Does Cruise In love Alaska? You bet we do. Everyone we send there wants to go back. And everyone who hasn’t been wants to go. That’s why we’re featuring these four cruises on the superb Oceania Regatta. Enjoy total luxury amidst total wildness. Experience total comfort, wonderful cuisine and gracious service among the grandeur of some of the world’s most gorgeous scenery. Just writing about Alaska makes us want to go back! We want to fly out of Ketchikan in a floatplane again. We want to see the Hubbard Glacier again to check it was as toothpaste-blue as memory tells us. By the way, you’ll notice these are shorter itineraries than we usually feature so it’s the perfect opportunity to extend your holiday in the embarkation and disembarkation ports. And what ports they are! You can leave your heart in San Francisco, be sleepless in Seattle, and as for beautiful Vancouver - often known by its nickname ‘Hollywood North’ because of it’s huge film production industry - it is regularly ranked in the top-ten of the world’s most ‘live-able cities’. Alaska on Oceania, a must.Regatta

CRUISE IN'S ELEGANT AFTERNOON TEAS

We had three wonderful days travelling the English and Welsh countryside enjoying pleasant afternoon teas with many friends old and new. Our fi rst journey took us to the G rade II listed boutique hotel, Netherstowe House in Lichfi eld, in the heart of England. The sun shone and we enjoyed a glass of Pimms (or two!) in the private grounds before sitting down to a traditional afternoon tea. Delicate sandwiches. Warm scones with Devonshire cream. A selection of freshly baked cakes. Plenty of English tea. Plenty of ‘cruise’ chat. A great afternoon, with many guests leaving full to the brim, probably thinking no more ‘treats’ for a week. Not us. Next day we were off to the stunning Coombe Abbey country house hotel, in historical Warwickshire. Another fabulous setting. Another chilled glass of Pimms (or two!). Another great afternoon tea. Another Cruise Forum with some fascinating questions and answers. Another few ‘pounds’ gained. It was a privilege to be joined by Cruise In’s pianist, Jonathan Burrows, who entertained us during tea. Our fi nal journey took us to Wales and beautiful Abergavenny. You may be thinking, how could we possibly squeeze in another scone, or drink another pot of tea. Trust us! There was no way we were going to miss the award-winning tea at the Angel Hotel. We’re glad we didn’t. It was fabulous, a tea with a little something extra, delicious ‘Welsh cakes’. Again, music from Jonathan and superb service from the staff. A fantastic three days! Elegant settings, elegant teas and, of course, elegant people! A great chance to meet you all. We look forward to more scones in the future - but not until 2013, late 2013!

On Friday 14th September, as part of National Cruise Week, we held a Cruise Day at Weyhill Craft Fayre, Andover. We were joined by representatives of many of the leading cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Swan Hellenic, Voyages of Discovery and Hurtigruten. It was lovely to meet so many people, so many friends old and new. We’re especially grateful to all those who came many miles to attend. Some people even travelled from Stockton-On-Tees a mere 270 mile trip! Our Cruise Day fi nished at 3pm and the afternoon cream tea began. This kicked off our ‘Elegant Teas’ celebration at various venues around the country, also part of National Cruise Week. Catering for our buffet lunch and tea was provided by Mrs B’s of Frome in Somerset and by 5pm everyone left feeling very full! Thank you Ruth! Thanks also to the Cruise Lines who attended and to Tommy Lees our Cruise In accordionist who entertained us with his music thoughout the afternoon. Last, but not least, to yourselves for coming and taking information with you on the different and diverse cruises available to you from Cruise In.

For a start you’re straight to the sun in just a few hours. You step off that plane and instantly you’re embraced by the warm south. Your holiday starts there and then. If you’re prepared to fly - and we never forget some people love flying - you get longer in the sun, more ships to choose from and a wider choice of itineraries. And you couldn’t choose a better ship to sail on than Celebrity Reflection. She is the newest, the latest, the fifth and final ship in the famous, game-changing, ‘new benchmark’, Solstice Class of ships with which Celebrity stunned the cruise world. In fact, Solstice Class ships are Cruise In’s favourite! How on earth Celebrity Reflection is going to improve on her sister ships we can’t imagine. How can the best get any better? We’ve asked that question before when other Solstice Class ships were launched and

