Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2018-19 Newman Center

Presents season! Get ready to be wowed

by an all-star season of living legends,

NEA Jazz Masters, MacArthur Fellows,

and inspiring artists making significant

contributions to the performing arts.

World-renowned soprano Kathleen Battle

launches the season, performing a special

concert with University of Denver’s

Spirituals Project choir at the Ellie Caulkins

Opera House. NCP dance presentations

highlight women choreographers

and artist directors this year, with

groundbreaking work by Camille A. Brown,

Jessica Lang, and Michelle Dorrance.

Jazz greats Pat Metheny, Dianne Reeves,

Delfeayo Marsalis, and Vijay Iyer all make

appearances on the season. We also

launch a new series: National Geographic

Live!, featuring photographers, scientists,

and adventurers sharing their stories on

stage with HD photos and videos.

I think you’ll agree that this season

represents our continued goal of

presenting the highest level of artistic

excellence. It’s the deeper work you often

do not see — the artist residencies,

K-12 school programs, and master

classes — that make the Newman Center

a truly distinctive engine for the arts in

Colorado. Your subscription purchases

and contributions enable us to offer

these opportunities.

With new subscription package options

for dance and jazz, this is a season you

can’t miss. Purchase a series to enjoy

great benefits, get access to the best

seats, and be rewarded with moments

of discovery and delight! Thank you

for your continued support of the

Newman Center at DU.

Few events have captured the world’s imagination like NASA’s ongoing Mars Exploration Program. For Kobie Boykins, a mechanical engineer at NASA, the rovers’ success was also a personal triumph: he helped design and build the solar arrays that allowed the rovers to capture samples and photographs that are pushing space exploration forward.
