being keen to do well, we were still rather slow to close down and Kent Collegeplayed some good football, going in at half time 2 – 0 up. In the second half, Kent College put on their B team and we beganto dominate more. Matthew Hickson scored a fine goal to make it 2 – 1 and Max Skingle, deservedly scored to give us a 2 – 2draw. This is a fine result to end our season and shows how well we have progressed.

Our thanks go to Lesley for the match teas, Dolrick for preparing the pitches and Cameron for sorting out our kit.

1st XI Football vs Dover College (Away)

As always, playing on a damp and slow pitch, exposed to the wind is not the best of conditions, but there was no turning back!

We started off rather rusty, but as we settled into the game we started to create shots on goal. As Mr Riley has reminded us allseason, ‘lads, we must turn our possession into points!’

We are not used to playing 9 a side, so our new shape and structure took some getting used to. Despite this, we began to playsome intelligent and determined football. However, the game was still very evenly poised at 0-0 by half time.

After a few tactical substitutions in the second half, the opposition started to tire somewhat and this allowed Ladislas Bacot tofinish off a very well worked piece of team play. We could of gone 2 nil up, but alas Paddy missed a penalty late on.

The final whistle went and we had picked up our third win of the season 1-0.

In truth, we could have lost this match 4-1 or even drawn 4-4, such was the open-ended nature of the game. These score linesmay well have been a reality had both goalkeepers not ‘played out of their skin!’

Sports NewsWell done today on a hard fought win. Boys, this was a good team display for our last game of the season – now for SuperSaturday!!

Man of the Match: Felix Dont and Ferdinand Plessix

Under 9 Football vs Wellesley House (Away)

We kept a good team shape and marked well in this closely fought game. Charlie Unitt, making his debut for the team wasdominant in the midfield and Jayson Weaden provided him with excellent support. Leo Bevan played his best game of theseason in goal but Wellesley scored just before half time through a defensive error when we put the ball in the danger areainstead of kicking it out. Remember boys, “if in doubt, kick it out!”

Despite the conditions, the boys kept up a good level of play in the second half and had chances to equalise. The gamecontinued to be competitive with Matthew Hickson and Nat Thompson looking solid and providing excellent cover.

This scoreline shows that we have made some excellent improvement from our first match with Wellesley. Well played all boys.

U13 Hockey v Junior King’s (Home)

Northbourne made a super start to this match with some lovely passing moves and crosses into the shooting circle. Carla,Camille and Honor displayed excellent stickwork at pace and the rest of the team backed up and used the space well. By halftime Carla had scored 2 goals, Camille 2 goals, Honor 1 goal and Ella, who is improving game by game, scored once with alovely strike and was unlucky to have had another shot into the goal disallowed.

At 6-0 up we were able to give some of our younger and less experienced girls a chance to play. They worked hard

Under 11 A Hockey vs St Edmund’s (Home)

The team has been working very hard on their tackling and marking skills. This paid off during the game (against a team thatbeat us convincingly at their home venue). The girls defended exceptionally well, keeping the score at 0-0 until half time.

A few minutes after half time, St. Edmund’s came out blazing and managed to slip the ball passed the defence to put them inthe lead. The girls counter-attacked with great passes to one another and had a number of goal scoring opportunities.Unfortunately there was no goal as a reward and the game ended with NPS losing 1-0 to St. Edmund’s.

The whole team played with guts and determination, therefore all of them are players of the match. Keep it up, girls!

Under 11 B Hockey vs St Edmund’s (Home)

This was a very even game compared to the last time NPS played St. Ed’s. They beat us 4-0 and their goal keeper was helpingus! This time, with Ashika Vaughn in goal, the girls gave the opposition a run for their money. They defended exceptionally welland were passing the ball to each other, enabling NPS to enter the opposition’s attacking half more than they have ever done.

There was great excitement so the girls forgot to play the ball wide and tended to hit the ball up the middle of the field. Thisgave the other team chance to get the ball easily and counter-attack. It was end to end hockey and enjoyed by all.

Final result: a 0-0 draw

Inter House Hockey Competition

Finally it stopped raining and enabled us to run our Inter House hockey competition!

Four very keen and excited house teams took to the hockey pitch on a lovely still afternoon in order to do battle and competefor those important extra house points. Although there was a little slipping and sliding going on we could not fault the physicaleffort and commitment shown by all the teams. Every girl from Year 5 upwards took part in the competition with the Year 3 and4 girls doing a grand job as cheerleaders, supporters and hydration providers!

The final results were as follows:-1st Marlborough 9pts2nd Drake 7pts3rd equal Nelson & Wellington 4pts each

Under 11 A Hockey vs St Lawrence (Away)

I would like to start by saying a big thank you to Mr Riley for organising another fixture for the girls. It was great to have 3teams playing on a fantastic surface and St. Lawrence were extremely accommodating.

