“Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak” (Colossians 4:2–4). W hen I came to SEARCH three years ago, I knew that this ministry reached into the homes of people in many states of America. I did not know, however, just how many doors were open then or how many God would open in days to come. My constant prayer is for God to open doors for the Word, and to be able to speak clearly and boldly (Ephesians 6:19) as I ought to speak. Recently we received a letter from Myanmar (Burma), an email from India, a phone call from Hawaii, and a request for materials from Trinidad. More and more we are hearing from places like Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon, where the church is not strong. Many of these places thank us for bringing the gospel message to their locality. Recently we have added two powerful stations in the state of California (Fresno and San Francisco), which has opened up great opportunities for people to hear the gospel. People have written such encouraging notes thanking us for bringing the gospel to their area. One man in Montana lives 65 miles from the nearest church of Christ. He now has an opportunity to be close to brethren at home by television. While SEARCH has never intended to be a replacement for worship at church, it is a blessing to the shut-ins who cannot get out through no fault of their own. We want to meet their needs. We also want to touch the erring who have quit going to church. We estimate there are a million members of the church of Christ who have stopped attending for a variety of reasons. They might watch a television program when they won’t attend church. They need spiritual help and teaching. SEARCH spends more than 85 percent of its donations on airtime and filling the requests of our viewers. We use donations to make the most of those open doors God gives us. God has opened many doors in recent years in answer to our daily prayer. Will you help us to do our best in this ministry with your prayers and support? We appreciate you so much! KEEP ME BUSY

All the men in my family for three generations died in their 50’s. I had my 90th birthday last November 19th. Thirty years ago I told my dentist I was going to live to be 100, and I wanted to wear these teeth to my grave. He said doubtfully, “W-e-l-l, we’ll try,” and he went to work. I still have them – some of them – a few of them. When on my birthday I was asked how it felt to be 90, I answered, “It feels a lot like yesterday when I was only 89.”

While this is a “PERSONALLY SPEAKING” column, I never intended for it to be that personal. With me it’s as David said of himself in Psalm 31:8, “You [meaning GOD] have set my feet in a large room.” From my first attempt to preach at age 17, I have been busy preaching. My prayer at age 90 is expressed in the little poem by an unknown poet that says--

Lord, keep me working, keep me fit,

At windows I don’twant to sit,

Watching my fellowmanhurrying by;

Let me stay busy ‘till I die.Grant me the fit, the power,

the will,Some useful niche in life

to fill,This is my prayer as

time goes by --Lord, keep me busy

‘till I die.--Unknown

God bless, I love you

“Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the

saints and seek to show hospitality” (Romans 12:11-13).

With a new year well under way, this is a good time to get excited about the work of the Lord and the preaching of the gospel! “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58). “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work” (John 9:4). What can everyone do to help spread the gospel? We can tell everyone we know by every means we have about the SEARCH program. Word-of-mouth remains the best advertising. Tell a friend, tell a neighbor, tell a co-worker, or tell a classmate. The main thing is to let people know there is a Bible study available to them each week! SEARCH offers everyone an opportunity to spend 30 minutes in Bible study every week. It offers the gospel truth in love. No other television program among churches of Christ reaches so many homes throughout all fifty states and 47 other countries. Wherever it shows, SEARCH becomes a favorite religious program in its time slot.

SEARCH offers correspondence courses, and we have seen baptisms from these courses. SEARCH offers study sheets, and some prisoners in Sallisaw, OK came to the Lord through watching the program and filling in the coordinated study sheets. You can invite your friends to watch SEARCH online 24/7, so that it becomes available whenever and wherever they have an internet connection. We can financially support SEARCH. There is no more efficient way to get the gospel to more people in more places for less cost. Every dollar matters, and the SEARCH ministry needs your monthly support. We can reach the souls of millions with your help. Please be our partners in getting the gospel out to the lost around the world.

Topics subject to change without notice

MARCH 4 - WHERE COULD I GO?The old hymn asks, “Where could I

go but to the Lord?” In a world filled with moral temptation, spiritual struggles, and many social problems, we have no place better to go than to the Lord. The Lord has the answers and the help we need. We must go to Him!

