Fall Draft Test Saturday November 19, 2016 President's Message NCNC members and their dogs have been very busy this past month. In the conformation ring, Austin (Kevin & Laura Gallagher) had multiple Best of Breeds and multiple Group placements; MacKenzie (Patrick Benshoof & Lisa Lee) had multiple Owner Handled Group placements; and Falcon (Tanya Hill) also had a Best of Breed. In recent water tests, Malia (Jerry & Cathy Sayre) earned a Water Rescue Dog (WRD) title at the NCSC water test. Congratulations to all! By the time you read this, the 2016 Regional Specialty (Friday, October 28 at Dixon) will be history. Watch the Newfs Paper for results. We are now into Draft Test season. The Fall NCNC Draft Test at Auburn is scheduled for November 19, 2016. The premium list is available on the NCNC website (Upcoming Events). like to help. Also, we will soon be hosting monthlycarting seminars January through March. Theseannual seminars are a great place to start beginnerdogs or practice experienced dogs through a mockcourse. The January Carting Seminar is scheduledfor Saturday, January 28, 2017 (weather permitting) inWalnut Creek. Watch the Newfs Paper and the websitefor more information and entry flier. NCNC will not havea Spring Draft Test this year, but there will be a drafttest at the National Specialty in Oregon. (See morebelow.) The last club meeting of 2016 will be the annualholiday party on Saturday, December 10, at the homeof Laura & Kevin Gallagher in Vacaville. As always, I’msure there will be plenty of great food & deserts andcomradery. Also, each person who brings a wrappedgift can participate in the very popular gift exchange andthievery. Please mark your calendar and plan to attendthis festive event. Anyone interested in working dog activities is welcometo participate in the annual Working Dog Committeeplanning meeting. This year it will be held at the homeof Cherrie and Steve Brown in Vacaville on Saturdaymorning, December 31, 2016. It starts with a pot-luckbreakfast, which is always a treat. Then, we will decideworking dog activities, locations, judges, chairpersons,etc. for the next year. This is your chance to influencethe working dog schedule, so bring your suggestionsand ideas. Preparations and planning are well under way for the2017 NCA National Specialty, which will be held at theSalishan Spa and Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach onthe Oregon coast. Co-Chair Kevin Gallagher gave usan update at the August club meeting. (See the meetingminutes in the NCNC Newfs Paper.) Also, a website isavailable for the 2017 show -- You can access itthrough the National Specialty Information link on theNCA website. Information will be added to the websiteregularly. You can also sign up for e-mail notices asnew information becomes available. The show willinclude sweepstakes, conformation, obedience, a drafttest, and many other activities. A new event will beoffered in 2017, the Iron Dog competition whichincludes exercises from obedience, draft and waterwork. I am hearing a lot of excitement about this newevent from folks locally and in other areas of thecountry. Check the website for details. If you areinterested in helping with the show, please contactKevin.
We are still looking for a new home for various propsand decorations which are used each year at theGolden Gate KC benched show. This show is animportant opportunity for our club to educate the publicabout Newfs. Setting up an impressive bench areahelps to present us well. Luise Parsons Award
The NCNC Board solicits nominations for the club’s Luise Parsons award.The award does not need to be given annually, but if there is a member
who fits the criteria, it would be given during our annual meeting/banquetbeing held February 25, 2017. Please send your nominations to John
Pearson ([email protected]) or to any of the other Board members, sothat the Board can begin the process of selecting the next awardee.
Include the name of the person nominated, and a description of why thatperson meets the award criteria. The criteria for the Luise Parsons Award
are best described in a message from Pam Rubio, below.Lifelong dedication to the breed/club who has provided dedicated service
and contribution (over an extended period of time) to NCNC. The awardshould be given to a member who personifies all the great qualities and
contributions that Luise set forth as an example:“I am sure all of us have Luise stories to tell that exemplify her generosityto both the club, the breed, or us personally. I will start by telling you thatevery year that I have been trophy chair for the regional, Luise sent me acheck for $100 to be used wherever needed. I know there are many otherinstances that I am not aware of, where she stepped in to intervene for a
dog in a shelter, rescue or to help in any way she could. When Autumn washere for whelping, she came at least once a week, and always brought food
for lunch/dinner, whatever. She often volunteered to do lunches forworking events, when no other volunteers could be found. The award
should be given to the member who truly exemplifies those qualities thatwe so loved and valued in Luise.”
