Memorial Day weekend marks theopening of most public pools in LeaCounty.
Eunice swimmers can enjoy thecity’s pool beginning today, whileHobbsans must wait until Saturday.
Lovington residents can beginswimming in the public pool Tuesday.
No alcohol or tobacco products areallowed at any public pool.
HobbsHeizer, Humble and Del Norte pools
open Saturday at noon.
Del Norte and Heizer are open sevendays a week from 12-6 p.m., whileHumble is open seven days a weekfrom 12-5 p.m.
The entry fee for Del Norte is $2, and$1 for Heizer and Humble.
City aquatics director BrendaTaylor said Heizer and Humble poolsare still available for after-hours pri-vate party rentals. Del Norte, though,is booked for the summer.
Taylor said all swimmers need towear appropriate attire.

Beginning next month, HobbsPolice Department and LeaCounty Sheriff ’s Departmentemergency dispatchers will beworking in the same room.
Officials are planning to combinethe two dispatching centers June26.
The move marks the beginning ofthe Lea County CommunicationsAuthority, which will eventuallyoperate the consolidatedEmergency Operations Center cur-rently under construction onCollege Lane near LovingtonHighway.
Lea County and the City ofHobbs are partnering to build aconsolidated EmergencyOperations Center to house thedispatchers in northwest Hobbs.
Construction on the $4.5 millionoperations center should be com-pleted early next year.
County commissioners approvedspending about $33,000 to moveequipment from Lovington to theHobbs Police Department dispatchcenter at 301 N. Dalmont.

The first version of the 2011-12 budg-et for Lea County includes only twomajor building projects and both areexpected to be finished early next year.
The $4.5 million EmergencyOperations Center and Public SafetyComplex, located on College Lane nearLovington Highway, will eventuallyhouse Hobbs and county emergencydispatchers.
The $6.1 million Lea County Sheriff ’s
Department is also under construc-tion in Lovington.
Both facilities are the only two build-ing projects in the county’s prelimi-nary $65 million budget.
County commissioners approved thepreliminary budget during Tuesday’smeeting.
The budget will be reviewed by stateofficials at the Department of Financeand Administration.
