From the Principal
Hello RAHS Families-
As an important reminder, it is Registration Week at RAHS. Students in grades 9-11 will bereceiving registration and curriculum information during Flex time each day this week. ThisTuesday, from 4-7 p.m. is the RAHS Registration and Curriculum Fair. The event is gearedtowards incoming 9th grade families, but all families are welcome to attend. Please seebelow for more information.
It’s also Charity Week at RAHS! All donations will be given to the Boys and Girls Club of MN. Please consider joining in on any of the Charity Week activities. We’re also accepting directgiving donations throughout the course of the week. Thank you to Student Council for theircoordination and energy of this generous week.
I’d like to commend our students and staff for an extremely positive start at RAHS followingthe winter break. I observe aiming high in terms of their achievement and goals as we moveinto the second half of the school year.

A searchable course description guide is now available from the RAHS website. It includes a list ofclasses being offered next year, a registration timeline, and course planning guidelines by gradelevel. Look for '2017-2018 Registration Informaion' tab under Quick Links from the RAHS website orclick on the button above. RAHS students will complete class registraion for next year's classes thisweek during flex times.

Curriculum Fair Tuesday, Jan. 10 4 - 7 p.m.The RAHS Curriculum Fair is geared toward current 8th graders and their families and is designed toprovide information for course planning and selection for the 2017-2018 school year.Upperclassmen are welcome to attend, especially the 6:15 p.m. presentation about AP, PSEO, andCIS course offerings.
Faculty from each department will be available in the cafeteria and upper gym to answer questionsregarding curriculum and course selection. Click here for the event schedule.
January is AVID Application Month
In January, students can find AVID applications in the AVID Office (A210), the Media Center,Student Support Services or the Multicultural Resource Center. Applications can also bedownloaded from the AVID website. If you have questions, contact the RAHS AVID [email protected] or stop by the AVID table at the Curriculum Fair on Jan. 10. Applicationsare due Jan. 31.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday, Jan. 19RAHS holds conferences in an 'Arena Style.' This means that teachers are seated at tables in thecafteria and upper gym and you can visit with whomever you wish, whenever you wish. Noappoitnments are necessary. Most will be available from 3:30 - 7:30 p.m. Details next week.

Pep Fest!
This school knows how toput on a pep fest! Fridayafternoons event includedacademic and athleticstudent recognition, musicby the pep band, andperformances by students,cheerleaders, Mr. RAHScandidates and the DanceTeam.

Charity Week Events - This WeekFunds raised will support the Boys & Girls Club of MN
Monday: Dodgeball Tournament tonight at 6 p.m.in the lower gym. Lots of staff and studentswalking around today in their pajamas!
Tuesday: Groutfit Day! (wear a grey outfit). Student Council will serve hot chocholate at the mainentrance as buses arrive.
Wednesday: Jersey Day! Mr. RAHS competition at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium, $5.00 ticketdonation requested.
Thursday: Denim Day! Airplane Toss at girls basketball game. 1/2 price admission with food shelfdonation, Chuck-A-Puck at boys hockey game during intermission.
Friday: Mismatch Day! Since when do polka-dots and plaids go together? Today they do!
Debate State QualifiersRAHS qualified the policy team of ZakariyaAbdullahi and Abdullahi Sahal for this weekendsstate tournament at the University of Minnesota. Both of the senior boys qualified in their first yearin debate. In addition, RAHS is sending SophomoreElizabeth Booms in Lincoln Douglas debate. Wewish them luck!

Scholarship Deadlines
Kiwanis Education Foundation – Jan. 11; Kiwanis Golden K - Feb. 10; Roseville CommunityScholarships – Feb. 23; Education MN – March 2; Roseville Vocational – March 16. Additional localand national scholarship information and deadlines can be found in Naviance. For information onwriting scholarship essays, Scholarship Mentor has some great tips.
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, a representative from the U.S. Army will be in the cafeteria during lunchesto meet with interested students.
On Thursday, Jan. 26, from 6:00-8:30 p.m., Dynamy Internship Year and USA Gap Year Fairs will behosting a gap year fair at Groves Academy, St. Louis Park. For additional information, contact Aliaat [email protected] .
The next National Test Date for the ACT is February 11. Registration deadline is January 13.Students can register at actstudent.org . Juniors will be taking the ACT at RAHS on April 19. Inaddition to Naviance Prep test, students can get assistance preparing for the ACT through: SylvanLearning, Kaplan Test Prep or Breakaway Test Prep.
Interested in your student being a part of an international student exchange? ASSE International isaccepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Deadline is March 1. Find more information atASSE Int’l.

MN Golf Card , The RAHS Girl's Golf Team is selling the Minnesota Golf Card for $35.00. Visit http://www.minnesotagolfcard.com to view a golf course list. The card is a buy oneround, get one round free and you can use the card at each course 4 times. There arealso four free rounds of golf at some courses. Make the checks out to: RAHS Girl's Golf andsend to Attn: Korky Heinen at RAHS. Modest swimsuits for high school boys and girls, swimming goggles, caps and beach towelsare needed. The swim suits should be new or nearly new. Donations can be dropped off inthe front office at RAHS. Thank you!

Water Safety Lessons for EnglishLearners
This January and February, the YMCA of Shoreviewwill be partnering with Roseville Area Schools toprovide free water safety lessons to 40 RAHS levelone and two English Learners. Made possible by aRAHS PTSA grant for busing and other essentials,students will receive five water safety and basicswimming lessons in the YMCA pool. The EL programis grateful for this opportunity for our students toget acclimated to the land of 10,000 lakes. Many thanks to the YMCA, RAHS PTSA, and RAHSteacher Kelly Tennison! Free Dental Care
Give Kids a Smile is an annual event that draws together thousands of dental professionals acrossthe state to provide free dental care to low-income children in need. This year’s dates are Friday,Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017. Give Kids a Smile is a program of the Minnesota DentalAssociation. It offers dental care to children ages 3-18 at community-based and private clinics inmany locations throughout the state. Services vary from preventive care, which includes cleanings,

sealants and fluoride treatment, to restorative care, which includes fillings.
All patients must have appointments in advance and be accompanied by a parent or legalguardian. To find a participating clinic in your area, go to https://www.mndental.org/events/give-kids-a-smile/patients/find-a-participating-clinic/
You can call the dental office directly to schedule an appointment. If you need assistance makingan appointment, or translation services call the United Way 211 (just dial 2-1-1) or 800-543-7709.
