You may be wondering how an internship could be beneficial to you. According to a 2015 study conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), nearly 71% of responding employers stated that the primary focus of their internship program is to convert students into full-time, entry-level employees. In fact, many companies hire almost exclusively from their intern pool. This same study also found that overall, employers reported the most highly regarded skills for interns are the ability to work in a team, the ability to obtain and process information, organizational and planning skills, verbal communication skills, and decision making/problem-solving skills. So what does that mean for you? It means that by completing an internship, you are not only gaining valuable experience while developing these critical professional skills, but are also getting your foot in the door and paving the way for a potential job offer down the road.
