Relieving Principal

As you read this, I will be on leave. I will be away

during week 5 and in my absence Mandy

Hyeronimus will be relieving as Principal.

New classroom teacher

As a result of the recent Merit Selection process,

Rachael Hooker was successful in gaining the vacant

classroom teacher position at our school. Rachael is

the current teacher on Wattle class and comes with

a wealth of knowledge and experience teaching

students with complex sensory and behaviour

difficulties. She has an excellent ability to

incorporate sensory and art activities into the

curriculum to engage all students.

World Teachers Day

World Teachers Day was celebrated on 25th October. A

big thank you to the P&C for your thoughtfulness in

recognising the work of our teachers by providing

morning tea for all staff. It’s nice to know that the

important role we play in shaping the next generation is

appreciated and valued. There are more than 160,000

teachers in New South Wales, teaching over 810,000

students in 2,200 New South Wales government schools.

This is the largest education system in Australia.

New classes in 2020

The Department will be establishing four new classes on

our site in 2020, with the intended start date of day 1,

term 1. The demountable buildings will be situated in

the back grassed area facing the Middle School

playground. This will take our class numbers to 17 and

approximate student numbers to between 110 and 120

(a very rough guess). With these new classes comes four

teacher and four SLSO positions, an increase in School

Administrative Officer hours, a General Assistant for five

days per week and a Deputy Principal

Principal’s Post

Schoolzine on line newsletter

The school has recently subscribed to an online

newsletter platform called Schoolzine. We intend to

make this available to all families from the first

newsletter in 2020. Please watch out for more

information about this as we try to move away from

paper newsletters.

Roof Restoration

The Department is undertaking a significant amount

of work over the coming weeks to repair water

damage in a large section of our roof. Work will

happen on the roof over Wattle and Waratah

classes and the adjoining bathroom and kitchen, on

the roof of the administration and office block, the

internal corridor from Waratah room to the front

foyer, over the internal foyer and void, over the

external void (parent pick up area), the staffroom,

library and P&C rooms.

While work is planned to be done in stages, to

minimise disruption to school routines, there will

still need to be changes made to accommodate the

work. Please be patient with us, as we do not know

at exactly what time each section will be worked on.

The major disruption to families will be when the

offices and administration areas are repaired as we

may have to relocate for a short period.

School Administration Staff Changes

In term 4 Carla accepted a temporary position as

School Administrative Manager at Bateman’s Bay

Public School. We welcome Therese as she joins our

administration staff three days per week. In the office

we now have Mel (School Administrative Manager),

Carol (School Administrative Officer) and Therese

(School Administrative Officer). Please contact the

office staff if you have any questions or need to pass

information about your child onto the school.

New South Wales Primary Principals Association

Annual Conference

Last week I was fortunate to have the opportunity to

attend the New South Wales Primary Principals

Association Annual Conference, with over 620

Principal colleagues from across the state. The theme

of the conference was “Building Us”. The vision of the

conference was to lead, support, advocate for, and

empower leaders to enable student success. During

the three day conference we had the opportunity to

listen to some remarkable men and women including

Julie Bishop (former Foreign Minister), Dylan Alcott

(wheelchair athlete and Paralympian gold medallist),

Emma Alberici (journalist) and Gill Hicks (survivor of

the London bombings). These speakers were able to

inspire us with their own stories of overcoming

adversity and tragedy.