It was well worth the effort of leaving early from school, as the girls played their best hockey all season. The first half was great. The ball carrier was passing into space enabling the receiver to collect the ball without pressure. There were a number of entriesinto the attacking circle, however the girls are not hungry enough to score goals. This needs passion, being prepared to diveand do anything to get the ball into the box.

The other team had this passion and were able to score two very good goals. Final score:2-0 to St. Lawrence.

Keep working hard and the goals will flow.

Player of the match: Isabella Savage for her great skill and passing the ball into space.

Sports NewsUnder 11 B Hockey vs St Lawrence (Away)

This team hasn’t had a lot of match practice this season, so they are not used to playing with each other. Fortunately they havebeen training hard during games and PE and were able to do some good passes, tackle well and mark the opposition. Mariaplayed very well in goals (her first time as goal keeper in a match) and saved two certain goals.

The rest of the team fought hard and protected the goal. They had a few attacking opportunities, but neither team could scoredue to both teams being of equal standard.

Well done girls. Keep fighting.

Final score: 0-0

Player of the match: Maria Canero

Under 9 Hockey vs St Lawrence (Away)

The NPS U9 team played their first game of 7-a-side hockey ever. The extra players on the pitch (compared to the 5-a-sidegames) gave the girls more options when passing however, we did not always use this to our advantage allowing the ball to beintercepted.

Our team was joined by a St Lawrence player and the 7 girls worked hard on the pitch.

In the first half no goals were scored by either team and NPS defence was very strong. Lauren has to be congratulated for herability to both intercept the ball and then pass it safely to the wings, time and time again.

In the second half we were tiring and the play was less consistent. The St Lawrence girls scored two goals in quick successionbut we were unable to challenge for a goal ourselves.

Girls, we must practice more in 7-aside formation; remember to play in position, chase and challenge for the ball withdetermination, even in the rain, cold and when you're getting tired!

It was great to see you all enjoying the game and being great representatives for Northbourne at Match Tea. Thank you.

Players of the Match, Lauren Spencer, for her tireless defence and full focus throughout the game and Olivia Ryeland forplaying hard even at the end of the game!

U11 A Hockey vs Wellesley House (Away)

The girls were asleep for the first half of the match. They allowed Wellesley to run with the ball, without tackling or markingproperly. Wellesley had a number of very skillfull players who were able to score some great goals.

At half time the score was 4-0.

Fortunately NPS woke up and started to play some decent hockey. Evie Jackaman made some good tackles against Wellesley’sbest player. Clara Nagel gave some fantastic passes from the 16 yard line, which allowed a few attacking opportunities for NPS.Unfortunately no goals came our way. Wellesley managed to score 2 more goals, leaving the score at 6-0 to Wellesley.

Girls, it is important to be switched on from the start of the game and play the game pattern that we have been practising allseason.

U11 B Hockey vs Wellesley House (Away)

It was great to have an unplanned fixture for the B team as we haven’t played many matches this season. This has contributedto the fact that in the first half the girls played very individually and there was no cohesion in their play.

The second half was much better, with Olivia Ryeland passing the ball into space for Abigail and Alice to form an attack. We hadone shot at goal to Wellesley’s many goal scoring opportunities. Wellesley scored 4 goals to our 0 to win the game convincingly.

Even though we were beaten, the girls are learning that they have to work together as a team and are improving their skillswith each game.

Player of the match: Olivia Ryeland for her great defence and good passing skills.

Sports Newsyou goes to Alexandra Bond and Anna Bevan for helping the u9’s.

The other team dominated the first half with three key players who all play for Canterbury hockey club. The opposition’s passesand skills were far superior to NPS, however, NPS once again defended tirelessly and were able to stop numerous shots at goal. The other team did not let up and were rewarded with 3 goals in the first half.

The second half was much more competitive. Olivia Ryeland’s strong passes up the field enabled NPS to form some sort ofattack. Unfortunately some of the girls are not looking up and easily dribble the ball onto the opposition strong side. Oliviaalmost scored a goal, but there was no one to give the final push over the goal line.

The other team scored one more goal, but fortunately our girls spirits were high as Mariella said that it was the best game ever.

Final score: Kent College won 4 – 0

Player of the match: Olivia Ryeland

U11 A Hockey vs Junior King’s (Away)

The girls had a great chance of winning this game from the start. They played very well, distributing the ball wide and they hadthe most attacking opportunities all season. Unfortunately excitement and pressure got the better of our forwards and theywere unable to penetrate JKS defence to score.

Junior King’s were able to capitalise on NPS attack. They had 3 opportunities to score from counter attacks and they did so. Itwas disappointing for the girls not to be rewarded with a win, but they are improving with every game.

Final score: JKS 3 NPS 0

Player of the match: Clara Nagel for her distribution from the back.
