From there we attended a "spiritual communion" service led by Bishop Curry at the National Cathedral, and finished our Easter celebration by livestreaming Andrea Bocelli's solo performance from Italy's empty Duomo Cathedral in Milan (Okay, André, his organist was there, too). What Andrea said: "I believe in the strength of praying together; I believe in the Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth for everyone-whether they are believers or not-what people truly need right now." So what could have been a grim Easter, turned out to be a deeply spiritual experience. I have to admit, however, that I missed our annual Sunday afternoon trip to the Dam Site Inn for fried chicken! I generally remember no more than two or three words from any sermon, and from Rev. Anne's sermon, the three words were, "Jesus every moment," from David Penniman's sermon, "an angel appeared," and from Bishop Curry's sermon, "It's Easter anyway." So here we are. NEWS FROM OUR SENIOR WARDEN,RANDY EVANS - MAY 2020

Dear Friends,

I'm looking at the hard copy bulletin from our last Sunday together face-to-face-the Second Sunday in Lent, March 8, 2020. So many events have beencancelled since then, and we have had to learn new ways of being.

On Easter Sunday, Denise and I attended EEC's virtual service with Rev.Canon Anne Hallmark, then switched over to hear David Penniman at Churchof the Nativity in Boyne City. From there we attended a "spiritual communion"service led by Bishop Curry at the National Cathedral, and finished our Eastercelebration by livestreaming Andrea Bocelli's solo performance from Italy'sempty Duomo Cathedral in Milan (Okay, André, his organist was there, too). What Andrea said: "I believe in the strength of praying together; I believe inthe Christian Easter, a universal symbol of rebirth for everyone-whether theyare believers or not-what people truly need right now." So what could havebeen a grim Easter, turned out to be a deeply spiritual experience. I have toadmit, however, that I missed our annual Sunday afternoon trip to the DamSite Inn for fried chicken!

love God, love each other, and love the church. We aren't together physically, but we're together anyway.

Thanks to Mark Thomson and the Finance Committee, we are monitoring ourfinances, and so far so good. Thanks to Leah, the administrative functions ofthe church are continuing as usual. Thanks to the New Rector SearchCommittee, our candidates continue to feel appreciated and ready to appearwhen the time is right. Thanks to Fr. Barrie and Vestry your parish continuesto stay together as a community of believers-worshiping, praying, caring foreach other. We are especially thankful for Sharyn Olliffe and Nina Wagar of ourPastoral Care Ministry, who are staying in touch with everyone, and caring forthose in need.

I would like to offer this collect from The Book ofCommon Prayer, 124. I hope it comforts you as it has me:"Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch,or weep this night, and give your angels charge overthose who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest totheweary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity theafflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake."Amen.

May your angels appear, and "walk on, walk on with hopein your heart,"

Randy Evans

what I usually say, but not so much thesedays. If there's a bright side to Covid-19,this is one of them. Many of us are findingmore time to read. I know it's not true for allof you. Those of you who are working fromhome, trying to home school AND keep yourhouse and yard in order, more power to you!I almost hate to say it, but for the Turners, life is pretty normal. Thank goodness forapps on our devices so we are able to keep

in touch. This month, Books and Beyond met using the Houseparty App and itwas nice to connect. There were five of us who were able to join in. It'sexpected that more of you will download the app and be able to join in ournext meeting which is Monday May 11th at 7pm. At this point, we're justconnecting to talk about books in general. What we've been reading. Whatwe'd like to read. How we're getting books into our hands. (If you're like meand like a solid book in your hands.) If you have any questions and don't getthe Books and Beyond email notifications, please contact Nancy Turner [email protected]

During this "pause" the Rector Search Committee has been working "behindthe scenes" as we wait for direction and guidance from our Diocese andGovernor. We are doing everything we can to be ready to meet our candidatesin-person and to participate in a joint interview with our Vestry. Together withthe Vestry we have been developing a set of interview questions, anddiscussing the logistics of how the visits to Emmanuel and the interviewprocess will unfold, once we are given the "go ahead". We continue to stayengaged with our candidates, not only to keep them informed but to inquireabout the health of their families and their congregations.

In the meantime, we are waiting patiently and with great anticipation for theday when we can collectively move forward. Please continue to keep ourcandidates and our Search in your prayers.

As people of God, we need to support one another through these challengingtimes, and in doing so share God's love and compassion.

The Pastoral Care Ministry members have been busy reaching out to everyonein the Emmanuel Directory by phone. We are making sure that everyone isaware of how to see Sunday Prayer Services online on the EmmanuelFacebook page and letting them know about the link on the eecpetoskey.orgwebsite. We are also making sure no one needs assistance monetarily fromthe Parishioners Discretionary Fund, or with groceries or prescription pickup.

What a wonderful way for us all to keep connected to our church family whilewe await the end of the corona virus spread. We have enjoyed catching upwith our year round and seasonal members.

If you are in need or know of someone in need, please reach out to Sharyn at248.909.5862, Nina at 231.881.2630 or Leah in the church office. Leah will bemonitoring calls while the office is closed.

Patience is one of the virtues God has bestowed upon us and we encourageyou to be patient, pray, and keep in your heart that God is with us all.

GRATITUDE

I want to express my immense gratitude to my Emmanuel family for all theirprayers cards and help with everything I was and still in need of due to beingquarantined.

This has been a very scary time in my life that Iam very grateful to still have. I came way too close to losing it. I am still onoxygen at home and can't do very much at atime without getting tired but I'm trying everyday. Again thank you all very much.

Much Love,

Sarah Mosser

SINCERELY GRATEFUL

Kathy and I would like to let everyone in ourEmmanuel Family know how grateful we are forthe outpouring of love and sympathy after thedeath of our brother-in-law, Ed Brehm. The familyis still in shock over this, and we have not beenable to properly gather and mourn, due to the COVID-19 shelter in placeorder. Receiving all of the cards, e-mails, texts, and phone calls was verycomforting, and reminded us of how blessed we are to have so many friendswho care about us.

Thank you again, and please pass this along to everyone at Emmanuel.

Sincerely,

Joe and Kathy Audia