MARCH 11 - I HAVE FAILEDEveryone has known the heartache

of failure at some point in life. But failure should not cause us to separate ourselves from God. Instead our weaknesses and failures should bring us closer to God. What can you do when you have failed?

MARCH 18-WHEN YOUR HEART BREAKS

When our hearts break and tragedy strikes, we desperately need the help of God to comfort and strengthen us. In tragic times, God has not abandoned or forgotten us. God doesn’t take away every pain, but He helps us through it to become better people.

MARCH 25 – THE LORD’S DAYThe Lord’s Day is the first day of the

week, the day early Christians remembered the body and blood of the Lord Jesus by eating the Lord’s Supper. Christians, unlike the Jews, do not observe the Sabbath. They worship on the first day of the week.

The SEARCH staff is encouraged by the response from the Hawaiian Islands and the San Francisco Bay area. As I began writing this article a member of the church in Hayward, CA called to thank IN SEARCH OF THE LORD’S WAY for bringing the program to his area on KOFY, San Francisco television channel 20, each Sunday morning. Also, this morning I received an e-mail from Gary Lyons, a preacher in Hawaii, letting SEARCH know he appreciates being able to see the program every Sunday on KWHE TV 14, broadcast from Honolulu to all the islands in that state. God has truly blessed this ministry in 2011 with growth in outreach and we give HIM all the praise!!

Mack Lyon (Dad) still reminds us often of how and why the program started on one small station, KTEN channel 10, in Ada, OK. The intent was to reach the population in the surrounding counties of central Oklahoma. Now, thirty-two years later, with

the LORD’S help and a hearty staff of less than ten and many volunteers, the program is aired in all 210 television markets in the USA. Also, SEARCH reaches around the globe via internet and international radio and television stations. GOD is so good!!

In the months of February and March the SEARCH booths will be on the road again at Freed-Hardeman University and Faulkner University for the 2012 lectureships. FHU will be from Feb. 5-10 and Faulkner University will be March 5-8. We hope to see you there!

Please continue to remember IN SEARCH OF THE LORD’S WAY in your prayers and thank you for your support through the years…..

In HIM..... Chris Lyon

HURST, TX “Just a word to thank you for your continuing faithful and zealous proclamation of the Word. I do a Paper Pulpit each week with a potential readership of near one million souls. Each week we advertise SEARCH. This has continued now for about 4 years…have spent about $40,000 on this so far. You are in our prayers. God be praised.”

OSAGE CITY, KS “We are so pleased with the SEARCH program. I was shopping in Lowe’s in Topeka, KS. In conversation with another shopper, eventually speaking about religion, I suggested he watch – “Perhaps you could watch the Church of Christ program Sunday morning entitled ‘In Search—‘” and he finished “—of the Lord’s Way. I watch it whenever I can – such good preaching.” Thank you for your wonderful, far-reaching sermons and the singing!”

HANFORD, CA “We are so glad to receive your program in this area on Sunday mornings. (Generous check enclosed.) Hope this will help to keep your messages on the air. We are in need of it in this area so bad.” (Ed. Note: We do not make a practice of mentioning gifts of money enclosed in these letters. However, this message would not have been complete without it. And every letter has a different need of the program. This one is “the need.” The one before is “closed-captioning,” etc.)

MUSKOGEE, OK “ I don’t always get to see your program on TV, but your bulletin you send out is very effective also. Keep up the good work. I feel there is a great need for spreading the gospel.”

FREEPORT, OH “I watch your program frequently. On the Sept. 4 broadcast you replied to a letter concerning baptism. Would you please send me the printed message? Many thanks. I, too, believe in full immersion. At 88 years of age I am semi-retired.” (Note: Signed by a “Rev.”)

CANYON, TX “My husband and I enjoy your lessons on Sunday mornings, and hope we can continue to get them. Thank goodness you do not beg for money from your listening audiences like so many others do!”

RICHMOND, VA “I had been seeing your program for years. I recently moved and the program does not come on the television where I now live. I am hearing impaired and ordered ten of your CD’s. I discussed it being difficult for me to hear some of the programs with a few of my church members. One of them got in touch with Thomas Marshall, our brother who was formerly the preacher (now a member of Edmond Church) with our congregation. With Tom’s help I have received 19 DVD’s. I thoroughly enjoyed the program. To see everybody and also have the closed captioned was a blessing.”