each time Celebrity have unfailingly outdone themselves. And if Celebrity Reflection wasn’t lure enough, just look at these itineraries. They’re brilliant. This is the Med, the classic Mediterranean of holiday dreams, the Mediterranean that a short-haul flight puts at your fingertips in a few hours. This is fly/cruising at its best. And look at the value of these exclusive Cruise In prices! Transfers in Rome are included plus guaranteed direct flights from London Gatwick. Today’s ‘system prices’ - they’re the ones you’ll find online - are up by hundreds of pounds per person on most stateroom grades, particularly balconies! Our advice is, pounce now. A brand new Solstice Class ship and the Med of your dreams, what’s there to possibly regret!

Our family holiday in 2012 was a 12-night Med cruise sailing from Venice to Barcelona in July. In our party were husband Simon, daughter Sian, my mum Carole, and me, Joanne. On our previous four cruises we've sailed from Southampton which, of course, is very easy! But much as we love Southampton, it can't compare to Venice which is where we flew to. Nothing compares to Venice! We stayed overnight in the Plaza Venice hotel, perfectly located opposite the station. In the evening we took a train - a couple of euros each - into St Lucia. We strolled around, had an evening meal and joined the ship the following morning.

It was our first time on a Princess cruise ship and we loved it. Ruby Princess is elegant. As you'd expect, there's lots to do onboard. Loads of activities, various dining choices, quaint boutiques and great entertainment. The International Café is open 24 hours and you can buy mouth-watering treats and gourmet coffees. You can stop for a glass of wine or two - which we did - at Vines, offering complimentary sushi and tapas. We had a nice size stateroom with a large balcony that could comfortably seat four.

The Sanctuary is a relaxing retreat exclusively for adults. The cost is $10 for half a day or $20 for a full day, and there's limited availability on a first-come first-served basis. Speciality dining is a must. The 'Crown Grill' costs $25 per person and the steaks are to die for. There's Gatsby’s Casino if you fancy a flutter. Movies Under the Stars showed a wonderful selection of films: The Artist, Hunger Games, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Wrath of the Titans, This Means War, Man on a Ledge, War Horse.

And the highlights of the cruise? Well, you can't beat sailing though the Grand Canal, with spectacular views from 18 decks high! The movies, the popcorn, ice cream, pizza, cookies, yum yum! And as for the stops, well, where to start?

In Athens we took the local bus to the city centre. It took almost an hour to get to Syntagma Square in the city centre. We then walked for what seemed like forever to find the Acropolis. What with my map reading and directions we found ourselves at the top of a hill, but the wrong hill! We drank a cold beer and discovered the Acropolis was right in front of us, but behind a wall! To reach it involved a steep walk downhill to go uphill! So close but so far!

Joanne and family IN THE MED ON RUBY PRINCESS

Nothing compares to Venice... nothing compares to the Med...

...Joanne and the Civitavecchia statue - Jo knows what you’re thinking - they were pink and lacy!

...the stars on the stairway...

...Joanne and Sian - not 'Barbie', not 'Lady Gaga'...

...Movies Under the Stars...

In Kusadasi we walked around shops bartering for T-shirts.

In Istanbul the shuttle bus, €8, dropped us off at the Grand Bazaar, a huge covered space with over 4000 shops! Sian is blonde. Turkish men harass blondes. They called her Barbie and Lady Gaga. Thanks, guys! At 3pm the heavens opened. The roads were like rivers. The cruise terminal is only 100 yards from the ship. But nobody was going for it until the rain had stopped. That is, no one but Jo-the-Brave, who took off her flip-flops and made a run for it. I had to stop half way through as I couldn’t see out of my glasses! I was a drowned rat by the time I got on the ship.

Mykonos, one of the most idyllic Greek isles, is a tendered stop and we enjoyed the short ride to the harbour. It has lots of picturesque, ever-so-narrow winding streets full of shops and restaurants. We saw the famous giant pelican - the pelican is the island's mascot. We sat in the sun at an outdoor restaurant eating locally caught calamari. Simon and Sian decided to cool down with a dip in the sea before returning to the ship.

In Naples we took a hydrofoil across to Capri - a brilliant, bouncy exhilarating trip, if a bit pricey at €45pp return for a 45-minute ride. Then it was up the funicular to the top of the island, €1.80pp each way. Capri, this tiny exquisite island, has lots of world famous luxury shops full of mouthwatering things. And guess what - Simon had left the credit card onboard ship! Convenient, or what?

