The SAVER Committee is working with the Friends of the Reedy River (FoRR) to develop projects to improve stormwater runoff and riparian conditions along the Reedy River and Swamp Rabbit Trail between Woodland Way and East Faris Road. As part of this broader river corridor enhancement effort, two projects are proposed for the FBC property: a stormwater project for improved water quality, and a riparian improvement project. The storm water project involves installing stormwater wetlands and bioswales/rain gardens to alleviate flooding problems and improve water quality runoff from our property before it enters the river. The riparian project involves removing exotic invasive vegetation along the river and replacing with a diversity of native woody species.

FoRR in cooperation with FBC and other partners/supporters has submitted the first grant application for the project. A volunteer day is scheduled through Hands on Greenville for May 3 to begin clearing out exotic invasive vegetation between the trail and river. We expect a large number of volunteers. If you would like to participate, we meet in the lower parking area of the AYMC building at 8 am, working till noon. Lunch is provided. We are also looking for donations of morning refreshments for our volunteers (juice/fruit/muffins). If you plan to volunteer or would like to donate refreshments, please contact Melanie Ruhlman at [email protected], or 270-7629. Stay tuned for updates!

“Thermal cooking” involves bringing food to a boil, simmering it for 5-15 minutes, and placing it & allowing it to continue to cook in an insulated, stand-alone container which acts like a slow cooker yet consumes no energy! Check out the “Wonderbag” at Amazon.com. For each Wonderbag purchased, another is given to a family in Africa. – Chief Luther Standing

A Green Tip from SAVER

First Baptist Greenville needs to expand its list of ushers. Currently there are four small groups of ushers who serve three months a year and a list of substitutes. Ushers arrive shortly before service time, station themselves at entries to the Sanctuary, offer a smile and an order of worship along with any needed assistance. It is a wonderful way to get to know your congregation! If interested, contact Kimberly Coates at [email protected] or by phone at 370-2522 ext. 128.

Usher in a New Experience

The flowers in the Sanctuary are given in loving memory of Max and Nancy Whatley by their children and grandchildren.

Our Sunday worship services are now available to be viewed live from anywhere with a high-speed internet connection. Go to http://new.livestream.com/fbcgreenvillesc. Recent broadcasts are also available.
