Next month the festival will take place for the third year in a row, and we cannot wait to see you there! The 2017 musical lineup has been released and is available at Carolinainthefall.org. Tickets are going fast and if you or someone you know is interested in purchasing tickets, you have a few options: Visit Carolinainthefall.org to buy online, our members can purchase tickets here at our office, or visit the Carolina in the Fall festival office located at 1305 S Collegiate Drive here in Wilkesboro. Remember to bring your current bill in order to receive a discounted price! Stuff The Bus School supply lists and shopping are both a part of the yearly routine, but not all kids have everything they need to be successful this year. For the past 16 years, Communities in Schools has held its annual Stuff the Bus campaign. The campaign is designed to provide essential school supplies for students whose families may not be able to afford them otherwise. There are multiple donation locations, one being the Wilkes Communications headquarters. We welcome the public to bring by items such as paper, writing utensils, backpacks, 3-ring binders, folders, notebooks, glue and more. We look forward to working with Communities in Schools and the Wilkes County community to help our youth this school year! Garlic Chicken Stir-fry

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, divided use

1 cup broccoli florets

1 cup mushrooms, halved

1 yellow bell pepper, cored, seeded and thinly sliced

1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 1 inch pieces

DIRECTIONS

1. Place 1 tsp of oil in a large pan and heat over medium-high heat.

2. Add broccoli, mushroom and bell pepper to the pan. Cook for 5-6 minutes or until vegetables are tender.

3. Transfer vegetables from the pan to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.

4. Wipe the pan clean with a paper towel and place the second tsp of vegetable oil in the pan over high heat.

5. Place chicken in the pan and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side or until chicken is browned and cooked through.

6. Lower heat to medium and add garlic to cook for 30 seconds.

7. Add vegetables back to the pan.

8. In a small bowl, mix together the chicken broth, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil and cornstarch.

9. Pour sauce over chicken mixture and bring to a simmer.

10. Simmer for 1- 2 minutes or until sauce and thickened.

11. Serve with rice if desired.
