For 9 months prior to the games there was

a continuous and sustained stream of negative media coverage.

2010 Commonwealth Games

Delhi India

Just 3 months before the games were due to start… many were

questioning whether they should take place or not.

Headlines included…

“Highway infrastructure in doubt – Highway Bridge collapses” “Delhi Rail Link three months behind schedule and in doubt” “Construction 9 months behind schedule” “Athletes Village is a sewerage strewn dumping site” “Wild dogs roam athletes accommodation”

“National Teams are considering withdrawing on health and safety grounds” “Delegations meet with India Government to express concern” “With just weeks to go to the start of the games crisis talks are underway to avert a disaster” “Flooding affects games preparations”

Our Athletes held their nerve; The Games did take place; They were a success; and

Individual life-long dreams, ambitions and dedication - Triumphed over sustained negativity and doubt!

So what can we learn from our 2010?

Athletics tips for us… • Maintain a sense of purpose and self-worth

• Maintain our passion, drive and determination • Continue to hone our skills - especially digital skills • Strive for excellence and embrace technology fully

• Be bold, courageous and competitive • Build networks and Alliances (Strength in numbers… and

Strength in depth… TEAM)