We gave Rome a miss because we'd been there last year. Instead, we visited Rome's 'port', Civitavecchia. We took the complimentary shuttle from the ship's berth to the port gates and then followed the coast round to the beaches. There we saw the famous GI 'sailor and nurse' statue. It reminded me of what happens, at home, every morning when I leave to go to work! Again, Simon and Sian went swimming while Mum and I sat on a pebbled beach enjoying the sunshine.

In Livorno Sian, Mum and I did some last minute souvenir shopping. We took an independent shuttle bus into Piazza Grande for €5pp while Simon stayed on board.

Monte Carlo, of course, was gorgeous. In fact our stop there was very short, too short almost. The city is small but hilly. Fine if you're a mountain goat, but tiring if not. The most popular guided city tour is a little train that whisks you round the 'City of Princes'. It costs €8pp for 30 - 40 minutes and shows you all the sights: the Place d’Armes, Port Hercule, Place du Casino, the Old Town, the Prince's Palace and the Cathedral. We walked around the harbour ooh-ing and aah-ing at the luxurious yachts - talk about 'how the other half lives' - poor babies. The world famous Casino was closed otherwise we'd have popped in to use up some of our loose change! Simon and Sian again went for a swim - you can't keep those two out of the water. While they splashed about, Mum and I sat in the sunshine, drinking wine bought from the supermarket - you can't keep us two out of the wine!

Then whizzo! and it was Barcelona and home. Thank you Princess, the ship was wonderful, the weather was wonderful, the holiday was wonderful. It was all wonderful. It was what cruising is all about.

...the team... ...the team spirit...

'...you can't keep those two out of the water...'

...here's to cruising!

...Ruby Princess, starboard side, in port...

...on Mykonos we idly watched an unknown child stalk an unknown pelican...

Well, you do now. And Hurtigruten is an express route to having a wonderful cruise holiday - and at the moment - making the best of an outstandingly good offer. Hurtigruten operate brilliant ‘Norwegian coastal voyages’ - that was the company’s original name by the way. They’ve made the land of the midnight sun and the northern lights, their own. This is their territory, port-to-port calls amid the awesome scenery and the most wonderful fjords on the planet. Their thirteen ships are generally smaller vessels that can reach deeper into the heart of this breathtaking world. Cruise In have always been fans and we’ve sold them since we began in business. In 2013 Hurtigruten will celebrate their 120th anniversary. Whoopee! We love birthdays! And they’re making an offer you shouldn’t miss. They’re offering £120 on board credit on selected Anniversary Chartered flight-inclusive sailings of 12 nights in April, May, September and October 2013. This applies to bookings made by 30 November 2012. There is still some limited availability, so hurry, call us for more details. We’re happy to talk Hurtigruten all day long! Think about it. ‘Ruten’ means route. ‘Hurtig’ means express - like hurtle in English! Hurtigruten! We even talk Norwegian!

did you know hurtigruten means 'express route' in norwegian?

Regards and best wishes from Cliff and the Crew at Cruise In

We spent one eveningin Cirque Dreams, a restaurant which is like a circus big-

top. While you eat you're entertained by jugglers, clowns, acrobats, tightrope walkers and many other wonderful acts. They make your jaw-drop – so be sure your mouth's not full! There's a surcharge for Cirque Dreams and the menus are set with no choice, but we highly recommend anyone to do this

as you'll be talking about it all week.

We were hugely impressed with the Norwegian Epic. She has the most amazing facilities,

breathtaking entertainment, friendly, helpful staff and superb cuisine.

Another memorable show was the Blue Man group. We entered the theatre full of

intrigue and weren't disappointed. A simple but incredible mime show which made all of us leave with big grins on our

faces, definitely not one to miss.

The freestyle restaurants

onboard were all brilliant. The two main restaurants, Taste & Moonlight couldn't be faulted and we never had to wait

long to be seated. The surcharge restaurants offer even more choice: there's a Brazilian steakhouse, a bistro, Italian, Asian and teppanyaki. We ate in the Asian restaurant, Shanghai's, which was amazing. The food was delicious and nothing was

too much trouble.
